Overview

About the property

2 Bdrm, 2 Bath with Living and Family Room, Hot Tub, Dog Friendly!

Relax among the redwoods at the Birds Nest Cottage. You'll be tucked along a hillside in the neighborhood of Rio Nido - surrounded by natural landscaping, wildlife (including birds) and the majestic redwoods, striking the perfect balance of sun and shade.

Birds Nest Cottage is an ideal place to unwind and enjoy the stars in the private hot tub under the towering Redwoods. Or curl up with a good book near the woodstove and enjoy a glass of local pinot noir or bubbly - Korbel is just minutes down the road.

Cathedral ceilings and windows throughout the living room and bedrooms invite the outside in for a true "in the redwoods" experience. The two bedrooms, two baths, and large family room with a queen size sofa bed are decorated with delightful mix of contemporary furnishings and antiques with a nod to the bird's nest theme. Each bedroom features ample closet space, multiple pillows, comforters and high-grade linens.

Modern comforts include high-speed wifi, HD flat Screen TVs with full cable, DVD players and iPod/iPhone docking station. There are lots of books and games for kids and adults, on cozy evenings or rainy days. There's even a game table!

The kitchen is well-stocked with all the essentials (cookware, spices, olive oil, etc.), to make cooking a feast fun and easy. The adjoining dining area seats up to six or you can dine alfresco on the patio and use the chef style Charbroil grill. Whatever your pleasure, this is the perfect retreat.

The Russian River offers a year-round retreat from the city hustle and bustle. The house is just steps away from community-run pee wee mini golf (summer only), year-round playground, dog run, tennis court, pool (at the Rio Nido Roadhouse - day or week passes available - summer only), and small beach. You're a short car or bike ride to downtown Guerneville and Johnson's Beach where you can rent canoes, kayaks, paddleboats and inner tubes. Or take a quick drive to the Pacific Ocean and Armstrong Woods.

About Russian River Vacation Homes

We are Russian River Vacation Homes, a part of D&G Equity Management, Inc., a family owned and locally owned/operated property management company.

Our Story:

In 1980, D&G founders and owners Michael and Patty saw a need in the area for habitable, affordable housing. At that time, many of the little cabins along the Russian River, originally built as summer cabins, were unsuitable for year-round occupancy. D&G assisted property owners with fixing up and renting their cabins. As the largest property management company in western Sonoma County, D&G Equity Management continues to be a staple in the Russian River community.

Russian River Vacation Homes is an off-shoot of D&G. One fine day in 1985, Michael's client, Bob, asked "Hey Mike, can you rent my cabin out just for the week or weekend instead of by the month?" Michael said "Sure!" and Russian River Vacation Homes was born. As renting vacation rentals became more popular, Russian River Vacation Homes grew into a full-time business with its own office. Today, Russian River Vacation Homes professionally manages over 60 high-quality vacation rentals.

We strive to make each and every stay the best one ever. If you have any questions or concerns about reserving or staying with us, please don't hesitate to contact us! We are here to help.

Why Russian River Vacation Homes chose Guerneville

Historic Rio Nido had an amazing canopy of redwoods, and so much to offer! Russian River access, a playground, dog park, tennis courts, and more!

What makes this house unique

This is a great launching point for your summer adventure! Walk to a playground, tennis courts, and seasonal mini golf course! The Russian River is also a short walk away, along with a seasonal pool at The Rio Nido Roadhouse! You can also walk to Stumptown Brewery!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a lovely stay at this home last month. It's charming, clean and very homey. It's a peaceful neighborhood; close to pee-golf. We had six adults and we were extremely comfortable during our extended weekend stay. Spent the afternoon in the Russian River, so the hot tub was a plus after an afternoon of canoe and rafting. We enjoyed breakfasts and dinners on the deck. It's also close to lots of wineries; spent our last afternoon visiting some on the way home. We appreciated all the information provided in the welcome binder. We will definitely be returning.

Perfect for a weekend in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Looked for a nice and quiet place to spend a few days on the Russian River with a friend's family, and Bird's Nest was perfect. Great location, nice space, and of course a hot tub nestled among the steep backyard trees.

Lovely home, needs some updates for the winter

  • 3 of 5

Pros:

-clean and comfy beds, extra blankets

-hot tub is easy, clean, hot and peaceful

-nice for kids, with children's potty, children's books, and a newer park right across the street

-nice for dogs, with dog park across street

-1/4 mile down road is a great brewery and coffee shop right on the Russian River, and less than a mile or so to downtown Guerneville

-very close to Armstrong Redwoods state park and good hiking

Room for Improvement:

-for staying in the winter, the basement is basically not usable because it's so cold. the pellet heater is "inoperable" and the only heat source is a space heater which never could get higher than 52 degrees down there. very. cold. and is half the space in the home.

-the fridge light didn't work until our last day, and the grill stopped working on night two, as we had our entire dinner on it and ready to cook.

-missing cutting board in kitchen and cut my hand on a cereal bowl with a long chip in it

-I would recommend a baby gate to block the stairs if staying with toddlers, because the staircase is pretty steep/scary for toddlers

Could use some general updates for the $$$ (almost $1000)

Clean, quiet, perfect for five-six people

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for five to six people and two dogs to spend a long weekend. I highly recommend this place for those traveling with dogs—the road has little traffic and is great for walks and there is a nice, clean dog park right across the street. Overall, the house is on a nice quiet street, and everything inside is clean and cozy. I’d definitely stay in this house again!

Cozy, casual, well situated

  • 5 of 5

Cozy and casual. Perfect for a few friends getting away to cycle and relax. The front porch was great for sitting in the shade in the afternoon. Good water pressure. Very comfortable. Lots of helpful instructions and little touches. Would be a good spot for dogs & kids (though we didn't have any). The street is quiet and has a nice playground and dog park. We even biked over the BIG hill out the back way (the direct route to River Road is flat and easy for cyclists).

Quaint - needs better ventilation

  • 3 of 5

Overall a nice enough place. They tried to dress it up a bit with new granite on old cabinets in kitchen which looks good. Place was hot when we got there and windows don't provide a lot of cross breeze. You need a stick to prop most of them open. Didn't use basement playroom at all as was very musty smelling. A whole house fan would be a big help to vent the spaces after being closed-up. No dishwasher and the dishes we took out to use were still dirty so we had to wash them. I would have carried the nice new flooring in kitchen throughout the floor as there is stained carpet when you go in. Outside front table is very rickety. The location is nice with community garden and dog park very close. Also pee wee golf too. Could be really nice with a few more upgrades.
