Overview

About the property

This two bedroom one bath home is located about 2 miles from Jewel Cave Monument and is in the center of the Black Hills and ATV trails. I am 8 miles from Custer State Park, 20 miles to Mt. Rushmore and 7 miles from Crazy Horse. No road noise only animal noise on full moons! You can expect to see deer every morning and evening and on rare occasions elk. The property has 8 acres with two fire pits and picnic tables. I raised my now adult children on this property we enjoyed it, however 8 acres in the middle of no where is considerable work. Currently, I travel continuously for my job so I am happy to share my personal home with people especially families. I love to share where I have so many fond memories, hoping you will have the same. I do have a private apt. for the care taker with it's own private entrance and exit. I am not around to tend to winter storms, lawn mowing, National Forest Rangers inspecting the fire pits, raking the pine needles, killing rodents, mending hammocks, supplying propane etc. There is considerable work to a property located in the country with 8 acres to boot.

However, there are no poisonous snakes to worry about as prairie rattlers don't like the elevation. The buffalo are kept out by the cattle guard. If you want to unplug from civilization this is the location. There is a barbecue and of course the fire pits are a family favorite. If you own atv's or side by sides bring them along as there is over 300 miles of trails from my driveway.

I supply free Wi-Fi along with Dish TV, Netflix on the 50" flat screen TV, board games and of course the hammocks (use at your own risk). Or just sit on the deck in the evenings a watch the sun set behind the hill.

Come and play!

Cheers Kaileen

Delightful and quiet get away. Secluded woodland setting.

  • 5 of 5

This house was a comfortable setting for the two of us. It was a central to our Black Hills destinations that included Hot Springs, Mt. Rushmore and Devils Tower. The kitchen was well equipped and the view from the picture window and deck were great. Beds comfortable. The outdoor grill was a plus. Cool weather and some snow did not allow us to take advantage of the fire pit but we had deer wonder through the lot and were greeted by the local buffalo herd as we headed to Route 16 each morning. If you have the time walk the road to the top of the ridge for great prairie and valley views. The two rock "look outs" seen from the house are able to be hiked to through the forest service lands (where we saw several elk). The owner was quick to respond and give advice when needed.

Overall great experience...

  • 5 of 5

We had a great vacation to the black hills and this rental property was part of the reason behind the great time. This was a wonderful property with a plethora of outdoor activities from yard games to fire pits. The atmosphere was wonderful! There is nothing that this rental owner has not thought of. Anything you might need or what during your stay I would be willing to bet that this property is stocked with it. Communication with the owner was very good and we could not complain about anything. The property is in great shape! One of the other reviewers commented on how the owner was living in the basement during their stay... I can see how that would be a little awkward, but she was not there when we stayed. Plus, the basement is completely closed off and locked from the rest of the house (different entrance and everything). It is more like there is an apartment below you that will normally be empty. The only other semi-negative comment I could leave is that the yard could have used some mowing. But, that wasn't terrible, and we had deer in the yard every evening and most mornings. Overall, great place to stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind response. I had missed the comments by W+++. Yes, I was there during the month of June to somewhat reclaim the yard mowing 8 acres with a push mover, then trimming trees, cutting fire wood, completing fire pit applications, fix the hammocks (the squirrels consider them their enemy and chew the cotton strings) There is considerable work in the country it doesn't just magically take place thus the apt. downstairs for housekeeping, maintenance and yes the Owner (who would have guessed it lol). Anyway, As far as the lawn goes...there is no service to mow lawns in the Black Hills in fact housekeeping is a huge issue. I am lucky in that I have a wonderful team there who do a great job (for $50/hr). :) For anyone who is reading my comments I would like remind people that this home is not a hotel (although I have stocked it better than a hotel) this is my private home. I raised my kids here, have memories here and am sharing it for a fee with the general public. The lawn may not be perfect however you are "In the Country"... People enjoy what you do in life and with whom you do it with! Sit back enjoy the deer and all of the beauty thats surrounds you including your family. Maybe forget about the lawn for a week. (or call me and I'll tell you where the mower is lol :) LIfe is a JOURNEY- Enjoy.

The property was clean and comfortable.

Overall we had a decent experience. The only negative was that there is owners living quarters downstairs. This was not disclosed in the rental information. The whole reason I rented a house was to be secluded and not have to worry with other guests. Although the owner is very nice and wasn't there every night I definitely was on guard the nights she was there. Trying to make sure we weren't being too loud and that our child wasn't thumping around on the floor as to disturb her. The owner never complained but had I known about the downstairs living quarters I wouldn't have rented this house.

Owner's Response: You should have said something and I would have left to my small bungalow in town. My home in the county requires twice the work of a home in town. I was simply enjoying my property, where I raised my now adult children while completing the long list of yard responsibilities, including cutting wood that you used plenty of....

Perfect for our family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay! The house was located closer enough to Custer to enjoy the benefits of town (grocery story, restaurants) but outside town enough to be quiet and relaxing. The house itself was perfect for our needs (2 adults, 3 children); not too big or too small. The only negative was no dishwasher, but that was easy enough to overlook given all the ways the house fit our needs. Given the location and accommodations it was better and cheaper than a hotel that slept 5 would have been in the area. No regrets!
