Marking the dividing line between the fashionable and affluent neighbourhoods of Marylebone and Fitzrovia, Great Portland Street is an iconic stretch of central London road. At the north of the Street, you’ll find the picturesque Park Crescent and nearby the entrance to Regent’s Park, one of London’s most beautiful and popular green spaces. Inside the park, you’ll find everything from a beautiful rose garden to sports pitches and a bird sanctuary to an open air theatre. Down at the southern end of the Street, you’ll find the shopper's paradise of Oxford Street, with the flagship stores of big name high street retailers. The famous BBC has it’s home just off Great Portland Street in Broadcasting House. You can enjoy looking at the beautiful 1920s Art Deco entrance or peering through the windows of the modern extension to see Europe’s largest newsroom. For a little alternative culture, head to the New Diorama Theatre and see if any of the acclaimed off West End productions take your fancy. The Cartoon Museum has also found a new permanent home on Wells Street and allows visitors the chance to learn about the history of British cartooning from the 18th Century to the present day.
Fitzrovia, to the east of Great Portland Street, is known as the home of many of the best restaurants in London, and there are plenty of options in the area that cater to all tastes and budgets. A perfect spot for lunch or dinner is Honey & Co., a friendly husband and wife run restaurant serving middle eastern cuisine such as mezze and pastries. Mac and Wild is a Scottish-themed specialist restaurant serving game meats and traditional Scottish fare at a reasonable price. Picture Fitzrovia, meanwhile, is a chic and upmarket British-European restaurant that serves elegant and tasty meals and sharing dishes. For an evening drink, The Green Man is an excellent traditional British pub and the Remedy Wine Bar Shop and Kitchen boasts an excellent cellar of quality wines. For something a little different, try the sophisticated and stylish Punch Room at the London Edition , but be prepared to book in advance to secure a reservation as this stylish bar is extremely popular.
There are 3 tube stations within walking distance to the flat. Great Portland Street station (Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines) is a 2 minute walk away; Regent Park station (Bakerloo line) is a 4 minute walk away and Warren Street (Northern and Victoria lines) station is a 6 minute walk away. Alternatively, city taxis and Uber or Gett cars are plentiful and easy to find near you. Getting around the city couldn’t be easier.
