  • Fantastic Bachelor Party

"I spent weeks on VRBO looking for the right place for this event. Finally settled on this house, deciding it was the best place in Palm Springs - it did not disappoint. First off, it's better than it looks in the pictures - the house is truly luxuriously furnished and totally spotless - think plush, five-star boutique hotel. Great attention to detail on every architectural element and object. Prior to this place, I looked into booking two suites in a nice hotel for about the same price. Why do that when you can get an entire, enormous house with a private pool?! One advantage not mentioned in other reviews is the layout - it's perfect for involving everyone in any sort of leisure/entertainment activity. Because the open kitchen, living room and pool are "aligned" in the same area, anyone cooking can easily watch a movie with people on the couches, who can at the same time converse with people out on the spacious patio and in the pool (through the beautiful disappearing wall). The bedrooms are spread out enough to ensure anyone who decides to stay up late won't bother people sleeping elsewhere. Also the various technologies featured in the house (temperature, pool heat, lights, fountains, etc) are all very easily controlled from a central panel. On top of all this, the owner, Ash, and his assistant, Silverio, are a joy to deal with. They were responsive and very flexible in making the arrangements. It really felt like I was renting a house from a friend rather than paying a faceless corporation (which some of my other VRBO interaction have been like). I even ended up leaving a valuable at the house on accident, and as soon as they found it, Ash went out of his way to contact me and figure out how to get the item to me as fast as possible. (Thanks again!) I could not recommend this place more for an opulent, relaxing retreat in the desert."

  • Perfect home base for exploring Leelanau Peninsula!

"We are originally from Michigan and love Northport so we were excited to find this property and kick off our summer Pure Michigan style! An easy (5min) walk to shops, restaurants and the marina/beach in Northport, Heron Cottage is a perfect home base for exploring Leelanau Peninsula. The layout of the cottage was great for our party of two adults, two teens and two (big) dogs. The kids had the run of the first floor while Dad and I could retire upstairs. The full kitchen was well stocked with nearly everything you might need. The spacious yard and proximity to the water was a hit with the dogs. There was something for everyone while staying at Heron Cottage. Dad and I enjoyed doing wine tours, listening to live music in the park, and getting up early for coffee and Barb's cinnamon twists. The kids enjoyed the freedom of walking around town, shopping, Knot Just a Bar, Tucker's and of course, were very happy that there was wifi at Heron. Visiting Sleep Bear Dunes, lighthouses and parks made great day trips. If you don't mind getting a little off the beaten path, try to make it to Fischer's Happy Hour--especially on Saturday for the bean soup. Have dessert there for sure. A few notes: Unlike many of the other VRBO's I looked at, Heron Cottage provides linens, towels and bedding at no additional charge (and it may well be nicer than anything you have at home!). All you need to bring are beach towels. If you have small kids, there are no bathtubs, just showers. Fine for us, but perhaps worth noting. If you do have dogs, note that this is not a fenced yard so you'll want to keep your dogs on leash if they do not have good recall. Northport is very dog friendly though. You can have your pups with you while dining outside at many of the restaurants. If you have a member of your party in a wheel chair or who is using a walker, this probably wouldn't be a good fit with the stairs, compact layout and throw rugs. Owner was very easy to work with, property was represented accurately, and we'd definitely recommend Heron Cottage to our friends and family (but not before reserving our next visit!) I can't say enough good things about our stay. Met other people in Northport who had friends/family that had stayed at Heron as well and they said similar. Great spot, great value."
