  • A good place to stay

"Our family stayed at Riegel Bay Cottage this past summer. It was a very nice cottage. Like the previous reviewer stated; it is a true cottage experience. Our family enjoyed fishing off of the pier; every evening our 14 year old son caught at least 6-8 good sized bass. Paddle boating was fun for the kids. The entire family enjoyed a couple of canoe trips up and down the shore. The house itself wasn't lacking anything. There was no tv, telephone. But that was fine with us, wireless internet was available if someone really wants to be connected to the rest of the world. St. Croix Falls was just a hop, skip, and a jump for any necessary groceries or forgotten items. Not a ton of restaurants in the area, but we did enjoy Loggers a couple of times and found a pretty good pizza place. The only disappointment to our family was the swimming. Yes, the house is right on the lake, yes the lake water is very clean, and yes there was a swimming raft, but there were just too many weeds for our preference. Didn't care for the way they would wrap around our legs and ankles when swimming. We got around that though by heading to the nearby 'Interstate Park' a couple of different days for swimming and hiking. The park had a wonderful sandy beach and very clean, weed free lake for swimming. You did need to buy a state park sticker though. Overall, we would recommend staying at Riegel Bay Cottage, our family was sad to leave when the week was up."

  • Great week in the autumn north woods!

"Our family of 6 adults met up from 3 different states here in Wisconsin after finding the Flying Moose cabin online. We really weren't sure what to expect, but were very pleasantly surprised. We thoroughly enjoyed all the inside and outside activity options. We like quiet boating so we used the canoe, rowboat and paddle boat every day, but then rented a pontoon boat from the Mystic Moose for one day just to see more of the lake and try some different fishing spots. We spent 2 half days in Hayward and fell in love with the charming businesses on the side streets. We loved Wests Dairy, Tremblay's Olde Tyme Candy store, Hayward Bakery & Cheese store, Sophie's Dog Bakery, & Itasca Leathergoods. We must have walked almost every mile of the walking/hiking trails across the street from the cabin because our sons' 2 dogs loved them so much! We used the fire pit down near the water almost every night. We saw several bald eagles, one being in the pine tree right on the property! Mike, the owner was very easy to work with and make the whole experience simple for us. We would definitely recommend this rental to folks who like privacy and outdoor space. It's at least 30 minutes from the town of Hayward so preplanning grocery store trips is helpful."

  • Wonderful experience!

"We had a wonderful week at this vacation property. We stayed here July 31- August 7, 2010. The days were warm, but the nights cooled off nicely. The fishing was good, but majority of the bass were under legal size. It was still fun to catch them though. The house is really nice. It has everything you could possibly need or want. All of the deck space was really nice. Plenty of outside seating for quite a few people, plus there are extra folding chairs on the inside upstairs balcony that can be brought outside. Watching the hummingbirds out of the kitchen window was quite entertaining (our 16 year old son even enjoyed it!). Our experience here was wonderful & we will be back next year. This property is like a little slice of heaven on earth. One more thing-the back yard is BEAUTIFUL! Very well maintained & lots of room or play or just wander. Thanks for a great week!"

  • Perfect Get Away!

"We just stayed at this home with family and friends and created some wonderful memories! We loved the home and it fit our group's needs perfectly. The home is well maintained and decorated very nicely with a Northwoods/homey feeling. We enjoyed fishing on Grindstone Lake and caught a variety of fish! The inclusion of the boat lift was ideal for us and we liked the fact that Hayward was only 10-15 minutes away! We are hoping to return to this home next summer!"
