About the property

3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 16

Welcome to our home listing. The main reason the rental price for this executive home is so low compared to similar properties is because the two owners live onsite. Please consider this fact when evaluating potential homes in the Grand Junction area. We realize that many VRBO customers seek out an empty vacation rentalThe Tumbleweed Guest Ranch is a working horse & hay farm. Formerly it was a large alpaca and llama ranch for 15 years. We have completely remodeled the home in 2017 to accommodate visitors by purchasing brand new beds, linens, large 4K TVs, chairs, tables & decorations. The three bedrooms reflect distinct themes:

The Lodge: This room is a master suite with a private bathroom. It has a king size log bed, full-size sleeper sofa, ceiling fan, and a 55" TV with premium cable, Netflix, Amazon & Hulu streaming services as well as a 4K Roku box.

The Music Room: This room has a new queen size bed and 50" 4K TV. A hand-painted portrait of Bob Dylan hangs above the bed on a royal purple wall. A number of posters, album covers & the owner's personal rock concert photos adorn the wall. The Music Room shares a Jack & Jill bathroom with the Canyon Room.

The Canyon Room: This bedroom features a new queen bed, 50" 4K TV, a Zen water fountain, two large sitting chairs,, & photos of the American southwest. The Jack & Jill bathroom is shared with the Music Room.

All three rooms have excellent panoramic views of Grand Mesa & Mt. Garfield to the east. There is a snack room upstairs with complimentary Keurig coffee, tea, bottled water & snacks. Coke/ Coke Zero is available too.

The second floor is entirely private and for your exclusive use. Bonita and I live on the first floor in one bedroom. We maintain an office and use the Man Cave for entertainment. The guests will have full use of the kitchen, living, dining & gathering rooms, wet bar, laundry room and half of the garage. You may also enjoy the backyard patio with seating for 10 people.

About Steve McKinley

Steve is a former military brat who lived in several locations in the U.S.A. as well as Germany and Greece. He started his career in telecommunications in the USAF, then worked for ROLM, IBM & Siemens. He has been self-employed at Tumbleweed Telecom since 2003. His other business endeavors include live theater and event videography with Tumbleweed Media Productions and general farm work maintaining the six acre ranch. His hobbies include landscape and night sky photography, music collecting, cheering on the Broncos, and concert-going.

Bonita is a transplant from the Midwest. She loves to travel and is especially fond of London. She enjoys the photography trips with Steve. Her watercolors are filled with symbolism from a view of otherworldly spirit connecting every day life to the magic of nature. This summer she is planning to paint some fun animal characters that make Tumbleweed Ranch their home on the barn and carriage house. Her career was in Criminal Justice. She also has a master's degree in counseling and her approach is one of transpersonal psychology.

Steve McKinley purchased this farmhouse in 1994

Why Steve McKinley chose Grand Junction

In the 1990's Steve wanted a place that did not crowd him and his family into the neighbors' backyards. Privacy and open space created by the little ranches in the neighborhood was perfect. Steve wanted a view of the natural beauty of the Grand Valley that would not be stolen by future developments pushing up rooftops instead of Mt. Garfield and the Grand Mesa that cradled the small acreage of pasture and fruit trees. The pastures meant he could have stock animals (which he did have an Alpaca herd) or leave it and bale hay for sale. The ranch with its farm house and acreage is the quintessential place for providing a quiet, safe, and creative potential for all its visitors.

What makes this farmhouse unique

There is magic in "little" and little-known places in the world. At the little Tumbleweed Guest Ranch you will find such magic both in and out of the farm house. Refresh your mind and body sipping your morning coffee under the shade of the chokecherry tree while the mourning doves coo, coo, coo around the feeders in the orchard. Be surprised by the delight of the "wild" in the wildflower garden. Noise melts away and the windmill flutters with a slight breeze in the early morning as the sun awaken. Capture the spontaneity and fun of home cooking an old family favorite casserole or try a new creation that enhances what once was just a normal daily meal. The kitchen is fully equipped and stocked with dozens of spices, seasonings and grilling condiments for your personal favorite dishes. If music is your refuge, no matter what kind, Steve has 180,000 songs to select from and available for your enjoyment. Art is all about and it adds an expressive tonic of escape to your restful get-a-way or special occasion. B.Y.O.B. and enjoy the amenities of the gathering room Greek marble bar. Music, Art, Nature is here to inspire you or your children to enjoy the "little" ranch and its big, roomy spaces inside and out.

The best for groups!

  • 5 of 5

Outstanding hosts! Steve and his wife made our team of 12 feel right at home! Spacious home- everyone had a bed- and the kitchen was great for cooking big meals. Nice, quite, and safe location, but still close to all the fun in GJ! My teammates loved the horses out back too!

Great Location

  • 3 of 5

Nice home and great location. Plenty of room for parking. Steve and Bonita where very friendly.

A refrigerator for your guest (only) is needed, didn't like sharing the space with the homeowners. The ice machine on the refrigerator was not working, and the master suite bedroom had a loud mystery water noise during the night. Also, you need to let your guest know ahead of time, that you have pets that live in the house. Overall, we made it work for us.

Wow what beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful and spacious house. Very comfortable beds and very nice everything. There was 9 of us staying there, and it was an excellent choice in Grand Junction.

Steve and Bonita were excellent hosts. I would love to stay here again when we visit GJ. What a great choice for a larger group - very economical and way above expectations.
