  • Pictures do this space NO justice!!

"Our small church group used this home for our first retreat. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!! It was spacious, accommodating, clean, cozy and perfect for our stay. Some of us arrived on Sunday and by the end of the week all members had arrived...with NO change to space, and no discomfort or inconvenience. We visited the beach, which was a short walk from the property. It was perfect for those of us who wanted to stay in and for those who wanted to go to Walmart, stores, movie, basketball court etc., it was perfect as well. We stayed in and was content and with no problem of feeling detached from the rest of the world. The owner was attentive to our needs and responded immediately when I called. Potential renters be advised that we had a mixed group: Young children (3-9), teens (13, 15, 19), young adults (mid 20's thru 30), as well as ages 39, 47, and 52 and ALL WE LOVED IT and plan to definitely stay again when the opportunity presents itself."

  • Great location, ideal for families with kids.

"Our family of five stayed in this duplex in July of 2013. The weather outside was hot as blazes, but the apartment was nice and cold when we arrived. The AC units were great -- so effective that we only used two of the four AC units. The downstairs had two bedrooms which we used for our three kids. They loved the loft bed and the bunk beds, and the bedrooms were dark (nice for the 5:30 am sunrise). Downstairs also included a roomy kitchen with three bar stools where the kids perched for breakfast, and a long dining room table and living room with a couple of couches -- and floor to ceiling bookshelves around the fireplace. Wish we would have had some time to read! Upstairs, the master bedroom was large and comfortable with nice linens and plush bamboo/cotton towels. There was a washer and dryer, which we utilized a lot (NYC in the summer with kids involves a lot of dirty clothes). Also upstairs was an amazing deck where we enjoyed wine and beer the homeowners left for us -- it was cooler at night, and extremely quiet for NYC. There were some great restaurants in the neighborhood, as well as some fun playgrounds in Riverside Park, and the American Museum of Natural History (great) and the Manhattan Children's Museum (we did not visit, but walked by it). Subway was close, too. The downside to the duplex was climbing the 55 or so stairs to get to the first floor of the apartment -- but this was not a problem for our family. The duplex was clean and well maintained, and the housekeeper answered all of our questions when we arrived. The owners were easy to work with, and left great directions -- as well as menus for takeout, guide books, subway maps and more guidebooks, all of which we utilized."

  • Home away from home

"I am a repeat customer not only of Portovenere, but of this apartment and other villas by the same owner as well. I love this apartment in particular because of the views and location. The 'gulf of the poet' as they call it is one of the most amazing places I've been to in all of the world. It is located close to the center of town where the dining is really beyond description. My two year old son loves to run in the piazza with the children from all over the world. Having an English speaking contact with so much knowledge of the area and surrounding areas is invaluable. It's always so nice to learn of new things to do and be reminded of the favorites we already have. The apartment itself is only 2 bedrooms but sleeps quite a few depending on the situation you are looking for. I appreciate being able to get laundry done on a daily basis and the well equipped kitchen. We have whipped up quite the meals when too tired from being at the beach at the end of the road. The owner, Sarah, always goes the extra mile to make sure we are all set with a bottle from her family's vineyard. It's such a nice touch and always appreciated. She knows we will repeat business and doesn't take that for granted one bit. Before knowing this property we rented elsewhere but prefer this one because of the amenities, location and personal touch."
