  • Beautiful house, spectacular wildlife!

"This place is amazing! The house is beautiful and the wildlife spectacular!. They dont show that many pictures of the house but you won't be disappointed. The upper level is wide open except for the bedroom which can be completely closed and locked from the inside. The upstairs bedroom also has a private bathroom. During the day it can be opened up to enjoy the weather. There is also a large seating area and a fully screened cabana on the opposite end of the large deck. Downstairs there is another bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and dining room. The kitchen and dining room close and open similarly to the bedroom so you can feel completely secure at night and feel like you're in the middle of the jungle during the day. Everyday I sat at the table and marveled while eating breakfast overlooking a beautiful pool and magnificent scenery. You're not really going to see the ocean much from here but you get so much more. Tons of White faced and Howler monkeys as well as Toucans and other birds living with you right there. We also saw a monster iguana in the Tree of Life (that's what we came to call it and you will know exactly which one I'm talking about if you stay here). The Howlers got a little wild one morning and had a little poop fight and our SUV got caught in the crossfire but it just makes the experience that much more memorable. Speaking of SUV, you can get almost the entire way to the property without 4 wheel drive but there is a quite the hill at the very end that you may or may not be able to make up in a regular car. Be warned. As far as bugs, well, yes there are bugs. You just have to be smart about it. When it gets to be dusk if you leave everything open and have lights on the bugs are going to come in. If you leave the lights off or close it up you can pretty much control it. You can walk to the store or several restuarants and bars no problem (just remember the hill on the way back). Between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo there are all kinds of restaurants, bars and shops so you really dont have to be in any one area in particular. That whole stretch of coast is really the draw. You won't regret it."

  • Unpretentious slice of paradise

"Off the Reef was exactly what I had hoped: Clean, comfortable, casual, and a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. My wife and I spent our 20th anniversary here and LOVED it. We spent the first two days just walking the beach, snorkeling and swinging in the hammock. The grounds at OTR are beautiful. So is the beach. We saw very few other people on it the entire week. Most romantic. We prefer cooking to eating out and the kitchen was well-stocked. So was the "fun stuff" closet once we started to feel adventurous. Snorkeling gear, lots of good towels, binoculars, bicycles, etc. The only word of caution I would offer prospective renters is to let you know that the infrastructure on Eluthera is 3rd world. The internet goes out sometimes, as does the TV. There are few street signs. The water went out when we were there but the property mgr came out and switched us to cistern within hours. No problemo. If you can deal with these little inconveniences I highly recommend OTR. To me it's all part of the relaxing charm of Eluthera."

  • Apollo condo 203

"We owned a condo for 15 years in Madeira Beach, Florida and sold last year and decided to try a trip more south. I searched all the rentals listed on vrbo and decided to go with this condo and we were extremely happy with it. For a small unit, it certainly had everything we needed and with the large balcony it felt bigger than it was and was very comfortable for 2. The condo was fully equipped and very clean! The king bed and pillows were really comfortable as was the living room couch. It was nice to have beach towels and beach chairs to use. Marco Island was a cute little Island with lots of nice restaurants, but this building has it's own restaurant, which was really convenient. The movie theater was fun, it serves drinks and food not just popcorn and was only about 1/4 mile from the condo so you can walk. We prefer Madeira Beach's soft white sand, but if you like to hunt for shells, Marco Island is the place to be! Dave and Rebecca were very accommodating and quick to answer my emails. It was easy to see the care they put into their condo and that they want their renters to be happy. We will definitely come back to Marco Island in the future. Thank you again Dave and Rebecca for renting your condo to us! We had a great time!"
