Tucked away in the lush maritime forest of Bald Head Island is the newly refurbished Keewatin House. This classic beach house is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, creating a cozy forest setting on the BHI golf course overlooking a lagoon. You can hear the surf from the home’s screened in porches, with the beach a short golf cart drive or bicycle ride away. The reverse floor plan makes you feel like you are enjoying your island time in a tree house. The three storied home has 4 bedrooms, three full baths, two large screened in porches and two additional decks. On the top level of the home is a Great Room that includes living, dining and kitchen areas, full bath, deck, and screened-in porch. The second level has 4 bedrooms, laundry, and two other full baths. One of the bedrooms has a small private deck. The three other bedrooms open onto another spacious screened- in porch. Two bedrooms have king size beds, one bedroom has two single beds, and the fourth bedroom has a bunk bed (double on bottom and single on top) and a single bed. The ground level is a welcoming foyer with attached garage. The home has been recently renovated and redecorated. The colors are bright and cheerful, the indoor and porch furniture just what you need to make your time in the home comfortable and inviting. The top screened porch has a seating area, plus a dining table with seating for six. The second level screened in porch has another seating area and hammock.. The top deck has a gas grill for easy access for outdoor grilling. Two golf carts (one new six seater and one four seater) come with the house, plus bicycles (adult and children), beach chairs, fishing poles, and an assortment of beach toys. The house also comes equipped with tv in living room and twin bedroom and wifi. We also have three kayaks (one tandem and two singles) kept on the creek side of the island for your use and easy access to the kayak launching area. Temporary membership to the Bald Head Island Club is available for an additional fee.

About Sharon and Jim Lightbourne
Jim's parents lived on the island for years. His parents were very involved with the island conservancy, and the house is named after their boat Keewatin. Our daughter was married on BHI and our son proposed to his fiancee on BHI. Bald Head has been a wonderful summer vacation spot for our extended family for years. We hope to continue this tradition for many years to come. We are so excited to have bought this home in summer 2016.
Sharon and Jim Lightbourne purchased this House in 2016
Why Sharon and Jim Lightbourne chose Bald Head Island
We purchased this home since it captures the essence of maritime forest living, with close proximity to the beach and Bald Head Island Club. The home is also in a very quiet neighborhood at the end of a cul-de-sac.
What makes this House unique
Sitting on the screened in porches, you feel part of the woods and can hear the birds with sounds of surf. The home also provides expanded living space with the two large screened- in porches and two decks.

Great time at Bald Head Island
Stayed at the Keewatin house while we were on the island for a wedding and highly enjoyed it. A great value for the island and having beach chairs, beach towels and basic amenities was very helpful to not have to bring on the ferry. Golf carts were nice and location was very private, loved staying in the maritime forest. Sharon & Jim were also great, sending us the local announcements & happenings throughout the weekend via email. Would definitely stay there again!
Great spot, excellent amenities!
House was clean and well-stocked, nicest carts and bikes we’ve seen at rentals on the island, and access to kayaks, too! Screened porches were a great asset we didn’t even know to anticipate. Would definitely rent again.
Spacious, well-stocked, clean!
We LOVED our week at the Keewatin House. It's spacious, well-stocked (seriously, they have everything) and the two golf carts (one a new 6-seater) are great. We loved having the bikes on property and sent our kids out to ride every morning. It's so great that they can explore and we don't have to worry about cars! The owners are super responsive, helpful and friendly. The forest location is great because it's very private, nice to have some shade to escape to, we saw tons of frogs, and it's central to everything on the island. There are a LOT of bugs and the mosquitos are relentless, but luckily there's two big screened in porches. The only thing I'd ask for would be more comfortable King mattresses. We love Bald Head Island and will come back again and again and again...
Very well equipped property on a great island
Bald Head Island is heaven - think Chappaquiddick but with necessities (groceries, small places to eat, safety patrols, etc) at hand, no cars, multiple ecosystems, and No Black Flies! This house, tucked away at the end of a secluded street backing onto the golf course but well within the native forest, is simple and certainly not high end but was as well equipped and decorated as any rental at which we have ever spent time. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need, with all drawers and shelves labelled and fully stocked. Plenty of hot water for showers and great internet and cable. Equipped with a six and a four seat golf cart that while slow and not enclosed (in case of rain) got us everywhere we needed to go. There are bikes as well that were serviceable, and there was even a soccer ball waiting for us. Pet friendly meant we could bring Rocky - it was the first time we had been on vacation with our dog and he had great fun on the beach without the need for a leash!
Enjoy your visit to BHI, do not be surprised if you will want to return to the island over and over again.
Lovely home in great condition.
Wonderful family vacation! Plenty of room for all 4 adults and 3 children. Good location.
Great first trip to BHI!
This was our first trip to BHI and the owners were very helpful explaining logistics and providing information. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. Definitely would recommend to others.
