Things to do around Porto heli:
At first sight, you think that there is not much to do. But on the contrary, your day can be filled with so many things! Exploring the various isolated beaches, or having a drink in the organised ones like Costa or Hinitsa. Enjoying water sports in professional centres like water ski, parachute, diving or sailing, as the area is famous for the variety in water sports that it offers. Walking interesting paths like the Katafiki Gorge Crossing that connects Fournous Village with Ermioni (just 16 km away from Porto Heli) where you can enjoy the natural beauty, find unique birds and the famous argolic orchid.
Moreover, Porto Heli is the perfect base for short excursions. Visit the ancient city of Alieis, the windmills in Cranidi, Mycenes (100km), the famous theatre of Epidavros (55km), the lemon forest (50km). Nafplio is only 80 km away and you can see the imposing Rocks of Palamidi, the most thundering and complex Venetian Castle East, the castle of Akronafplia and the third castle, Mpourtzi. We also suggest visiting the lagoon of Ververoda which according to legends was the favourite hideaway of pirates. Other places worth seeing are the tower of Elli, the Twin (Didima) Caves, the monastery of Avgos and the monastery of st. Anargiroi.
Three excursions you shouldn’t miss are the following. An afternoon walk in Spetses. With a sea - taxi you can go to Spetses just to enjoy an ice cream and a short walk. As there is a 24 hour link with Porto Heli, you can stay there as long as you wish for a walk, dinner or for the night. A morning visit to Hydra for a swim. Just a 15minute distance with the sea – taxi, the island offers tranquillity, clean and calm beaches. In both Hydra and Spetses vehicles are not allowed making the environment more peaceful and friendly. Finally, you shouldn’t miss a daily cruise or visit to the historic city of Monemvasia, in the south of Peloponnese. Monemvasia occupies a steep, rocky islet connected to the Laconian coast by a bridge. The settlement was founded in the 6th century A.D. by the inhabitants of Laconia. A second settlement was later founded on a lower level, and gradually developed into a town of significant strategic importance. The scene is astonishing and you will definitely feel awe in the sight of the castle overlooking the sea. You will enjoy the walk in the narrow paths made by stone and a coffee of lunch in the stately homes which are now restored into restaurants and cafeterias. For longer excursions we definitely propose visiting the tower of Mistra, the cave of Diros where you visit the whole cave with small boats and Pylos. The more adventurous could probably set off for the island of Elafonisos which has been characterized as an earthly paradise by those who have already visited it.
