  • Lovely fall getaway

"This cottage was a great spot for a long fall weekend. Rustic enough to feel like a real cottage, but with all the comforts of home and obviously very well cared-for. The owners are right next door and friendly and available but never intrusive. We liked being on the lake but still having convenient access to shopping in town just a few miles away. Our stay was too short to do many of the nearby activities, but we had a lot of fun just hanging out on the dock enjoying the lake. We got to see an eagle soaring over the lake and a loon diving for fish, and we also took a lovely walk up the road to enjoy the fall colors and perfect weather. Our kids are already begging to come back for a whole week in the summer!"

  • A good place to stay

"Our family stayed at Riegel Bay Cottage this past summer. It was a very nice cottage. Like the previous reviewer stated; it is a true cottage experience. Our family enjoyed fishing off of the pier; every evening our 14 year old son caught at least 6-8 good sized bass. Paddle boating was fun for the kids. The entire family enjoyed a couple of canoe trips up and down the shore. The house itself wasn't lacking anything. There was no tv, telephone. But that was fine with us, wireless internet was available if someone really wants to be connected to the rest of the world. St. Croix Falls was just a hop, skip, and a jump for any necessary groceries or forgotten items. Not a ton of restaurants in the area, but we did enjoy Loggers a couple of times and found a pretty good pizza place. The only disappointment to our family was the swimming. Yes, the house is right on the lake, yes the lake water is very clean, and yes there was a swimming raft, but there were just too many weeds for our preference. Didn't care for the way they would wrap around our legs and ankles when swimming. We got around that though by heading to the nearby 'Interstate Park' a couple of different days for swimming and hiking. The park had a wonderful sandy beach and very clean, weed free lake for swimming. You did need to buy a state park sticker though. Overall, we would recommend staying at Riegel Bay Cottage, our family was sad to leave when the week was up."

  • Our Cabin Vacation

"My Family just spent an enjoyable week at Nan Riegel’s family cottage on Deer Lake 5 miles from St. Croix Falls, WI. We could not ask for anything more.* Although you would not call the location remote, it felt that way with woods between the cabin and the distant neighbors. Grocery shopping was a convenient short drive toward St. Croix Falls. We had our own canoes, kayaks (spent a day on the St. Croix River) and a small sailboat so we did not use the furnished canoes and row boat; however, the pontoon paddle boat (seats four) was a good change of pace. The cottage is full of the Riegel’s family history and we thank them for sharing it with us. *The down side. I missed a good reading light in the great room, and although we saw loons we never heard their call."
