The best way to access southwest Wisconsin is by road. The area has good road links with the rest of Wisconsin as well as the neighboring states of Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota. By road, it is approximately an hour's drive from the cities of Wisconsin Dells, Dubuque and Madison. The nearest major regional airport is located in Madison. Alternatively, you can also fly into Milwaukee which is just a two-hour drive away. If you cannot find a direct flight into either Madison or Milwaukee, then you may consider flying into Chicago in the neighboring state of Illinois. Even from there is it not a far drive to southwest Wisconsin. It only takes about three hours by road. If you are flying in from other destinations, you will need to hire a car to get to your vacation destination. There are several reputable rental firms located at the airports. If you are traveling in peak season, it is advisable to reserve your rental car in advance.
