Notes Re Months and Rates
• Months that are not listed above are already rented and not available.
• The Senior Rate is available for one or two renters 60 years or older who have only very occasional overnight guests.
• We cap the number of overnight guests in our condo at four persons.
• We do not allow smoking or pets of any kind under any circumstances.
• Our condo is not suitable or equipped for toddlers and young children.

We own a beautiful corner-unit 2BR 2BA condo on Coronado Beach in the prestigious Coronado Shores resort complex next to the Hotel Del Coronado. (Our building is featured in my 'blue beach' photograph above.) We love our place and visit as often as possible. Because we are full-time professors, our time in Coronado is limited so we rent our place by the month when we cannot be here.

CORONADO SHORES

Coronado is a village on a peninsula directly across the bay from San Diego, which is connected to San Diego by the Coronado Bridge. Coronado Shores is a luxury gated community on Coronado Beach, nine miles from the San Diego Airport. There are 10 high-rise buildings in the Coronado Shores complex, each with doormen and video security. The complex includes eight tennis courts and four swimming pools/Jacuzzi. Gas barbecues and picnic tables are available for picnics by the sea. The clubhouse has pool tables, big screen TV and a bar, with an outdoor veranda on the beach, and a table tennis and recreation area where regular events (e.g. dances, card games) occur. A pavilion is available for private parties and special events (e.g. wedding receptions). A fully equipped, staffed fitness center has nautilus, weight lifting equipment and sauna/Jacuzzi. All facilities are available at no charge to tenants and their guests. There is a long, lighted boardwalk that runs along Coronado Beach, starting at our condo, and running north past the Hotel Del Coronado and multi-million dollar homes, suitable for walks, people gazing and exercising, both day and night. In 2012, Dr. Beach rated Coronado Beach as the #1 beach in the USA.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES in Coronado include bicycling, bird watching, boogie boarding, concerts in the park, fishing, golfing, hiking, library, local theater, parks, restaurants, sandy beaches with lifeguards, sailing, surfing, swimming, tennis and windsurfing. There is even winter ice skating at the Hotel Del! Coronado has a beautiful 18-hole championship golf course, and the Glorietta Bay Marina is next door for sailors. There are bike trails around the island, including a 20-mile round trip Rails-to-Trails path that starts by our condo building. There is an excellent public library with a nice movie collection and free concerts in the park on Sundays. The Glorietta Bay Civic Center and Promenade is next door to us, with a new Community Center (huge pool) and park running along the bay. And, of course, you may just prefer to walk the beach and view the sunset. If you leave the island and go to San Diego, attractions include Balboa Park, Scripps Birch Aquarium, Gas lamp Quarter, Legoland, Old Town San Diego, San Diego Museums, San Diego Zoo, Sea World and the Wild Animal Park.

OUR CONDO

Our 2BR 2BA condo is a corner unit in the El Camino building at the Coronado Shores. My 'blue beach' photo of the surfer shows our building (El Camino) on the left.

Our place may be ideal for you -- if you are like us -- individuals who want a home-away-from-home in which to relax for a month by the sea, or to mix work and relaxation. Our condo is designed for professional and retired couples who want to 'get away from it all' (or at least partly get away) for a month or two. Previous renters have been lawyers, book authors, university professors, retired bank presidents, snowbirds escaping the winter, and desert natives escaping the summer heat. We are particularly interested in renting to seniors or to professional singles or couples who will look after our place with the same loving care that they give to their own home.

We work at least half days when we are in our condo. We have therefore equipped our place for ourselves -- and for other professionals. We have two workspaces equipped with desks, chairs and lamps. We have brand new (July 2016) 1200 mps Netgear Powerline adaptors so laptop computers can run either on wifi or LAN line (LAN is faster and safer than wifi.) Our condo has the fastest and most expensive internet available in the Shores, which we update each year: ATT U-VERSE fiber optics cable with wired-and-wireless Internet. We provide UNLIMITED FREE local and LONG DISTANCE telephone service throughout the USA and Canada using AT&T U-VERSE on four landline phones in the condo. Our AT&T phones are LINK2CELL so that two cell phones can be linked and used through the landline phone system, offering better quality than cell phones.

Our condo includes many items available only in the most exclusive hotels including strand bamboo flooring, granite countertops, solid cherry cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms made by a master carpenter, and Moen shower units. The floors in our condo are strand bamboo everywhere except in the bedrooms (wall-to-wall carpet) and bathrooms (Carerra porcelain tile). The colors in our condo are whites, browns, blacks and tans, with occasional touches of ocean blue. The walls are decorated with modern art, paintings by local artists (e.g., Uwe) and photographs of Coronado. The atmosphere is simple, uncluttered, professional and welcoming.

Our unit is completely stocked with dishes, cutlery, bedding, towels, beach towels, hairdryers, binoculars, maps, books, DVDs, guidebooks, etc. Four hand-assembled, annotated and regularly updated binders provide more information and coupons about the area: Condo Information, Dining & Restaurants, Activities, and Attractions. There are also several photography books as one of the owners is an avid amateur photographer.

For in-house entertainment, there are 3 flat-screen, high-definition LCD TVs: 50' (living room), 37' (master bedroom) and 32' (second bedroom). DISH satellite TV (with Sirius Radio) is on all three TVs. The living room TV has a 2013 top-of-the-line DISH VIP722 Digital Video Recorder (DVR), so you can record over 300 hours of TV programs, and a monthly subscription to over 70 DISH high definition TV stations. Three ROKU Players, one for each TV, are set up with Netflix, AMAZON PRIME, HBOGO and ACORN TV accounts that provide free access to 1000s of movies and TV shows including British TV shows. A SONY DVD player and dozens of DVDs provide additional media options. There are a variety of games and books for entertainment, and the living room TV can be hooked up via HMDI cable (provided) if you bring a video game player or other equipment.

Our corner balcony has a marble floor, plexiglass walls and two brand new North Cape Bainbridge swivel rocking club chairs with a matching side table, so you can while away the hours reading and enjoying the ocean and bay views on our protected balcony.

We have one designated parking spot. Each floor in the El Camino building has its own commercial washer & dryer. There are two elevators plus rapid access o the beach via two secure stairwells.

RESTRICTIONS

• All rental properties in Coronado rent for a minimum of 25 nights. The restriction of a 'minimum 26 consecutive rental days (25 nights)' is a Coronado zoning law and is enforced by the city. Our condo therefore rents by the month. Rentals typically start on the afternoon of first day of the month and end on the morning of the last day of the month.

• Pets (dogs, cats, etc.) as we are highly allergic and so do not allow ANY pets under ANY circumstances, regardless of size.

• Smoking - again, allergies prevent us allowing smoking anywhere in our condo (including the balcony) so NO SMOKING under any circumstances.

• Young children, especially toddlers age 2-5, given the all-white linens, glass and electronics. Like most Shores condos, we also do not have window screens since we almost never see flying insects.

• ALL BOOKINGS MUST BE MADE THROUGH THE OWNERS, LORRAINE AND CHARLES HERMANN. Our condo is NOT listed on Craigslist.

Other Amenities

WHY CHOOSE OUR CONDO?

We believe the following feature of our condo distinguish it from most other condo rentals at the Coronado Shores. We have toured dozens and dozens of condos at the Shores, but have yet to find one we like better than our own. Here are some reasons why we particularly like our condo:

• Our beach access is exceptionally easy since the El Camino building is directly on Coronado Beach. We can get to the beach in two minutes by secure stairwell or three by elevator.

• Because we have a corner unit, our condo has windows on two sides, which gives us three views: Coronado Beach, Coronado Bay and the San Diego skyline. Most Shores condos have one view (bay or beach). Our condo therefore offers multiple views. We see the sun rise in the morning and often get up early to watch the sun come up over the mountains. The views -- in three directions -- are spectacular. We see the San Diego skyscrapers to the northeast; the San Diego mountains, Coronado Bridge and Glorietta Bay to the southeast; and the Navy Seals, Coronado Beach and Tijuana to the south and southwest. We watch the sailboats on Glorietta Bay, the Navy Seals activities, and families enjoying Coronado Beach. We love to listen to the ocean, and the cross-breezes (which only corner unit condos have) are wonderfully invigorating.

• A corner unit also offers the advantage of cross-winds. We leave the windows and sliding-glass balcony doors open all day long and the windows at night. The cross-breezes mean our condo is never hot, even during August. We have, but almost never turn on, the air conditioning, instead using the sea breezes to keep our condo cool.

• Our condo has a balcony. Many Shores condos have gotten rid of their balconies because they were not using them. Our balcony is on the side, which offers greater protection from the higher temperatures, afternoon sun and stronger winds that affect ocean front condos. We therefore spend more time on our balcony than most. We have also equipped our balcony with two brand new (2016) North Cape Bainbridge swivel rocking club chairs with a matching side table.

• The El Camino building is the most south building in the Shores complex, which offers several advantages. First, El Camino is next to the Navy Seals training complex so we can watch the Seals training on the beach daily. Second, because there are no other Shores buildings directly next door to El Camino, people in other condo units cannot look directly across and into our condo and we have more privacy than many Shores condos. Third, there is nearby free street (daytime) parking in two locations; some of the Shores buildings do not have nearby parking for visitors. Fourth, also next door to El Camino building are two tennis courts, adult-sized and child swimming pools, a hot tub and changing rooms, and several grills and picnic tables for cooking outdoors.

• Lastly, from a renter’s perspective, there are additional items to consider. First, the condo owners are not full-time landlords trying to maximize rental income. We are university professors who plan to eventually live in our condo several months a year and we have decorated with that purpose in mind. We rent our unit only on a part-time basis, and are careful to select renters who will treat our condo as gently as we do. Second, just as important as the owners from a renter’s perspective is the property manager who handles the financial details and day-to-day interactions with renters. Our property manager is Carolyn Crane who owns Crestmont Realty. Her firm regularly wins the “Best of Coronado” contest for the best property management company in Coronado. Third, we have several couples and individuals who have rented and returned to our condo year after year – another good sign that our condo is well stocked and well managed.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2005

About the owner: My husband has been visiting Coronado since he was a teenager. We were married here (with our wedding reception at the Shores Roedder Pavilion). We decided to buy our own place, and were fortunate to do so, in 2005. We are university professors who rent out our condo for most of the year while we teach in Texas. Eventually, once we retire, we plan to spend the winters in Texas and the summers in Coronado, but until then, we mostly rent our place except for occasional visits. We think of Coronado as a bit like Maui used to be in the 1950s (but a whole lot closer to Texas than Hawaii) - a small island village with unique colorful houses, flowers everywhere, and people outside walking and biking and enjoying themselves. We can leave the windows open day and night - no bugs and lots of ocean breezes to enjoy. San Diego offers all the amenities of a world-class city; Coronado the advantages of an island village community. We are Zoo members and love the theater, both the Old Globe and the La Jolla Playhouse. We enjoy exploring the hiking trails around San Diego (e.g. Sunrise Highway). We particularly like our condo because our building is right on the beach and we have a corner unit with windows on two sides, giving us both beach and bay views. We leave the windows open on both sides to enjoy the ocean breezes and hear the waves. The balcony is protected from the winds and shaded from the hot afternoon sun, making it useful 24-7. We watch the Navy Seals training on the beach, the sailboats in Glorietta Bay, and the big ships going under Coronado Bridge. Every day there are new things to watch and enjoy. Every year, we update our condo and its furnishings. Our aim has been to furnish our condo specifically for busy professionals (academics, lawyers, doctors, consultants) - individuals or couples who want to spend a month at the beach, combining work with play.

Why the Owner Chose Coronado Shores, Coronado, CA, USA:
WHY CHOOSE OUR CONDO? We believe the following feature of our condo distinguish it from most other condo rentals at the Coronado Shores. We have toured dozens and dozens of condos at the Shores, but have yet to find one we like better than our own. Here are some reasons why we particularly like our condo: • Our beach access is exceptionally easy since the El Camino building is directly on Coronado Beach. • Our condo has a balcony; many Shores condos do not. Our balcony is on the side, which offers greater protection from the afternoon sun and stronger winds that affect ocean front condos. We therefore spend more time on our balcony than most, enjoying the views from our new North Cape Banbridge swivel rocking club chairs.

The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
OTHER UNIQUE BENEFITS • The El Camino building is the most south building in the Shores complex, which offers several advantages. First, El Camino is next to the Navy Seals training complex so we can watch the Seals training, playing volleyball, graduation ceremonies, and so on, next door to us on the beach daily. Second, because there are no other Shores buildings directly next door to El Camino, people in other condo units cannot look directly across and into our condo and we have more privacy than many Shores condos. Third, our condo is at the ideal height (4th floor) for a Shores condo. We look out at the waves and people, not down at the tops of their heads. We are low enough to hear the waves all the time; the higher up you go the less you hear. We can also run up and down the stairs to the beach. Fourth, there is nearby free street (daytime) parking in two locations; some of the Shores buildings do not have nearby parking for visitors. Fifth, also next door to El Camino are two tennis courts, adult-sized and child swimming pools, a hot tub and changing rooms, and several grills and picnic tables for cooking outdoors. • Lastly, from a renter’s perspective, there are additional items to consider. First, we are not full-time landlords trying to maximize rental income, but university professors who plan to eventually live here several months a year and have decorated our condo with that in mind. We rent our unit only part-time and are careful to select renters who will treat our condo as gently as we do. Second, also important from a renter’s perspective is the property manager who handles the finances and day-to-day interactions with renters. Our property manager is Carolyn Crane who owns Crestmont Realty. Her firm regularly wins the “Best of Coronado” property management company. Third, we have several couples and individuals who have rented and returned to our condo year after year – another good sign that our condo is well stocked and well managed
