This apartment is just a few yards from the City Walls and Walmgate the most ancient of the gated entrances to the old walled city. It is possible to walk along the walls around most of the city centre and past York Minster one of Europe's oldest and most famous gothic cathedrals.

The apartment location is also close to the university campus and is just a minute's walk from two of York's best supermarkets - Waitrose and Morrisons. If you dont want to self-cater, the apartment is a mere five minute walk from some of York's finest restaurants including the Blue Bicycle, J Baker, and other celebrated restaurants in Fossgate.

The city centre, old shopping streets and The Minster can be reached on foot in 15-20 minutes.

About Olwen Glynn Owen

I bought this property for my son whilst he was at University in York. After he left I couldn't bear to sell the flat as I love it too much. I also wanted a good reason to keep on visiting York - my favourite city.

Lovely apartment

The apartment was easy to find and only a short walk from the centre of York. It was very clean and had a well equipped kitchen. Communication with owner and housekeeper was excellent. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return!

Great stay in a great apartment

Perfect place to stay for our family (2 adults & 2 children). The owner had thought of everything - even left a pint of milk in the fridge so we could have a drink as soon as we arrived. Apartment was clean and everything supplied. There was a Waitrose a 2min walk away for the essentials. Only a 10 min walk into town which was fantastic. Will definitely be back.

Delightful and convenient

Together with another couple, we stayed for a long weekend in May 2018. The apartment was exactly as described and was comfortable and spotlessly clean. Located just outside the city walls, it was easy and quick to walk into the city so we didn’t use our car at all during our stay.

The owner provided a very comprehensive information pack ahead of our trip which covered travel directions, a guide to the property and all its facilities plus useful tourist information. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return at some point.

Spacious property, great location

Plus points: Flat is pleasant: great location, only 2 minutes walk from the city walls, and 5 minutes to the lovely bars and restaurants of Walmgate. Plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 children for a long weekend stay.

Negatives: I did not appreciate being expected to strip beds and empty bins at the end of our stay. To my mind, the cost of this should be included in the stay.

Great apartment.

York is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the UK. The city itself is rich in history and contains some beautiful old buildings and historically-themed attractions, in particular, York Minster, one of the finest Gothic cathedrals in Northern Europe with stunning stained glass windows. Another ancient and beautiful cathedral nearby is Selby Abbey.

York is also home to The Shambles and Stonegate, medieval streets with many fabulous independent shops, boutiques, and cafes. Talking of cafes, no one should miss a visit to Betty's.

Yorkshire has some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK and is a joy to tour. Other places of interest include Harrogate and the seaside resorts of Bridlington and Scarborough.

York holds many festivals throughout the year. To name a few there is an Early Music Festival in July, the National Book Fair and a food festival in September. York's famous mystery plays are performed each year in August at the city's museum gardens. York race course holds several events throughout the year. York also holds a Christmas Market which is hugely popular given the atmospheric setting that the city provides.

There are plenty of cultural activities in the area and many places to visit including historical attractions and some wonderful shopping, including Designer Outlet stores. Further afield Yorkshire has some great walking country. This location offers scope for as active or relaxing a holiday as you choose!
