PERFECT LOCATION !
HOUSE HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED. THE KITCHEN AND THE TOWELS COULD BE BETTER CLEANED, BUT IS JUST A SUGGESTION. I WOULD RECOMEND THE HOUSE TO A FRIEND AND RETURN WITH MY FAMILY AS WELL .
AMAZING cottage right on the sand! Pure delight!
The cottage was absolutely perfect and just amazing. Clean, well stocked and just so beautifully kept. The views were fantastic, beach was just awesome and it was a perfect stay. The property manager was wonderful to deal with and we had a great stay. Can't wait to come back! THANK YOU!
Some good, some not
Beautifully renovated cottage with high quality fittings such as ice making fridge/freezer, dishwasher etc. Very comfortable firm beds. Amazing sea view with beautiful changes in sea color with the sun, to be enjoyed from the veranda, and just a stone's throw to the most swimmable part of Sunset Beach and life-guard stand. Great sea temperature and lots to do on the popular North Shore! Set off the main highway on a quiet road with on site parking. Just a 50m walk down the road to access the beach.
Coastal erosion of the beach, prevalent over summer months in this spot, means that direct beach access was lost before our stay (the steps to the beach had been washed away), and the seaward part of the section was slumping into the surf. The upshot of this was remedial work being carried out during our stay, involving a team of some 6 workmen shoring up the section with "burrito" sandbags. The photos are misleading because in fact there is no "beach" in front of the property during summer months when coastal currents remove sand from this area. The surf is currently threatening to claim the house due to erosion.
We were told about the unexpectedly worsening erosion by phone 30 mins before boarding our flight from NZ, and were told it might not be safe to even stay in the property. We couldn't find a suitable alternative before boarding, so arrived at midnight and spent a somewhat sleepless night not being sure if we might have to evacuate the house. In the morning it was clear that the erosion was occurring slow enough that we could complete our 6 night stay. However, each morning we were woken at 7am by workmen and their radio, arriving to "shore-up" the property. They were constantly up and down the back of the property giving zero privacy, and one worker vomited close to deck. But worst of all, through no fault, we had constant problems with the toilet blocking and unblocking. We had feces flow back into the shower on several occasions. This was thankfully fixed the day after we raised the issue. It had clearly been an ongoing issue but somewhat disingenuously the property info intimated that customers could lose their deposit for causing toilet blockage.
We were disappointed that although Juliana offered a reduced price for our stay given the problems, we have not yet been refunded the proper amount. We're looking forward to Juliana's response to this, but communication has been poor so far.
Vitamin Sea, all day, every day!
I am a research junkie when it comes to finding and reviewing properties for my family vacations. I thoroughly reviewed everything on this listing and sifted through countless others, before deciding this was the one. And wow, did this property not disappoint!
It was the adorable and completely refurbished beach cottage sitting right on Ke Nui Rd, complete with breathtaking view and direct access to Sunset beach right out back. We watched some world class surfers, (name withheld to protect his privacy! Haha...we talked with him every day after he came in from a couple sets) easily manage the summer waves of Kammieland from our back deck. Seriously the most gorgeous view!!!
The cottage was very clean (a must for me!), had a nearly perfectly stocked kitchen (I would only suggest a colander), had great air flow with the ceiling fans and window placement, as well as very comfy beds. We initially were a little concerned that one bathroom for the four of us might be a little tight, but it worked just fine!
Juliana was quick with reply’s and was a pleasure to work with! We have rented around 12 homes on 2 Hawaiian islands over the past 10 years and I have to say, even though it was the smallest in size of them all, it is our new favorite. We will definitely return...we are dreaming of that sweet ocean view and sand between our toes! ❤️ Mahalo!!!!
Great Stay, Great Location, Great Amenities, Helpful Manager
My family of three thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house. The pictures in the listing do a great job of showing the house. No issues with it looking far different when we got there in person. The location is wonderful for a stay at Sunset Beach. It is right near the lifeguard stand and is a good launching point for the other places to see in the area. Everything in the home was of high quality, from the beds to the sheets to the towels. I really can say the beds are wonderful which is always a wildcard when finding a place to stay. Favorite part about the place was the porch with wonderful sectional. This really made enjoying the beach that much better, very relaxing.
A couple items to note, from what I could tell, the cable or satellite (not sure which) did not appear to be in service. We did not come to Hawaii to watch TV so was not an issue I even brought up to the property manager, but I thought I would mention. Only issue most of the time was the sand. Staying on the beach, one knows it will be hard to keep sand out, but we found this very challenging as the sand here was unlike any other sand from any other beach we have ever been on. It is far stickier, so just be aware of that.
A perfect NS getaway
If you are lucky enough to stumble across this house its worth every dollar. Its in the perfect location - close to food trucks and foodland and also in the best section of sunset beach. If you have kids the waves can me big directly in front (great for surfing) but there are very close walkable sections of the ocean great for kids that are calm. You are across the street from a great coffee breakfast truck. The house is clean and cute and has everything you could ever need in a rental. The view are unbeatable and the sound of the ocean will put you to sleep each night. DONT MISS OUT on this house. Thank you for having us and we will be back soon. We wouldn't stay anywhere else.
