Romantic Retreat Overlooking Lake

Bedrooms 1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Surrounded by trees, lake and nature, all comforts and amenities are extended to visitors here. This is a private and safe setting. Heated and air-conditioned, there is a fireplace in the living room and bedroom. A large oval deck leads from the living room and looks out onto the water as does the bedroom's balcony. A row boat sits at the water's edge. This three level house has an all wood interior with wide pine plank floors throughout and vaulted ceilings. A sleeping loft acts as a second bedroom with window and skylight. The bathroom's sloped ceiling also includes a skylight over a claw-footed tub sunk in Mexican paving tiles. Original art and objects along with some turn of the century antiques add to the warmth and charm of this very original and unique home on the lake. Internet access and HD TV available. Beautiful in all seasons.

Through renting my house and having been introduced to the beauty of this lake and the many things it has to offer, there are now several additional property owners with homes of their own in Sleepy Hollow Lake.

While definitely away in the country, every convenience is nearby. It's a lovely, still fairly secret and uncomercial spot, nestled in the foothills of the Catskills.

Beautiful house in the trees.

  • 5 of 5

We had the most peaceful, restorative week here. From the moment you walk in you're hit with a breathtaking view thru the wall of windowed doors leading out to the deck. The pictures are accurate but really don't do it justice. It's a small house but amazingly well designed and maintained. It's so open and airy that you really do feel like you're in an extravagant treehouse. Everything you need is there. We did run out to Staples to get an RCA splitter cable so we could play music from our iPhones through the TV. Otherwise, bring CDs for the boom box, which has surprisingly good sound. Communicating with Donna was easy and helpful. We can't wait to come back. We'd love to do a few days in the winter time and try out that incredibly cool see-through fireplace that serves the main bedroom and the living room simultaneously. Thank you, Donna, for a wonderful week!

Owner's Response: So glad, Stacey, the week was a success. I look forward to seeing you in winter when you will have even more lake from my very "extravagant treehouse."

Perfect lake house getaway

We had a wonderful stay here on Sleepy Hollow lake. The house was cozy and comfortable and the view can't be beat. It was a perfect weekend away for city folks.

Fantastic Rustic Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had the most amazing weekend at Donna's treehouse next to a lake. It had everything you need for cooking and relaxing, an amazing deep soaking bath and direct access to the lake. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone and would love to return in the near future! Thanks Donna!

Just like it says an amazing romantic getaway!

  • 5 of 5

First off Donna was a sweetheart she was so nice and was willing to share all the good places to go in the area. Just like many of the other reviews the place was amazing the pictures did not do it justice. It was me my wife and the dog and it was perfect for the three of us. The deck in the back was definitely the highlight for us, it was nice in the shade you can go outside and play games without being in the blaring sun and an amazing view of the sunset at night. We would highly recommend this for anyone looking to get away for some peace and quiet with beautiful surroundings. The town of Hudson is also fantastic, as where the locals. Thanks again Donna for an amazing experience!!!

Great place and superb host

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Donna's lodge with our 14 month old toddler and our dog. It was the perfect size for us, and we loved hanging out on the deck watching all the boats go by. It was also very close to the doggie beach and to the non-doggie beach (2 min drive away). Donna was also extremely responsive when we had a wifi issue that got quickly resolved. She also gave us lots of pointers on where to eat/shop, etc.

One note for anyone traveling with small children - the lodge has a few small sets of stairs (2 steps down) and has lots of beautiful trinkets that are not toddler friendly so we did have to be on guard so that our son wouldn't get hurt. Not a deal breaker, just something to be aware of, and I would highly recommend Donna's place.

Very disappointed!

  • 1 of 5

We have stayed in many HomeAway properties in the USA and Europe and this has been our only bad experience. The cottage was not as advertised, pictures were taken many years ago and have not been updated. We are older and the sunken tub was not shown in the photos and very difficult to access. The place was shabby, dust and animal hair on living room floor. No place to put personal belongings, clothes, toiletries etc. We contacted the owner immediately and she offered no help. She offered $200 on a 6 day rental if we promised not to write a poor review!

Owner's Response: This is the review I was threatened with by the Bastides the moment they arrived in my house - if I did not refund their money. The complaints were ridiculous and untrue. As birdwatchers the prediction of rain for the week ruined their plans, not my house. A new picture isn't necessary to show that the sunken tub in the bathroom is clearly defined and the grab bar is clearly visible. If this was a problem it should have been considered before booking. Mine is a pet-friendly vacation house on a lake - not the Hilton hotel. Except for the Pottery Barn sofa (not one yr. old) everything in the house is a turn of the century piece purchased in local shops in Hudson and the wonderful Coxsackie Antique Center. Unfortunate they could not be appreciated for what they represent. Possibly a few "animal hairs"from my dog were missed by me, but to be sure - not many. Wishing the Bastides better luck with their future bookings.
