Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, great outdoor living, 2 miles from Beech Mountain Resort.

Large gently sloping lot with a creek running on either side . High end finishes: granite counters, stainless steel appliances, gas cook top stove, hand-scraped antique finish hard wood floors, drystack stone fireplace. The open loft overlooks lower living area with fireplace and big screen tv.

The comfortable, cozy, bright bedrooms with king and queen size beds can accommodate four, however the open loft overlooks the great room and is spacious enough for use as an additional living space (we have an additional king size mattress that can be placed on the loft for two additional guests on the open loft). The master suite on main floor is furnished with a king bed, full bath, gas fireplace, large screen TV, and private deck leading to backyard fire-pit.

Upstairs bedroom 1 has queen bed and windows that open to the sounds of the creek. Upstairs bedroom 2 is furnished with bunk beds; a twin upper bed and full size lower bunk. Upstairs can also accommodate a king mattress on the open loft if needed. Upstairs bedrooms share a full bathroom.

Downstairs you will find open living area with cozy stone fireplace and a large screen TV, beautifully appointed kitchen, dining area, half bath and laundry room. A wide, covered deck spans the width of the home for year round enjoyment. We love the outdoors and have entertained many friends around the backyard fire-pit.

About Erin Burgess

We are adventure seekers and have loved every moment of living on Beech Mountain! We were attracted to this home for many reasons, but the large fire-pit in the back yard was a big sell for us! Travel is our favorite past time and we are so thankful we have such a wonderful home and community to come back to in Beech Mountain.

Large house, long drive

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here while vending at Grandfather Mountain. The drive was longer than expected, but House was larger than we thought and well appointed. We had to contact owner about many light bulbs being out, perhaps there had been a power surge or something as we had to replace four major lights up the stairs and in master suite. Don’t expect air conditioning either - wall thermostat has an A/C setting, but there is no A/C. It was unusually hot in the mountains that week, but we opened windows and turned on the fans and the house cooled down quickly. I recommend this house if you want luxury on Beech Mountain. Unlike other houses we have rented, this has no fabulous views over the mountains, but we weren’t there for a view!

Overall, I felt it had too many drawbacks. Most of our family was unhappy with the comfort .

  • 3 of 5

We learned to ask many specific questions.

Our host posted all things correctly on the website but much was left out. Her response time was good, but her solutions very displeasing. -No air conditioning means we never got the house below 77 degrees before 2am. Upstairs bedroom #3 was intolerably hot so we took mattresses out to porch.

Response was that the cleaning people assured the owner that it was comfortable when they left. 80 degrees indoors daytime is not comfortable.

Hole in bedroom screen - made by an animal requires shutting out any cool air in master bedroom. We had to supply 3 fans . None were offered.

You will smell mold in master bath. Everyone gets only 1 towel so you will be doing wash - laundry soap not supplied.

Too much stuff in the fridge. Whose ? I wanted room for my family's food and drinks. Fridge needs water filter replaced.

You must take garbage / trash in your car daily to a central location. Not pretty.

How bout a swim ? The ad should tell you that the shared pool costs $100 per person per week !!

Some people couldn't get their car up the very steep driveway. Grandma fell hiking it to front door.

We failed to ask about our wheelchair. Our handicapped 11 yr old had to be carried up the hill and down.

Resetting the modem should not require renter to pick a lock.

The place is nicely decorated and we saw deer in the yard every day.

I wish I could be more kind but I need to be honest.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. Preparation and communication are key to success (neither of which was done prior to arrival). We have addressed the water filter with our cleaning crew and it is being changed (note this issue was not brought to us at the time of stay). Additionally, there are 4 ceiling fans throughout the home which should be used and the central heat turned off. Property description does not indicate A/C so that was lack of preparation for not reading. Laundry detergent is not provided as we have had it stolen in the past, furthermore we do not indicate in our property description that this is something we provide. Trash must be taken to the recycle center to avoid feeding bears, hurting local wildlife and trashing the mountain which we love so dearly. We have had potential guests read the description of our property and submit inquiries regarding any questions/concerns they may have had before sending a booking request (which this renter neglected to do; simply requested to book without any communication). Certainly, had the property description been read and the renters communicated any questions with us prior to booking they would have had all the recourses necessary to make an informed decision and have a successful trip. ALL prior reviews have been 5 STAR because renters have read about our property, prepared for their trip, and communicated with us effectively. With any preparation and communication we could have let this renter know that this home would not have met their special needs especially regarding their handicapped family member. We pride ourselves on timely and effective communication which can be seen in the many 5 star reviews. However, this also requires the guests to have a firm understanding of their personal needs and the property's accommodations. This renter also had additional guests than originally indicated which affects the amount of towels available for use. Additionally, our home was left in a disappointing state with broken items and trash throughout at the time of departure. We certainly communicated effectively and timely which seemed to address the renter's concerns at the time. The Beech Mountain Club allows us to have unattended guests use our membership to access their facilities for a fee...which is also indicated as an additional fee on our property description. Overall, these renters did not communicate questions/concerns prior to booking their stay in our home.

Our BEST VRBO vacation!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about this property and our family vacation. We were 2 adults and 2 of our 3 teens. The house is gorgeous. Well stocked, well organized, clean and magnificently decorated.

During our weeklong stay, we did the Virginia Creeper Bike Trailer, we toured AppState, we went tubing in Todd, NC, went shopping in Blowing Rock and ate in Banner Elk, Beech Mountain and Boone. Everything we wanted to do was within a reasonable driving distance for us. I will say, I had to take a dramamine each morning before hitting the local roads ;)

We did not use the firepit but it looked awesome. We did use the kitchen and the grill on the porch. I wish I could have taken the master bed home with us it was so comfortable.

Many, many deer in and around the yard each day. Incredibly peaceful surroundings, no ambient noise from neighbors etc.

We highly recommend this property and Beech Mountain in general for a summer vacation. It was everything we wanted and needed!

Just Right

  • 5 of 5

Loved this house. Very comfortable, and well equipped. We had 7 of us there, and never felt cramped. It's just a few minutes from Ski Beech, so very convenient. The owner was super nice, and very quick to respond with any questions. Would definitely return.

Nice house worked really well for the 5 of us, 3 small children. The master was amazing with its own fireplace and little deck.
