About John and Susie Whittingham
Worth Lodge Cottage and its surrounding 6 acres was bought by John and Susie Whittingham in 2011. The cottage was built in around 1890 as a lodge cottage to Highley Manor, a Victorian Manor house in Crawley Lane. The cottage sits on a Roman Road, we believe leading from London down to the south west coast. The cottage was part of the Paddockhurst Estate, and was previously lived in by the Gamekeeper with kennels once housing the working dogs. There is a rumour that the last gamekeeper had hidden treasure somewhere on the property, kindly let us know if you find it! In the last 5 years their cottage has been sympathetically extended, the gardens and driveway re-modelled and a vegetable garden and chicken run installed. Rearing their own pigs some years, having chickens and growing their own produce, John and Susie aim to be as self-sufficient as possible.

Why John and Susie Whittingham chose Balcombe
We love our cottage in its rural setting just outside the beautiful village of Balcombe. The village offers various amenities including a community owned village pub, The Half Moon Inn, village shop and deli, Balcombe Stores, The Balcombe Club, Tea Rooms, cricket club and recreational ground. We are also 5 minutes walking distance to The Cowdray Arms serving delicious home cooked food. The safari tents are set in their own private site tucked away in the woodland. Our location is easily accessible by road and just an hour from London. We are also in close proximity to Gatwick airport and there is a mainline station in the village.
