To the east of Tower Hill and Aldgate, Whitechapel can really be considered the heart of the east end of London. The traditionally working class community has a strong sense of pace and history. The area’s long history of immigration also means that there is a strong multicultural vibe with plenty of identities in a small area. Art lovers will enjoy the Whitechapel Gallery which hosts exhibitions of local and big name artists. With so much history of industry and crime (Whitechapel was home to Jack The Ripper and the Kray Twins), you can take a walking tour of the area to learn about it’s fascinating past. For lovers of architecture, a visit to Wilton’s Music Hall is highly recommended. Wilton’s is a rare example of a real 19th century east end variety and music hall that is still in operation in its original form.
When it comes to finding great food and drink, Whitechapel will certainly not leave you wanting. The very popular Tayyabs curry house has been open for nearly 50 years and is a favourite of locals and visitors alike with it’s excellent menu and no-fuss service. Similarly, Needoo Grill offers delicious food in a no-frills environment. Lupita East is a chic and well regarded Mexican joint on the way to Spitalfields. For an evening drink, try Apples and Pears for intriguing and unique cocktails, or the infamous Blind Beggar pub; an old fashioned east end boozer with fascinating history and association with the infamous Kray Twins.
Whitechapel is the nearest station to the property, just a 7 minute walk away. This connects you to the District and Hammersmith & City tube lines as well as the Overground, meaning you can get to iconic London sites in no time at all! You’re just a stone’s throw away from Tower Bridge or Brick Lane Market, so enjoy taking a walk through the city if you prefer. Exploring London could hardly be easier.
