Help Us Develop A 5star Experience - Bright 2 Bedroom Panoramic Waterfront Home

Share in our blessing at the Westview House. We're Chris & Carolyn Mortensen and new to renting our spot, but we're excited for you to experience the place that we love so much. We bought this, our dream home in 2016 with great plans to enjoy the beach daily rain or shine, to play with our growing son Kaiden on the tidal sandbar late into the warm summer evenings and to dream big and plan upcoming adventures together on cool autumn nights over wine in the hot tub.

Well were we ever surprised when within a year of our new house purchase we both began to feel the call on our hearts to go and serve at a Young Life Camp in Princeton BC.

What'd we do? We moved!!! We're so excited to see where this big adventure will lead.

One day we'll be back on the Sunshine Coast as it truly does capture our hearts but for now we're making our dream home available for rent to special couples looking to refocus themselves and invest in their relationship.

You'll walk in the front door and first be struck by the amazing waterfront view. It kind of looks like you're on a boat because all you see is water. We are renting the main level of the house, during your stay you will have sole private access to the upper deck, lower patio, hot tub and beach access. The remainder of the house will NOT be occupied during your stay. Just a little time by the fire with a book or a paddle in our kayak on the still waters is all it will take to have you hooked.

The Sunshine Coast has a pace and charm all its own and our house is perfectly situated to make the most of your visit. It is situated a 4min drive from the Sechelt (see-sh-elt) town centre which can also be accessed by foot along the waterfront.

Make yourself at home and enjoy the cozy amenities that include full kitchen, full bathroom, master bedroom & living room with gas fireplace, TV, Netflix, Wifi, wireless music system. We also offer gas BBQ, Hot Tub, free Double Kayak, Stand Up Paddle Board, sun chaises, patio dining w/sun shade umbrellas and many more daily necessities.

When our family does manage to make it back for some personal R&R time, we have a number of favourite coastal activities that we enjoy doing together. If it happens to be on days of extreme tides, we will make sure to walk down the bay to the huge sand bar that is exposed at low tide. We explore the tidal pools, sink ourselves down into the "quicksand" and swing on the rope swing for sure! If its winter time we can be up on the groomed snowshoe & cross country ski trail at Dakota ridge in 30min. It's also just a fun place to sled and explore the coastal back country.

We hit the Basted Baker for our morning cup of joe along with a fresh pastry and stroll along the path to Snicket park to just chill on the tide sculpted rocks in the morning sun.

If we happen to be staying over on a Friday night we're often tempted by the kitchy "Mexican Night" dinner at Pebbles Restaurant. Far from authentic but good food and $5 fruity drinks are always hard to pass up:)

Ok. ok. I digress... back to the house. So, its really light and bright with open south west exposure and tons of daylight flooding in. What seemed at first to be a downfall of the house is that the sunset in the summer happens just out of sight from our living room. Bummer right? Well not really because what this does is forces us to fill our wine glass and head down to the water where the full and lingering sunset can taken in from water level with the reflections dancing off the waves. See!? Way better than watching from the living room.

About Chris Mortensen

Hey, it's Chris. So Carolyn and I grew up in Alberta but our paths never crossed until we were both fortunate enough to experience the Malibu Club community while working for Young Life through summers on the Sunshine Coast. Carolyn organized food and guided mountain trips for the Beyond Malibu hiking program and I ran the food services for the Malibu Club cranking out up to 1200 meals a day for the high school aged campers. We were both too busy to really take any time to connect romantically but finally seven years down the road, we both found ourselves back on the Sunshine Coast and sparks flew. ;)

Being Alberta transplants there was never really any doubt that BC would be our long term home. Who could really go back to winters at -25 degrees? Ummm, not us!

Once our time wrapped up at Malibu and we were happily married, we decided to make Sechelt the place to throw down roots. We bought our first house, had a beautiful baby boy (Kaiden) and got to work doing all those responsible grown up things that people tend to do.

All this time I would listen to Carolyn's "one day" dreams of being close to the water and enjoying time on the beach every day. "We're like a 5min walk from the water" I'd say, "What more do you want?" Well little did I truly realize that Carolyn is a woman of big dreams and even larger levels of drive.

Fast forward to 2016 and here we find ourselves in negotiations to purchase this waterfront property. Carolyn had viewed this house 5 years earlier and set her sights on making it happen. Well, through the modern miracle that is bank financing and the hard work of my lady we made the purchase official in Jan 2016 and moved in to our dream home. The place where we planned to grow old together... or so we thought.

Chris Mortensen purchased this house in 2016

Relaxing Couples Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for a 3 night weekend getaway with another couple. The house was so clean and had all the modern amenities, including a great fireplace, TV and most enjoyed was the hot tub. The view from the house was truly spectacular and we even saw some seals. We enjoyed the selection of board games (Jenga was a blast) and the local dining in town was incredible. The two bedrooms were spacious and were separated by a hallway for privacy. The owners of the house are very friendly and were helpful with all check in and check out instructions, how to get to the house, etc. We would definitely recommend staying at this property and we will return in the near future.

WONDERFUL

  • 5 of 5

A little slice of heaven, it doesn't get much better than sitting in the hot tub in the morning & watching the eagles soar overhead & then watching the stars at night from the hot tub, not to mention the breath taking view of the ocean right in front of you. Thank you Chris & Carolyn for sharing your beautiful home, everything was perfect. The house is incredibly clean & comfortable & you thought of every detail to make your guests stay a wonderful experience. Check in was incredibly easy & Leah was super helpful being just a quick text away if we needed anything. We will most definitely be back again & will recommend your home to friends & family.

A real Gem

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from our stay at Westview house. We were not ready to leave! Wonderful weather, fabulous view, and a very charming place.

The home had every detail covered; down to robes for hot tub use, kayak, paddle board and every convenience imaginable!

We enjoyed the entire area- took some hikes recommended, that were very fun and picturesque. We ate at the Lighthouse Pub which had great seafood and al fresco dining in a harbor; took an inexpensive Seaplane ride to a remote lodge for a to -die for lunch!

Sechelt has so much to offer. Oh, a killer Saturday market to top off our trip too!

We cannot say enough about this home and the entire area. A true winner all around- lasting memories!

This was exactly what was described, with owners that really care. They went above and beyond leaving a birthday card for my girlfriend. A beautiful, relaxing place that we will be back to visit. Thank you!!

What a view!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Westview House. Chris was an amazing host. He emailed back promptly and answered any questions I had with great detail. Check in and check out instructions were clear and concise. I especially liked having a detailed description of what the house contained. It made grocery shopping much easier. Leah was wonderfuly helpful. She always texted back quickly which was reassuring. The house itself was wonderful and exactly as described. The view from both decks were amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning tea/coffee looking out over ocean from the top deck. The hot tub was such a nice treat in the evenings after touring around all day. The traffic noise at night could potentially bother light sleepers but it wasn't a problem for us. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting Sechelt.
