About Virginia or David
The Cartner family has roots in the area that run deep. Their family has a love for the Appalachian Mountains that began with the Cartner Christmas Tree Farm. Family owned and operated in the Blue Ridge Mountains, founders, Sam and Margaret Cartner, have been growing high quality Fraser fir Christmas trees since 1959. We invite our guests to explore the nearby tree farm. Finding the farm is easy. All you have to do is walk out the door of the Rabbit Hill House, or the Bunkhouse to miles of grass trails that lead through the Christmas tree farm, all the way to a fire tower that’s located at an elevation of 4,400 feet. It’s there that you will find yourself surrounded by stunning mountain views. You’ll quickly understand why the Cartners call this area home. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we have and continue to do.

House was as advertised.
The house was fine for a base of operations. Central location allowed easy access to all the day trips we had planned. The only issues we encountered were more specific. We do pancakes for breakfast and wished there was a griddle in the kitchen so we could cook more than 3 pancakes at a time (not a big deal, it just took about an hour to feed our 3 kids and ourselves). Otherwise, we noticed that the 2 extra rooms were very cold in the morning as the doors were closed at night. The electric heaters in these rooms did not appear to be working. The one in the master worked phenomenally so that I would turn it off at around 5:00 in the evening so it would cool down enough to sleep. The rooms got warm enough during the day when the doors were open, but overnight without the heat flowing in through open doors, they were very cold. Our young children have a hard time staying under their covers and complained that it got cold. Again, not a major issue, just one to note. They slept in long sleeve pajamas so it was overall.
If you are interested in activities in this area, this house is very good with easy access to Boone, Beech Mountain, Grandfather Mountain and the surrounding area.
Thanks for the input and we will address the heater issues immediately. Happy New Year!
This house was very clean and cozy! I recommend it for a get away! Just not too much to do in the area!
