  • Fantastic Experience -- Stunning Views

"My boyfriend and I just returned from a fabulous and extremely relaxing four-day getaway to Minocqua! We absolutely LOVED this home. The location was fantastic -- it was minutes from Woodruff/Minocqua. It was right on a beautiful lake -- seriously, just a few steps to the dock and water. The interior of the property was perfect -- rustic but spacious. There was an open floor plan with new appliances in the kitchen and comfortable furniture in the living room. The bathroom was spacious and modern, and the bedroom featured a large closet, dresser and queen size bed. There were two televisions (with cable) mounted to the walls (living room and bedroom) and easy access to wi-fi. The kitchen came equipped with plenty of seasonings, flatware, glassware, dishware and cookware. There were even fixings for s'mores in one of the cabinets! They had several games and lots of decks of cards for our use, plus there were life jackets and fishing poles right on our part of the property. There was a great fire pit with plenty of seating in the yard. I brought my pudgie pie maker, but they provided the marshmallow/hot dog forks. There was also a swinging bench, a hammock and a pier with a bench for swimming. We took their paddle boat out for a spin on the beautiful lake surrounding their property. Best of all, there was a small gas grill directly on our patio for us to use to cook out -- which we did for almost all of our meals! It was such a peaceful, beautiful property, and we most definitely plan to return for an even longer stay next summer!"

  • Unforgettable vacation

"This home is luxurious and spacious. Right on the lake and swimming off the dock is great. No weeds and sandy bottom. Shallow enough even for small children to enjoy with no problems. The house is fantastic. Makes you feel right at home. Location is great, too. A short drive will get you anywhere around Minocqua that you would want to go. All in all I would recommend this cabin and would definitely stay here again."

  • A great place to stay.

"Stayed a week at the cabin with my wife and daughter. Had a great time. Nice cabin, very clean and had everything you need. Saw lots of deer. Even had a doe with her two fawns at the property. Steve and Susan are very nice and extremely helpful with places to see and fishing tips."

  • Great week - GREAT vacation spot!!!

"Oh, where to begin. We have been to the Arbor Vitae/Boulder Junction/Minocqua area over 40 times in the past 20 years. We stayed at Jim's Hideaway one time several years ago in fall, and loved it. This was our first time in summer at this locale, and first time with a WHOLE extended family. 2 senior citizens, 4 middle aged folks, three teens and a dog. PROS: Where to begin? -Five LARGE bedrooms on three levels led to more than adequate privacy. -The house is not a "cottage". It is a HOUSE. An executive, well built, well maintained, well stacked house. This is unusual for rentals in the northwoods. -The amenities are FANTASTIC. Washer/dryer is always welcome with sand and swim. The included firewood (all split nicely) saved us a small fortune. The beds are COMFY and sheets/towels/comforters are more hotel quality than "cabin-esque". -The "toys" that are included (rowboats, paddle boats, canoe, life preservers) saved us on boat rentals. If we wanted a pontoon, the owners had an inexpensive option for renting. -The beach is GREAT for kids and adults alike. -The fire pit area is private and large. -The place is dog friendly, but does not smell "doggy" like most rentals. Additionally, it is not furnished like most places that allow dogs either. NICE! -The PRIVACY of this place is unparalleled. Most large rentals are stuffed on smaller lots that used to house small cottages. Not this place. The land that Lake Rest Cabins has is amazing. Never once did we hear the neighbors, and I doubt they heard us. At night all we hears was loons and owls. -Finally, the location. Oh, the location! So close to Minocqua that you can run to the grocery store daily, get a MKE Journal right down the road, bike paths, other lakes and golf is close, shopping is close. A great supper club is down the road. CONS: I truly cannot think of one. The weather was iffy, but it is Wisconsin. That happens. Literally not one thing I would change. For the money, this place is MAGIC for families, couples or simply friends that want privacy, north woods and do not want to feel like they stayed in a "cottage". This beautiful home is perfect. Would stay again if we needed a larger place in a minute. The owners do a GREAT job in maintaining and scheduling the property. Check in/out works like clockwork. We were advised of total bill the minute we booked, and had ample time to pay. P.S. We have also stayed in their other 2 cabins - ALL VERY NICE!!!"

Minocqua Travel Tips

Minocqua Vacation Rentals in the Pines

Although another state lays claim to having thousands of lakes, Wisconsin is not far behind. Choosing to relax in Minocqua vacation rentals could find you on Blue Lake, Lake Catherine, Shishebogama Lake or private Mercer Lake. These VRBO homes feature the amenities that you would find in your own home, probably because they are privately owned homes. The owners open up their doors to you by offering spacious living areas, plush beds, fully equipped kitchens and private docks or wrap-around porches where you can enjoy the outdoor life. Imagine having a leisurely breakfast on your deck watching the birds on the water or a deer munching on the greenery. This idyllic setting could be yours when you choose a wonderful vacation rental in Minocqua.

Finding Your way to Minocqua Cabins

There are three airports that can get you to Minocqua, Wisconsin. Because none of them are particularly close, you will need to rent a car or plan to drive on your vacation. If you choose to fly into Milwaukee or Madison, you want to take I-94 and then go north on I-39. When I-39 ends, you will continue on Highway 51 to Minocqua which lies in the northeast quadrant of Wisconsin. The autumn colors make the drive spectacular and there are still plenty of things to do at that time of year.

Entertainment at Minocqua Lodging

If you are lucky enough to select a Minocqua house on a lake, you could find yourself swimming, boating, fishing or lounging in a hammock on the deck. This is by no means the only form of entertainment that is available to guests of Minocqua lodging. In the wintertime, guests can relax by the fire in their vacation house after a day of cross country skiing or snowmobiling at nearby Minocqua Winter Park. They offer more than 75 miles of groomed trails just perfect for any cross country ski adventure. You can fix a lunch for the family at your Minocqua cabins and eat out on the trail.

Looking for a little wildlife adventure on your vacation? Then direct your vehicle to Wildwood Wildlife Park and Nature Center. This 25-acre park has over 700 birds, mammals, and reptiles for the visitors to enjoy. For those brave enough to try it, they can pet a porcupine, skunk, woodchuck, tortoise and other animals. Nature programs are offered on a daily basis as are boat rides, a safari train ride, and fishing for trout. Catch your dinner then bring it back to your vacation home’s BBQ grill. Food is available at the park if you do not want to pack a picnic.

Evening entertainment is just about 10 miles away at the Northern Lights Playhouse. There are performances nightly from Memorial Day weekend through mid-September of everything from Broadway musicals to comedy reviews. If you are interested in visiting more than one state on your vacation, your family could take a side trip into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. You can dip your toes into Lake Superior from Wisconsin or Michigan.

Sweet Treats and Dining Options Near Minocqua Lake Houses

North woods dining is hearty fare that relies on home0cooked comfort foods that we all love. Whether you want a quiet casual restaurant such as Albee’s Yacht Club Bar & Grill with great views of Lake Minocqua or fast food like Arby’s so you can get back to playing, you can have it. Have a sweet tooth? Check out the enticing fresh baked goods at Ella’s Family Restaurant or the gourmet popcorn you can enjoy before a roaring fire or backyard fire pit. Flavors like melted cheddar cheese, kettle corn, caramel corn or the spicier jalapeno popcorn will enhance your experience at your Minocqua lake home rental. Cooking at your vacation home is wonderful but you would not want to miss out on some of the region’s best cuisine. Ask your VRBO owner for some of their favorite dining establishments.
