Cozy Home - Great Neighborhood - Central Location - Hot Tub!

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,015 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

2 bedroom, 2 bathroom in North Park / University Heights

Stay with us and avoid the crowds, rowdiness, and traffic that you will find at the beach. This is a historic, central, and hip neighborhood that is surrounded by tall palm trees in San Diego. Quick car or Uber/Lyft access to the most popular locations. There are restaurants and coffee shops in walking distance.

It is a very comfortable 2 bed/2 bath house. It is an addition to the original home buit in 1922. There is only one shared wall with the front duplex. Both bedrooms are upstairs. One full bath downstairs and the second full bath is upstairs. There is a private fenced yard with four person hottub Jacuzzi.

The home is located in the North Park/University Heights area. It is one block north of the wonderful Adams Avenue, and about 1 mile from the heart of North Park & Normal Heights.

There is also a private yard with a hybrid parking spot. Just enter through the pedestrian gate, slide the vehicle gate open and park inside. If you do not wish to use the spot or if you have more than one car, there is plenty of street parking immediately across from the duplex. Very rarely is parking an issue.

100% solar powered home!

The master bedroom has a King size bed, while the 2nd bedroom has a queen size bed.

There is a laundry room with full size washer and dryer located on the porch next to the entrance of the home. It is stocked with laundry detergent and fabric softener for your use.

If you have a pet, we do ask guests to treat their pets with a monthly flea-control treatment in advance of arrival. We also ask that dogs not be left unattended at home, unless they are crated.

Gardener and spa maintenance guys come every other week.

A/C window units and ceiling fans in both bedrooms.

High-speed WiFi, Netflix and Sling Cable TV are in the living room. Sling TV in the master bed room as well.

The kitchen and bathrooms are stocked with linens and all the supplies you need.

The upstairs shower has a water saving device which automatically turns the flow off once the water has gotten hot. The way to use it is to turn on the shower before you are ready to get in. Once it turns off a minute or two later that means the water is hot. Pull chain or turn the small valve on the shower head to make the water resume and then you can take your shower. It won't turn off again.

Mixed feelings

  • 3 of 5

I am an avid traveler using this and other sites to book lodging; I understand not all stays are created equal. Having said that, some just result in mixed feelings like this one.

The Good

(1) The area; the unit is generally close to everything including several coffee shops, bars, and cafes

(2) The front neighbors are great (see The Bad); keep in mind this is a duplex-like structure, you're in the back unit.

(3) Parking - the unit has its own private parking spot

(4) Generally good layout

(5) Clean

(6) Early check-in

The Bad

(1) The neighbors have a dog which barks... at times a lot during the day if you are around.

(2) The owner will apologize but not really do anything to remedy situations. (a) we had no heat, he said it doesn't work (no offer for space heater, blankets, etc.); (b) the pictures show a BBQ, there is none - no offer to get one -- heck it is a private yard, why not have one; (c) the pictures show a hammock, there is none. Note: yes, I know the ad says the pictures are not current and they are not accurate – you've had time: update them and the ad itself should state what IS missing -- I personally don't care about the paint color change, but I do care about things taken away like a BBQ; (d) there was no corkscrew (minor but not when you have wine ready to drink) - hence meeting nice front neighbors; owner should have offered to get one or refund me to get one (you'll need one) -- you know, do a little thing like that.

In summary, it is an OK place. However, I wouldn't rent there again. Not b/c of the place (though the dog barking was a bit of a challenge at times) but b/c I felt the owner doesn't yet understand how to manage for the renter's issues. Maybe with time he will get better at this.

Lastly, change the pictures so goodness sake -- snap them with iPhone if nothing else until you get professional ones taken. And try to step up the service and immediately help resolve issues instead of just saying "Thanks for your feedback".

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure hosting Diane and her guests this past weekend. She used the automated check in process with ease and treated my house as if it were her own. I would gladly welcome her back anytime without hesitation. Thank you Diane.
