Fun, art filled, colorful, private apartment in a beautiful older home in the quiet residential neighborhood of Mt. Baker. In summer, you can open the french doors of the apartment and relax and enjoy the surrounding garden. The apt is only steps to Lake Washington and Mt. Baker Beach where you can swim, walk, play tennis, ride your bike, or dine in some wonderful small restaurants. If you would like to visit downtown you can catch an electric trolley only two blocks away. Once downtown you can easily catch the light rail to many other fun walkable neighborhoods in Seattle. The location of the apartment is the best of two worlds, it's quiet with natural surroundings but only a short distance to the fun filled city. If you arrive here by car there is a private designated parking spot just steps from the apartment.

Why Owner chose
I was on my way to a garage sale when a friend saw the sign For Sale By Owner. We climbed the stairs to the home and looked back - Wow! what a view. The lake was sparkling and house so charming - built in 1923 with original windows and beautiful moldings and French doors. I fell in love and made an offer that day. I've never regretted my decision. I have lived here since 1988 and enjoyed the magic of this home and the beauty of this neighborhood and it's residents every day.

Perfect location for staying in Seattle
This was the very first time I used any kind of airbnb facility and I have to say that this location rocks. Private parking, provided you don't bring a gigantic SUV, in which case you have to park in surrounding streets, but that is still free. An easy walk to public transport and downtown is really just a busride away.
The space easily accommodates 2 to 3 people (full bed and a futon), has an original interior design and boasts a lovely terrace that looks out on Lake Washington. The contact for this property reacts quickly and adequately, albeit just via the app / email / telephone, but not in person.
And this, as a first-timer in this kind of accommodation, was the only weird thing during this experience: to be in somebody's basement, heard them walk and talk, see there silhouets in the evening upon returning "home", but never meet them. I guess this is a plus and a minus at the same time, depending on your expectations and personal preference. Using a third party "co-host" keeps it in the realm of business and prevents "likes and dislikes" influencing your stay. Plus no meddling from an involved owner or property manager. Nevertheless, I personally would have appreciated being able to put a face to the host/owner and meet them at least once.
There was no excessive noise at any time, but in the morning and in the evening you will hear the owners getting ready for work/bed. If that does not bother you: book this accommodation and enjoy.
I appreciated that everything was clean and that there were even some snacks, coffee and tea on the premises.
Suggestions for improvements by owner:
Change the "perfume" of moth balls in the bedroom cabinet so the drawers can be used without everything smelling of... well... moth balls!
And... when the place is not rented out, better to keep the heater on or, alternatively, install something to enable the tenants to adjust to their comfort zone. I found it quite chilly upon arrival and would rather not have had to ask for a higher room temperature three days in a row.
Add one more cooking pot for those who wish to cook diner in the evening...
But let's not split hairs: a wonderful spot in a safe, quiet neighbourhood and a nice introduction for me to the phenomenon of airbnb.
This is Malinda the owner of the house. I hope I can address some of your concerns about our rental unit.
We have enlisted the services of Laura so that we may preserve our privacy and the guests privacy and still service the needs of the guests. When I was hosting directly I found that guests usually preferred their privacy over having contact with us. I would usually greet guests in person however, as time went on I noticed most guests preferred to self check in and feel that they had autonomy from the upstairs residents similarly as they would in a hotel. I guess each guest is looking for a different experience. If you would have voiced your preference to Laura I would have been happy to come down and meet you.
Thanks for the heads up on the moth balls smell. I will try to air them out when I have the opportunity.
With regard to the heat, I apologize if you were uncomfortable. Unfortunately, you came at a transitional time directly following the summer season when heat was not required. When you alerted us it was the first time we turned the heat on. We will be aware of this in the future.
Yes, thanks for letting us know about needing more cooking equipment. We can definitely add one more cooking pot. We want the kitchen to be fully functional for our guests.
Thanks for the compliments on the space and the neighborhood. We have lived here for 30 years and are happy to hear that our guests enjoy it as much as we do.
Take care and best wishes for many more wonderful Airbnb/Vrbo experiences.
A nice, clean apt. Good access to bus lines. Just right for 3
Nice place, well appointed, and in a beautiful location by the lake. We had a wonderful 3 night stay. Thanks!
Great place away from Seattle to enjoy all the things the City has to offer!
The apartment was very clean and every detail was thought of.
The apartment was very clean and every detail was thought out.
The kitchen was stocked with every necessary item to cook or heat up leftovers. The owner provided both coffee, snacks and drinks.
The location was perfect. Just steps from Lake Washington. Although it was a longer walk, we loved walking to Pikes Place Market, etc.
The outside garden area was beautiful and very quiet.
I recommend this property.
Our stay in Seattle was so wonderful. The apartment was so very nice with everything you could possibly want. The hosts were awesome and so helpful. The property is only 2 blocks from the bus stop and very convenient to Downtown via a 20 minute bus ride. The terrace overlooks Lake Washington and the scenery was breath-taking. I will definitely want to stay here again if we go to Seattle.
