Why Nicole Reynolds chose Winchester
Great fishing, skiing, boating lake with Tim's Ford Marina nearby. It is extremely quiet out here, almost like you have the lake to yourself. Our property is less than 100 ft from the water, up on a hill, with stairs leading down to the double-decker dock. There is space in the dock for two jet skis.

Lovely Lake House
Our family of 12 (6 adults, 6 kids ages newborn to 15) enjoyed our Thanksgiving at this clean, beautiful, spacious house. It was the perfect size for our group, and the kitchen was well stocked to help make our Thanksgiving prep easy. We loved the movie room! The area was beautiful, and we enjoyed our view from the deck and hot tub. Tim’s Ford State Park is a 10 minute drive and a great place to go hike. We also took day trips to Lynchburg and Rock City/Ruby Falls.
When we arrived, we did have a problem with the electronic lock not working, but we were able to quickly contact the owner and get help to enter the house. Unfortunately we did have to refill the propane tank for the outdoor fire pit, and you will need to purchase your own firewood for the fireplaces inside. It was also very cold in the master bedroom/bath/closet while other bedrooms on the main level were warm. Make sure you pack accordingly should you visit in the winter! Some blankets on the bed would have been nice.
Overall the house suited our needs and helped us enjoy a nice trip with our family.
The house was very clean and comfortable. It was spacious and had all your necessary amenities. Gorgeous views from the decks. I would suggest a 4x4 vechicle as the drive way is steep. The rain made it difficult to travel with out it.
Great House- A few negatives that could be fixed
Overall: Great House and Location.
Group: 8 Adults, 1 Toddler, 1 Baby
Nice Dock, great water toys (paddle board, kayaks, floats), Big Green Egg Grill, great location on water, plenty of room in the house and on the porches for eating and relaxing, property manager is very responsive, 10 min drive from Tim's Ford Marina for Boat Rental
House has some wear and tear- stains on carpets, some lights work and some don't, etc.
Oven was broken and technician showed up a day late, which put a kink in our meal plans (there were obviously other cooking options, but we planned ahead to use the oven for breakfasts and dinners). We had rented a boat the day that the oven technician came, so one of us had to stay behind while he was there fixing the oven. Bummer.
There is a Nest Thermosat system that will drive you wild. I'm not sure if it was being remotely controlled, but the temperatures automatically reset every 2 hours to 72-75 degrees. We like a cool house, especially on vacation during the summer. Extremely frustrating to wake up sweating at night every 2 hours (in the basement), or come in from the lake to a hot house- it gets afternoon sun so it really heated up in the main living area.
Refrigerator- The refrigerator is relatively small, and the door was completely full when we arrived. With 4 families and 4 days, we needed all the refrigerator room we could get, so it was a little frustrating when it was full when we arrived. (Also Ice maker is slow so you make want to bring several bags of ice if you don't want to make trips to the store for extra).
Pictures show a covered tent/ cabana on the top deck of the dock, but there was no cover. Major negative for us since we had planned on using this for the toddler and the baby. The bottom of the deck is small and not great for corralling small children. We would have brought sun tents if we had known there wouldn't be a cover, but had to stay up on the porch because there was no shade on the top deck for the kids. Definitely check on that before you go if you plan on needing some shade by the water.
Thank you so much for the feedback. We cannot get better at what we are doing without our guests giving us honest responses.
I wanted to offer some clarity on a couple areas you were unhappy with.
The homeowner keeps the condiments in the fridge for guest use. Moving forward we will definitely take into account that there may be other guests that enjoy the use of the entire fridge. We can look into the homeowner keeping that clear just for guest use.
The canopy on the deck must have blown off in the last storm. We hadn't noticed it and no one had said anything about it. We have now ordered a new one and it should be installed within the month.
I am sorry about the oven. We tried to have it repaired before your arrival, but that was the soonest I could get our technician to the property. I wish you would have asked me if someone was needed at the home. Our entire security system functions remotely. I am able to lock and unlock the doors from my mobile device. I was unaware that you had someone waiting for him. I could have let him in so that your entire party could have enjoyed your day on the lake.
With the A/C, the nest had been set on ECO mode. The homeowner turned it down as soon as I text him about it and it should have come out of ECO mode. (We did have a technician go by this week just to check and everything seems to be cool now).
We really do appreciate all of the feedback. We want the home to be enjoyable and live up to the expectations of the guests. We are taking this feedback and making changes to better our experience for guests. We hope to have you again in the future.
My family really enjoyed themselves at Nicole's. Lake was fantastic. Theater was the same. Beds were very comfortable. My grandson thought it was the best medium castle he had ever been in.
The Cox Family
I want to say Thank You to the owners for allowing us into their home. Our family was very impressed and enjoyed our stay. The house was clean and had all the amenities that were promised. The communication with Nicole from VRBO was excellent and she responded in a very timely manner.
The home was big enough for all of us to have our privacy when needed. The screened in porch was great, as there were no mosquitos or bugs at night, but did keep you out of the sun during the day. I was great to have The Big Green Egg to grill on several afternoons and evenings.
This home turned out to be an adult playground, but we didn’t forget about the kids. The kids really enjoyed the dock, rafts, paddle boards and the entertainment room. It was nice to have a dock, as we brought our own small boat for tubing and fishing. There wasn’t a day that we did not have fun. The adults also enjoyed everything as well and took advantage of the Jacuzzi.
I would highly recommend this home for a vacation. Several of the family’s comments were that this was the best family vacation they have been on. The home and amenities were a “10” in our book.
