Perched alongside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with a private trail that leads from its back door directly to the park, Mountain Top offers awe-inspiring views. And you don’t need to be out on the porch or the upper deck to revel in the scenery. A panoply of picture windows let you gaze out at the mountains, the woodlands, and the boundless skies from just about every room in the 2-bedroom home.
The living room, for instance, features an entire wall of windows looking out onto the mountains and flooding the space with sunlight during the day. When you’re not gazing out from the comfort of the roll-arm leather sofa, you can curl up in an armchair with a book or your tablet (Mountain Top has free WiFi), or you can watch a movie on the TV, which has cable and a DVD player. The room includes a stereo system with a CD player, as well as a library of discs to listen to.
The eat-in kitchen is impressively well equipped. Along with a table that easily seats 4, it’s chock-full of appliances, cookware, and tableware. There’s ample storage too, so you can stock up on groceries at the start of your stay, rather than having to waste precious time heading back and forth to the supermarket. And when you’re craving barbecue, you can take advantage of the grill just outside.
Mountain Top has one bedroom on the main floor and the 2nd in the loft. Each includes a wall of windows facing the Smokies so that you can open your eyes in the morning to the sight of mist rising over the peaks. The main floor’s bedroom includes a queen-size bed and a jetted tub large enough to accommodate 2 people. The tub is set alongside the windows, perfect for relishing a romantic late-night soak with your special someone.
The upstairs bedroom features a king-size bed. The room sits alongside the upper deck, which is furnished with a table and chairs. Head outside early in the morning to watch the sunrise, or slip out before bed for a nightcap and a spot of stargazing. Should you have additional guests, they can sleep on the loft’s 2 futons, which open into twin-size beds.
Mountain Top includes a full bathroom on each floor as well. Tucked in a closet of the upstairs bathroom you’ll find a washer and dryer, so you can pack lighter than usual. In fact, you don’t need to bring any towels or bedding at all; we’ll supply them all.
Like the rest of Mountain Top, the porch has been designed to make the most of the spectacular scenery. The porch swing is an especially inviting perch for listening to sparrows and larks greet the day. And when you return from hiking, fishing, rafting, or skiing, you’ll want to make a beeline to the outdoor hot tub; its massaging jets of water are sure to revitalize your weary muscles.
Mountain Top’s proximity to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park makes it a dream getaway for anyone who looks forward to exploring the park’s trails, waterfalls, and historic cabins. That’s not the only attraction near the home, however. Despite its private locale, Mountain Top is only a few miles from Bent Creek Golf Course, designed by Masters and British Open champion Gary Player. And when you visit during the summer, you’ll have free access to a nearby swimming pool.
What’s more, Mountain Top is less than a half-hour from downtown Gatlinburg. That’s where you’ll find the Guinness World Records Museum, an aquarium, thrill rides, and the tram that carries you over the town to Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park and Ski Area, among other attractions.
Then again, the landscape surrounding Mountain Top is so glorious and tranquil, you might want to spend most of your time relaxing right there. And why not: It’s your vacation, so enjoy it however you want. First, though, you need to make your reservation—do it today, before someone beats you to it.
Please remember that Gatlinburg and the surrounding area is a mountain town with snow and icy conditions during the winter. Inclement weather can affect driving and parking conditions regardless of the property, driveway, or roads. We strongly recommend four-wheel drive and/or chains during the winter months.
