Mrs HOBLES purchased this House in 1999
Why Mrs HOBLES chose Marais-Vernier
We bought in 1999 Marais-Vernier our main residence is a house of brick and flint Masters. On the property of 5000 m2 of land, there were two buildings including a stable timber and cellar apples. Thatch roofing and framing the Cellar apples falling into ruin, so we decided to restore the January 2006 and make it a relaxing and welcoming place to discover our beautiful region which is a listed site and protected. Thus was born the House of Doves after four and a half years of work in May 2010.

Very nice Gite and excellent location
As other guests have stated, the gite is clean, modern and comfortable, and has everything you need in it. It even has less common things for a holiday home like a blender and salad spinner. Beds are comfortable. Our children are now 12 and 16 but I noticed that the baby cot is v good quality with a proper mattress (not one of those hard travel cots) and the stair gate is built in and sturdy. There was all you would need for a baby or toddler. The owner is very helpful, quick to respond to mails and questions and does speak English quite well, if you need the English language. The location is excellent. The area is full of scenic walks, beautiful views and thatched roof cottages. Also, it is in convenient distance for many day trips. We went to Rouen (cathedral painted by Monet, Museum des Beaux Arts) Lisieux (home of St. Therese and location of her reliquary, tomb, basilica, Carmelite convent, and home), Pegasus Bridge, Melville Batterie and Caen (D-Day History), beautiful beaches and towns of Honfleur, Deauville and Trouville sur Mer, Monet’s home and stunning gardens at Giverny, and so much more. We could not see all there was to see in one week. April was a great time to visit as there were hardly any crowds. There were literally only a handful of people in the Basilica in Lisieux and we had a private tour of Les Buissonnets. Giverny had the biggest crowds but even so, not at all inconvenient. All in all a great place to visit with a comfortable home away from home. Thank you Mrs Hobles!
Thank you for your pleasant and nice comment. The Marais Vernier is at the crossroads of many destinations and near honfleur.

The cottage is in the picturesque village of Marais Vernier situated in the Natural Park Boucles de la Seine. Every year on May 1st there is a special Fete d' Etampage when farmers from the Marais bring cattle through the village to have their horns branded with the Marais Vernier 'MV' & there are stalls with local produce for sale. Local people often wear the local costumes at these types of events.
The Cottage 'Doves' is convenient for visiting numerous local attractions including quaint Honfleur with its old cobbled quay so loved by artists, great for sampling the gastronomic delights of Normandie & enjoying its lovely sandy beach. Known as the Venice of the North, Pont Audemer is only 15 minutes away with its twice weekly markets plus many restaurants, enticing boulangeries & patisseries, as well individual shops & major supermarkets. Other nearby places to visit include Rouen with its famous cathedral & clock tower; Deauville with its annual American Film Festival, famous beachside boardwalk of the Stars, long sandy beaches with brilliantly coloured umbrellas, designer shops & also famed for many stud farms that can be visited & horse racing events; Trouville with its historic quayside fish market, Casino, beach with special children's play area & various sports activities, plus the elegant Belle Epoque villas; Pont l'Eveque & Livarot known for their cheese & cheese festivals; Lisieux - Cathedral & Basilica dedicated to St. Theresa who lived in the town, plus the nearby Cerza zoological park with many rare breeds.
Chateaux in the area include Chateau Harcourt & Chateau Champ de Bataille recently seen on Monty Don's French Garden tv programmes.
Monet's famous home & garden at Giverney is a wonderful place to visit to see the waterlily garden & bridge seen in many of his paintings.
The D day landing beaches are also within easy travelling distance of the cottage. There are numerous museums & landmarks remembering the events of the D day Landings including the evocative Pegasus Bridge near Ranville & the Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches, with special events & concerts taking place around D day anniversary itself on June 6th each year.
Even Paris is only 2 hours away.
