"Definitely consider this property for your vacation hangout. The first time I stayed at this property (which is a beautiful lake home) was in 2009 and I was pleased to see it continues to offer all the conveniences of home, is still a very clean property and is a quiet location for fishing, sleeping, walking, biking, etc. The owners are wonderful, they are very friendly, kind and helpful. The weather this year was unpredictable but regardless, the time away and in such a great spot (Hayward on the lake) made the experience priceless."

  • Thankgiving Getaway

"I am writing our review on behalf of the entire group who stayed at Lion Downe Cottage. Over the past couple years we have rented lake homes large enough to comfortable accommodate our family for Thanksgiving. We wanted to rent this property last year but it books fast and now we know why. I am an admirer of log homes and this one definitely tickled my senses. The cottage is awe-inspiring and I found myself constantly staring at the tall, vaulted ceilings and exposed log framework. Even the stair treads are constructed of half-round timbers. As many have commented, the massive stone fireplace is simply stunning. The panoramic view of Lake Pepin are just awesome. The home was very well thought out with respect to design and function. The openness of the main floor allows everyone to be connected. One drawback for us was the sleeping quarters are also very open to the main level which prevented us “light sleepers” reprieve from the “heavy snorers”. My wife and I took refuge the closet/pocket bed on the upper level overlooking the great room and shut the doors on our second night’s stay. The other drawback for us was the long pathway from the parking lot to the cottage. I found it to be very neat and kept the structure away from automobiles. However, two people in our group require the use of walkers to get around. It had lightly snowed upon our arrival and at our departure which made it slippery. If you plan to bring people who have a hard time walking any distance you may want to bring a wheelchair or some other means to transport your guests from their vehicles to the cottage. Overall, we had a wonderful time and the property exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get away and spend some quality time with friends & family."
