I own the property along with my two brothers. There are too many of us to profile as I have 6 kids, my brother Jim has 5, and my brother Fran has 4. I chose my immediate family to profile.
Kathy Tight purchased this house in 1994
We never intended to use the house as a vacation rental. But we have enjoyed so many quality family vacations here, we wanted to share the experience with others.
The house is wide open and conducive to either a large group or quiet time for those just wanting to get away.
The Beach/River house is positioned in an ideal location directly on the Atlantic Ocean with across the road frontage on the Indian River. Impressive to us was the rocky shoreline which is unusual in Florida, offering spectacular geyser like splashes from the crashing waves. On calm weather days, the water was close to Caribbean Blue, very clear, and breathtaking. The house is positioned close to the water's edge, which we LOVED. We sat in the covered ocean side porch rocking chairs for hours. Large sliding doors and screens opened the living area and master suite up to the porch so we never felt far from the wind and waves.
One feature of the rental that should be more emphasized is the handicapped access via a ramp (at times steep) from the parking area along the south side of the house to the ocean side porch and through the sliding doors to the second level of the home. The 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen and living areas as well as an outside porch overlooking the riverside allow handicapped guests free movement. This is unique as other rentals in the area require navigating steps to reach the second and/or third floors. The riverside ground level of the home provides a den and bath which is useful when accessing the river amenities. Brick pavers provide excellent access to the Indian River and wide wooden steps down to the water are helpful entrances into kayaks or other water toys. The long dock with a picnic table at the end would be paradise to fishermen and boaters who want to bring a boat and has water and electricity available at the dock's end.
Our party cooked most meals and found the kitchen to be very well stocked with sharp knives, cutting boards, Keurig coffee maker, blender, storage containers large and small, all types of cooking tools, pots, pans - probably the best equipped kitchen we've seen in our years of vacationing. The property was clean, well-maintained, comfortable, cozy and an easy place to relax. We did not require assistance from the owner. It was, however, the easiest to rent property we have ever encountered. Pay on VRBO and the owner emails the door code the week of your stay. Short, simple instructions are posted on the wall in the kitchen. Activities within walking distance are Bathtub Reef Beach and the House of Refuge. Just minutes away by car (less than 3 miles) along Hwy A1A is Elliott Museum, Publix, and a nature center for kids. We will return to this property - soon we hope!
My husband, his parents, our grown son and I had a wonderful time staying in your lovely vacation home on Hutchinson Island. What a delightful place to spend a week.
What a thrill to have the ocean with sunrise out the back, and the intercostal with sunsets out the front. We were steps away from both on this narrow section of the isle.
It is obvious you take great care and pride in keeping up the home. Your kitchen was marvelously stocked for every need. We did visit local breweries and restaurants, but spent most of the time eating in and enjoying the house and its views.
The furniture is very comfortable to sit in, and your dining room table and chairs are delightful with their beach colors. There is so much room, plenty for a much larger group.
Every one of us slept well, the beds are very comfortable.
Our parents (who are in their 80’s) thoroughly enjoyed the front upstairs patio, where they could avoid the ocean breeze (which was too strong for them on some days while we visited).
My husband and son brought their own poles, and after purchasing fishing licenses at Walmart, loved catching fish off the dock. They caught enough that we had a Fish Fry for our Thanksgiving dinner!
The beach was wonderful to walk, and the unique stone formations along the shore were intriguing to investigate.
My husband, son and I spent a day kayaking at Jonathan Dickinson State Park, which is not too far south, and had a great time! We investigated Trapper Nelson’s Interpretive Site 1/2 through our paddle as a way to stretch our legs, and was surprised to be greeted by a guide who gave us a tour of the entire complex.
My husband and I even went snorkeling down at Bathtub Beach at the end of the isle.
The only problem we encountered: the Eliot Museum decided to close early the day before Thanksgiving, so we did not get to go in. We ended up across the street at the Florida Oceanographic Society, which was amazing for seeing wildlife and learning about them. They let you get your hands on so many species. Due to some issues with the tank, we were not able to touch the stingrays upon arrival. We got a much better surprise later, as we got to feed the stingrays instead. This was a once in a lifetime experience, and the highlight of the trip for me!
Overall, if we are able to travel back to Florida, we certainly plan to stay at your home in the future.
We appreciate receiving the security deposit back in a timely manner, as well.
Our family had a wonderful vacation at your home! We couldn't have been more satisfied.. The beach is at your doorstep - the Indian River is at your other doorstep!! It was a wonderful time! Your home was very comfortable, and it was very easy to relax in.. All the conveniences - shopping, etc. - are within a 5-10 minute drive.. We are looking forward to our next vacation!
We had a wonderful time at your home. The house was comfortable, short walk to the beach and a wonderful view. We enjoyed many different activities including just sitting on the deck and walking on the beach.
Slice of heaven! First time we booked a trip through Vrbo. We we nervous, however the owner was fantastic. She was helpful at every turn and question. My Family of 7 absolutely love this home! The house had everything you could possibly need. I wish my bed at home was as comfortable. The home is surrounded by water. Sunrise in the morning and sunset at night! Walk 30 yards off the back deck and your in the ocean. The beach is beautiful. More sea shells than you could carry! The private pier for fishing and day dreaming is priceless! Views of the Indian River lagoon are incredible. Aquatic wildlife is everywhere. We spotted many dolphin, and caught a few snook! If you love water, sun, away from the tourist hustle you found it! Can't wait to get back!
This was our 4th stay at your wonderful beach house. It is like a small piece of heaven with the ocean to the east and the river to the west. The new Publix being just 5 minutes away was also very handy. Loved the remodeled bathrooms and the new sliding glass doors. Everything we needed was available and made our stay even less stressful. Our multi-generational family very much enjoyed looking at all the family photos on the walls, making the whole experience so much cozier than staying at a hotel.
