"The unit was nice, had a great view of the ocean and was as described in the listing. Kitchen was well stocked, including a washer/dryer, overall satisfactory. Did not take advantage of the beach chairs, umbrella, etc but nice that they were available. Living room had clean and comfortable sofa/loveseat and large flatscreen TV with cable and WIFI. Master bedroom had a comfortable King bed with memory foam topper (did not use the second bedroom, but it contained 2 twin beds and had a window that faced the street, unlike the Master which has patio doors opening onto the balcony). The building is very quiet, all units face the ocean, all have screened balconies, plenty of parking. Pool was nice, community room had book exchange shelves (good place to borrow a book or leave yours behind). There was also a rec room with a ping pong table. The beach is extremely wide at this southern tip of the island, check it out using google aerial view. Due to this along with the calmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico, you will not hear waves crashing on the sand as you will along the Atlantic or Pacific coasts. This was a slow week on the island (week before Christmas week), not many tourists and the snowbirds had not yet arrived. Driving to the tourist spots on the north end was uncongested (unlike high season). Found the island library where we could print off our boarding passes for the flight home (only 10 cents per sheet). The Publix grocery store is only 3 miles north or you will pass a couple others along Bonita Beach Drive on your way from the airport (be sure to use the southern approach instructions provided by the property manager). Preferred this south end of the island due to much quieter than the north end easier access to the airport, close proximity to Lovers Key state park (you can walk there from the condo, only half mile, $2 per person entrance fee). Easy drive a few miles south to Hickory Island where there are 10 beach access points with free parking. Although you may be able to spend a week on this island without a car (take a cab to/from airport and use the trolley or bikes on the island), I found a rental car on Hotwire that cost less than the cab would have (about $60 each way), so it's worth checking into. The property manager was very accessible and answered my emails immediately. Security deposit was refunded very quickly. Would recommend this rental to anyone for a safe and peaceful vacation with beautiful views and quiet location"

"What a beautiful, serene setting any time of year. Though I only stayed by myself, the lodge was large enough for multiple families. It was an excellent and relaxing getaway. I went for long walks in nature (an unusually warm day for Jan) and enjoyed the sunshine on the back porch. Saw deer, pheasant, horses, cattle and tons of birds. When it finally got cold I went indoors for the warmth of the fireplace."

"Excellent property. Deana is wonderful. House is spotless and well equipped and just as advertised. Extremely responsive. Received a useful packet of information for local area and things to do etc. swimming pool tennis pickleball and bocce ball as well. Canoe provided for lake which is nice an quiet and two minutes walk from the house. I can't recommend it enough.

Wonderful base to explore the northwest coast of the Big Island
"The Puako area is very special, has some of the best resorts because it has some of the best beaches, and you can easily get to them all from this great apartment! There's a small beach across the street, but some of the best resort beaches are a 20 minute walk down a trail along the water. Others are a short drive to get some variety.
Peg and Bud are wonderful hosts, and they have provided plenty of written information and books in the apartment that give the inside information on the best things to see and do in the area. The upstairs apartment is light and sunny, with all that you need in the kitchen, a great screened in reading/sitting area, and spacious living room and bedroom. Outside there's a gas grill that we used every night to barbecue fish from the local markets. We loved the outdoor shower for getting off the salt and sand before going into the apartment. We used the blender to make great drinks from the fruits we got at the farmers' markets. You're in a neighborhood so there's a bit of noise in the morning when the neighbors head off to work, but in general this location is off the beaten path and very quiet.
There's a small general store 5 minutes away, and a large grocery story about 15 minutes away. We hit many of the farmer's markets, particularly up in Waimea which is only about a 20 min. drive. There's a great fish market and trailer serving fresh fish lunches about 10 min. away. There are beach bikes, chairs, boogie boards, towels etc. to use during your stay so all you have to do is show up!
We also loved their cat, whom we fed when Peg and Bud had to leave for a few days.
From here we went on for about a week to see the volcano erupt and checked out the beaches, etc. around Kona and south. But Puako was by far the most restful, fun place to be, and this apartment couldn't have been a better place to stay."
