  • Girls weekend retreat.

"Wow! Wow! Wow! Such a great place. The kitchen is fantastic. We love to cook on our girl's weekends and we had everything we needed. The place is immaculate and the view is spectacular. We had a great weekend stopping at wineries along the Great River Road Wine Trail."

  • Comfortable spacious cabin in a peaceful setting

"We rented this cabin for a quick reunion among young families. We found it to be the perfect place to unplug from our devices. Our nature-loving kids had a blast running around the spacious yard, exploring Sugar Creek and trying out the refreshing spring-fed swimming hole out back. The adults had fun grilling each night and the kids enjoyed roasting marshmallows for S'Mores in the fire pit. In the morning we got our exercise by walking up the road to the top of the mountain…what a view!! As we were only there for a short weekend, we didn't get to try out biking or canoeing but I could certainly see that it would be a blast. The house was wonderfully appointed with all the utensils, pots and pans we needed, including a working coffee maker! The large kitchen with generous island was a pleasure to cook in. There were plenty of comfortable beds for our crew along with all the blankets we needed. The kids enjoyed unwinding to Disney movies in the basement at the end of each night, what a great collection! The owner was wonderful to work with and very prompt in seeing to any detail. Thanks again for opening your warm and inviting home to us!"

  • Just right.

"My husband and I spent 4 nights in this charming house in Ferryville. We chose this place as it close to where I grew up and was centrally located to visiting friends, family and old neighbors. It was just the right size for two of us, but 2 more couples could have joined easily. We had plenty of space for visiting friends and while we didn't cook in the kitchen, it was well-equipped. I highly suggest a morning walk down to the Swing Inn for the local breakfast. Deb makes it easy to come and go. Can't wait to return."

  • Absolutely Beautiful - Can't Wait to Return!

"We were absolutely delighted with our stay at Sunset Lodge. It is a terrific vacation rental, and well maintained. The location is fabulous - it isn't "in town," so we felt very much at peace and surrounded by a lovely natural setting. It isn't terribly remote, either, so we had ease access to local amenities, including shopping, movies, etc. It's extremely close to LaCrosse, and not far from Prairie du Chien or Winona (MN), all of which we visited with ease. During our stay, we enjoyed an extremely picturesque drive to Viroqua for the farmer's market and some shopping. We had a great (and huge!) meal at the Great River Roadhouse (just down the road in DeSoto). The kitchen is great - on the small side, but manageable, and open to the dining and great room area, so we could all talk while we cooked. Be aware that the stove is apartment-sized, so don't try to do a giant roaster full of turkey or anything. For our group, it was just right. The layout is at once inviting for groups and comfortable for those who want some privacy. The sleeping areas are all very nice, and make good "retreat" points to get away from the rest of your crowd. The great room (and deck) is terrific for games, conversations, and group activities. Be aware that you will climb stairs in this house. You enter in the "basement" area, which has a family room space and bedroom and bath area. You must climb a full flight of stairs to get to the kitchen, great room, deck, dining room, and two of the bedrooms (and one bath). The master suite is yet another flight of stairs up from there (with it's own bath). This wasn't really a problem for our group - we had one gal recovering from knee surgery, but she managed by planning her "up and down" trips and keeping them to a minimum. This would not be a good choice, however, for persons who simply cannot do stairs - it would likely be frustrating. YES, the train tracks go by the Lodge. If you require absolute silence, you won't like it (but, really, what *will* you like??). We LOVED the trains. They don't blow horns (no crossing), so you just hear the low rumble of them moving past. YES, the highway goes by the Lodge (at the foot of the hill). We barely noticed it. Perhaps the best idea I can give of how fantastic this place is, however, is to note that, before we'd even gone to bed the first night, we all said "Okay, so, next year, when we come back here..." and were making plans for our next trip to the Lodge."
