"This was the first time we stayed in Carpinteria. Before booking, we checked all of the available condominium rentals in this town. We chose Sunset Shores, and specifically this unit, because of the proximity to everything. It is true that this property is not truly "oceanfront" since it sits 1/2 a block back from the beach, but trust me, it is plenty close. You literally walk down the stairs and cross the street. Your toes could be in the sand in less than 60 seconds from the time you leave your front door. Most of the complexes in this town are older, so we were expecting the unit to feel a little worn out. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find the kitchen had gone through a top-notch remodel. Sub-zero fridge, Bosch dishwasher, granite counter tops, new cabinetry (alder?). We were a family of 5 and the twin beds in the guest room were appreciated. The bathroom has new tile throughout and a great shower. (No bathtub, but our kids our older, so that didn't matter to us.) The complex is very meticulously maintained. The pool was heated and their is a hot tub. (Note: the property across the street and "on" the beach does not have a pool.) There are lots of patio tables and chairs throughout so that you can enjoy the outdoors. This unit does not have a private balcony, but there is a large patio area right outside the front door that was rarely used by anyone other than us. The view of the beach is fabulous from there. The management team of the property were great to work with us. We were arriving late and they arranged everything perfectly! This property is right on the corner of Linden, which is the main street of the town. We walked to the Vons grocery store numerous times, no problem. Lots of restaurants within walking distance as well. If we had not wanted to visit Santa Barbara, Solvang, the Reagan Library, etc., I think we could have done without a car. VERY bicycle friendly town. Rent bikes if you can to see the seal rookery and the tar pits on the beach, those are longer walks than I had anticipated. We did it, but the kids were worn out by the end. My husband and older boy walked the beach to/from the Padaro Grill area (Santa Claus Lane). They said there is a stream to cross, but at low tide, the water was below their knees. We especially loved our Sunday lunch at Cielo's (on Carpinteria Ave), Rick Reeves was playing and singing and it was AWESOME! Wish we lived closer so that we could hear him again."
