for our Five Star Villa at the beautiful Mauni Lani resort
Our three bedroom corner townhouse has a private first floor master furnished with a California King bed and office space. We are located a short walk to the famous Fairmont Orchid Hotel. The hotel's five restaurants can be used by the public. If you drive down for a meal they offer complimentary valet parking.
The beach at the Hotel is "Kid Safe," ; it is protected by a reef which also provides an excellent place for snorkeling. The Beach is open to the public, as are all the beaches on the island. The hotel features two beach side bars just steps from the ocean, providing the perfect place to watch the sunset and count the green sea turtles that come upon the beach to rest for the night. They are protected so you can look but do not touch.
A short drive away is our private Beach Club with its own restaurant and bar. Surf boards, stand up paddle boards and snorkel equipment can be rented for reasonable fees. A reef just to the left of the fine sand beach is great for snorkeling and is just steps from all the other beech fun.
Just down the street from the Villa are the "Shops at Mauna Lani" including a full service grocery store priced for and used guests and locals. Fine dining restaurants including Ruth Chris And Tommy Bahama are in this same plaza. Shops that feature Island Coffee and Smoothies made from local ingredients are also located here.
Stop by on Tuesday and check out the schedule for the free Polynesian cultural shows. The Thursday evening show features fire dances and authentic performances showcasing Polynesian culture. You could even get picked to show your own hula skills.
The villa is a five-minute drive to six award winning golf courses and the best sandy and protected beaches in Hawaii. Hapuna has-been voted "Best Big Islands Beach" and is only a fifteen minute drive away.
Drive ten minutes in the other direction and you will find your camera for photos that look like they came from a postcard. Probably the most photographed Beach on the island.
Varied shopping and dining can be found at the King's Shops the Queen Market Place and at the Marriott Hotel just before you get to A-Bay.

About Paul Watkins
We are from the Chicago area. We split our retirement time between Chicago, Walnut Creek in the East Bay and here on the Big Island.
Paul Watkins purchased this Townhome in 2007
Why Paul Watkins chose Puako
We walk to world class resorts, shopping and dinning and live in a lovely park like setting just steps to the pool but far enough away that we don't hear others having fun.
What makes this Townhome unique
Our Windows and Lanai are surrounded by a wall of baby palm trees that filter the light coming in and at the same time provide privacy. Just past the palms is a three acre park like setting with beautiful flowers on a tree lined path that leads to the pool and to the hot tube. We are close to the pool but never hear the pool activities as the pool is blocked by other units in our building. Access to our gated private beach club is included with your stay and is only a short ten minute drive. Here you will find a white sand beach in a protected cove ideal for Children. Lots There are lots of beach chairs and even some cabanas that are assigned daily on a first come first serve basis. Bring a picnic lunch or dine in the private on site restaurant with world class views serving fresh island meals at reasonable cost. There is a beach house where you can rent bigger beach toys; surf boards, stand up paddle boards and kayaks. (Instructions Included) There is also a concession that arranges dive tours that leave from our beach. While you are at the beach club be sure to wander back a few steps to the paths that wind through the fresh water ponds and gardens leading to the secluded beaches and the beautiful Mauna Lani Hotel with its fine restaurants and world class gardens. If you would play tennis you start your day with a low cost tennis clinic at the Fairmont Orchid. To make arrangements call the hotel ask for the tennis provilian or stop over and ask for Rudy and tell him you are friends with Sue Ann from Chicago. Rudy also has Bikes for rent. There are free Polynesian shows nearby. Monday and Thursday offer authentic productions featuring local dance companies at the mall in back of the foodland. Thursdays feature the dangerous fire dance as well as Hula performed by local dance clubs. Times are posted at the foodland and do change from time to time. Just two miles to the south Is the famous Waikaloa Resort with Two full service Malls

We love the private beach club and the lunch at Mauna Lani golf club
This is our favorite place to stay, location convenient to great beaches, the swimming pool and shopping
We are a Swedish family of four that spent two weeks during Christmas at this wonderful property. The house is very spacious and well kept and is equipped with everything you will need. There is a lovely lanai with a grill which we used a lot. The surroundings are green and calm with the pool close by. The pool is great and not at all crowded. There are lots of beaches near by. We usually went to Honoma beach or to the Beach club. The snorkling at the Beach club is even better than that at the snorkling tour at the Cook monument.
John has been very supportive and all our questions both before and during our stay has got answers promptly (thankyou Gabrielle).
We can really recommend this property and hope to be able to return someday.
Regards from the Svanberg family
We I was so happy and pleased that you enjoyed your vacation to the big Island.
We hope that you return soon!
Huge, CLEAN, loaded condo!!
Sooo glad we chose this unit! This is a refreshing, nicely updated condo. Bamboo flooring throughout the entire ground floor (no damp, musty carpet or cold tile). The furniture is modern (I'm not a fan of the super uncomfortable wicker furniture every other condo in Hawaii has). The place has 2 levels and is extremely spacious. Plenty of room for our party of 4 adults and 3 kids.
Extremely well appointed, including great snorkel gear, beach gear, spices, a pack n play, and even a Vit-a-Mix!
The Mauna Lani beach (the resort's beach) might be better than any other beach we visited on the island (all things considered)! Great snorkeling, sheltered little bay, uncrowded, white sands beach! Close and easy access... Only down side is it's not walking distance. In fact, not much is walking distance (except the Fairmont orchid hotel which has an ok beach, a good beachside restaurant, and access to the beautiful shoreline trail... amazing sunsets!).
The Fairways are beautiful, secure, quiet condos with easy driving access to services in a nice, central location on the island (convenient home base for wherever you want to take an excursion). However, if you're looking for a place with an ocean view or from which you can walk to the beach and shops, then you should look at different condo complexes).
Paul was quick to respond and was VERY accommodating! We felt right at home staying here. We would definitely stay here again!
Home in Paradise
We had a wonderful time last week at the the Mauna Lani condo. Parking is right out front and the unit is very easy to find. A grocery store is very close to get all your needs. It's a beautiful home that looks to be recently renovated; photos online don't do it justice. The pictures on the wall are all from the island. Inspiration to explore! The pool is right around the corner, and there's a small gym in the facility. The best part of this place is location. It's near a TON of beaches. All beaches in Hawaii are public. Some are harder to get to than others but the owner provides some insight in the book in the house. The house itself is very spacious. The master is very large and there is grilling equipment on the back patio as well as an outdoor living/eating area. Also, there is a closet full water toys and beach accessories, along with a pack n play for babies. The house was well stocked with all kitchen accessories. Overall it was a wonderful experience, and we would absolutely stay here again.
What a wonderful trip! We'd go back again in a heartbeat!
Beautiful, Clean, Spacious Villa
Paul was wonderful during the reservation process. Because he lives there part of the year, he was able to give us lots of tips on things to do in the area. The Villa is spotless and very spacious! Kitchen has EVERYTHING. Lanai area is lovely and so private. We used the grill a lot. The pool is awesome and was never crowded and is very close to the villa. Would highly recommend this place if the Kohala Coast is your destination!
We are on the Noth Kahala coast on the west side of the big island. This part of the island is sunny almost every day Rainfall is rare but when it occurs it is usually in the form of showers that little interfere with outdoor activities
The temperatures in the winter range from a high of 82 daytime and 72 in the evenings. Summer temperatures rise by 5 degrees but are tempered by the almost constant 5 to 7 mile per hour trade winds.
Book upon Book have been written about the beauty and things to do on the Big Island of Hawaii, including Mark Twain' s real adventures in "roughing it".
We have been coming here year after year and never tire of the beauty all around and the new adventures that we still find.
Last month I was visiting with a local Doctor friend of ours, who except for the time he was in Medical school, has always lived here.
I don't remember what we were discussing, however he stopped me and said, "have you ever seen a more beautiful sunset," and I did agree.
We spend from four to five months here each year and spend the rest of the time thinking about coming back.
It is not perfect here and as another friend said to me, not perfect but, "we do have the best weather in the world." This friend has and still does travel the free world.
