About the property

Private apartment w/rear deck near Garden District, WIFI, 40" TV, Central AC

Superb location, a short 2 1/2 blocks from St Charles Ave and the beautiful historic Garden District and hundreds of breathtaking mansions. St Charles Ave is also home to the uptown streetcar (trolley) line, which takes you to the French Quarter or way uptown to the university/Audubon Park area for only $1.25 per trip. You won't need a car at this fantastic location, but if you have one, the street parking is free. Magazine Street, and its endless restaurants and boutiques is a gorgeous 7 block walk from the house. Fresh Market is 5 blocks from the house, as is Rite Aid. Gracious Bakery and coffee, at 6th and St Charles Ave, is just a 3 block walk from the house. World famous Commander's Palace restaurant is just a 5 block walk. Walkability and location are the best assets of this location.

About Joanne Johnson

I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, and graduated from Villanova (finance) and Philadelphia University (MBA International Business.) My career in banking allowed me to live in many great places, including 10 years in San Diego CA, Portland Oregon, Washington DC, and Florida. I vacationed in New Orleans for 15 years before buying a home here. It is an exciting and always interesting place to live, with endless choices for entertainment and dining.

Joanne Johnson purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Joanne Johnson chose New Orleans

This studio efficiency has everything you need to have a perfect New Orleans experience. The location, adjacent to the Garden District, and the St Charles Ave Streetcar is a perfect home-base. The cozy courtyard style deck provides a private outdoor area for cocktail before you head out on the town. It is also a beautiful place to have coffee in the morning or use internet.

What makes this apartment unique

By far, the best thing about this property is the location. I walk through the Garden District every day, and always see something new. I walk over to Magazine Street, window shop a bit, chat with people at the cafe tables. The atmosphere really can't be beat. If I want to meet up with friends in the French Quarter at night, I just walk a couple of blocks to the St Charles Streetcar, and enjoy the relaxing 3 mile ride downtown. My car stays safely at home. I don't have to worry about parking. I don't have to be concerned about drinking and driving. The streetcar runs 24 hours, but after midnight it only passes about ever 45 minutes. If I don't feel like waiting that long, an UBER or cab ride is only about $10 and 5 minutes. City Blue bikes are walking distance (St Charles and Jackson.)

Guestbook comments from the owner

This cute house made a great base to explore the city. Everything was new and spotlessly clean. We loved the private deck and enjoyed our coffee out there in the morning. Lots of good places to eat are within walking distance. We did take advantage of the streetcar since we had taken a cab from the airport. It was very smooth and easy. We will book again next time we are able to get down to New Orleans!

New Orleans in the Summertime

  • 4 of 5

The location appeared to be a little troublesome upon arrival but turned out to be near some wonderful areas. The space is nice and spacious for 2 people. The furnishing are nice and comfortable. The owner is wonderful, she came to greet us both upon arrival and departure. She was always available if we needed anything. She gave us helpful tips to navigate the area better and provided suggested trip ideas. There is an adorable neighborhood bar across the street to get a late night snack or drink.

Great place, excellent location!

  • 5 of 5

We made our first trip to NOLA and stayed here 5/24/18 to 5/29/18. Upon arrival, Joanne greeted us and gave recommendations for tours, food and how to best travel the city. This little home is setup with a bed and living area as you enter. The bathroom is nice with a huge tub (recommend visiting “Lush” on Magazine St. to get some specialty bathtub bombs and soaps). The home was well equipped with a large mini fridge, coffee pot, kitchen utensils and the basics for preparing easy food and drinks. The private patio is fully enclosed and fun for morning coffee or evening drinks. Directly across the street is an awesome little Tiki bar that I highly recommend.

The location is incredible being on the edge of the Garden District. Just a couple of blocks from St. Charles Street where you can pick up the streetcar and go just about anywhere in the city. A few more blocks and you hit Magazine Street famously known for food, bars and shopping. We enjoyed walking through the Garden District and admiring the old houses with porches, pillars, shutters and gas lamps. The neighborhood is safe, quiet and friendly, so this home worked out perfect since we like to ‘visit’ the nightlife but not particularly ‘stay’ in the nightlife.

Joanne is a great host, always very responsive and happy to answer questions and make recommendations, but also provides full privacy. I highly recommend staying here if you are visiting NOLA! Thanks Joanne, and best of luck on your movie sets!

absolutely loved this place

  • 5 of 5

Joanne was a great host! The property was clean and comfortable with all of the necessary amenities. We were less than two minutes from the quarter and even closer to the Garden District. We were two blocks from the Lafayette Cemetery (1 & 2) and 2 blocks from the St Charles Trolley stop. This place is perfect for one/two adults who are looking for an authentic New Orleans experience. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks, Joanne!

Comfortable and convenient

  • 5 of 5

Thank you, Joanne, for a great stay. This rental is located near the St Charles Street trolley, shopping and dining on Magazine, and just a few minutes by trolley or uber/lyft from French Quarter. Just the right size for two, there's a great back deck on which to enjoy coffee or nightcaps. Joanne was very helpful, and the umbrellas came in handy on a particularly stormy day. We happened to be there during the French Quarter Fest and that was a blast! We will be back.

Property is located in the perfect location to explore the city. Adjacent to the Garden District, and less than 3 blocks from the Historic St Charles Streetcar line, vacationing is smooth and easy. Dozens of restaurants, boutiques and pubs are an easy walk from the house. Magazine Street is filled with trendy stores, antique shops, and other unique offerings. Leave the car at home and hop on the streetcar, which runs 24/7 and takes you directly to the French Quarter, Frenchman Street, the Superdome/sports arena, the central business district, Mardi Gras World, City Park Museums and kayaking, the WWII Museum, and so much more. Or go in the other direction on the streetcar and hop off at Audubon Park, The Oak Street entertainment District, Tulane/Loyola Universities. The ride on the streetcar is an event by itself. View the mansions that line the entire route while sitting on antique benches with the windows open. There is so much to do in this city that it is truly impossible to get bored.
