This family sized cabin is located in Gingercake Acres which sits adjacent to Linville Gorge, "the Grand Canyon of the East" in the mountains of North Carolina. The house is called "Panacea" as it is nestled in mountain laurels and rhododendron, with views of the mountain ridge, providing a perfect place for peace and relaxation. This is a great location for hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and fishing, all within a 30 minute drive. Brown Mountain lights, Linville Falls, and Linville Caverns are only minutes away. Restaurants, breweries, and shopping include locations in Linville, Banner Elk, Boone, and Blowing Rock. The cabin includes 1 king, 3 queen, 1 full, and 1 twin bed. The primary kitchen on the main floor includes granite countertops, full appliances, dishes, cooking utencils, and washer and dryer. There is a kitchenette on the lower level, along with dining area. The lower level of the home generally stays cool during the summer months. HVAC heats and cools the upper level. In-room bedroom heating units are available for all bedrooms in addition to the fireplaces. Two rock fireplaces with gas fired logs adorn the living areas of the home. The king bedroom and dressing area are located on the main floor with the four other bed locations on the lower level. Satellite TV and internet service is available within the home. (Cell phones are enhanced by use of WiFi calling). A cell phone booster also enhances signals for calling. A large front porch/deck area allows for a great outside sitting area for everyone in the house. The house is comfortable for a couple looking for a romantic getaway, or a family or group looking for a retreat. (Cleaning fees are negotiable for renters using only the upper level of the home with 4 or less persons.)

About Don and Pat Smith
We have lived in the Foothills of North Carolina most of our lives. We love spending time in our mountain cabin and greatly enjoy the environment and time on the mountain trails.
Don and Pat Smith purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Don and Pat Smith chose Newland
Due to our desire to spend more time in the natural beauty of the mountains, we made the decision to buy a mountain cabin that could be used by our own family, as well as our friends and visitors.
What makes this Cabin unique
The property adjoins the Linville Gorge, a beautiful area for waterfalls, mountain trails and mountain views. We are within a 30 minute drive of skiing, snowboarding, shopping, wineries, restaurants and shopping. Hiking trails into the Gorge and the Wilson Creek/Upper Falls are nearby.

Fantastic mountain getaway
We enjoyed our stay at Panacea so much! The house is big enough for families, but still cozy. You have everything you need, including firewood for the fire pit outside. We enjoyed sitting by the fire and making s'mores. The home is located close by to restaurants, wineries and hiking trails. Our family enjoyed the mountain getaway and is looking forward to making this an annual tradition! Thank you, Smith Family!
Thanks for your review! We look forward to your next visit!
Perfect and well kept
Great experience, well appointed home with all we needed for our stay. The Owner's even provided snacks on the table upon our arrival.
Would highly recommend.
Please come back! We are so glad that your mountain visit was a good one.
WONDERFUL VACATION HOME
We were completely " BLOWN AWAY" by this vacation home. Without giving away my age, I have been traveling for many many years. The vacation home is the most well stocked home by far I have ever stayed in. The owners have thought of every thing: from a nice snack when we arrived to the "OH NO' I for got my soap, every cooking item you would need, fire wood ect.. The house was extremely clean, large enough we could all have our space and comfortable. My Sister-n-law and her husband had the master bedroom. She still can not stop talking about how comfortable the bed was. We definitely will return. Thank you for helping make our quick family weekend vacation special. Second visit and great place to stay.
This was our second stay at Panacea and we loved it this year just as much as we did in 2017. The space was great for our family...the basement gave the kids room for needed noisy play; the dining and living rooms, the porch and fire pit were perfect for quiet times (board games, movies, reading, relaxing). The remodeling in the kitchen was a pleasant change and the additional double bed in the basement gave us more room to spread out. This is a perfect place for us to use as a home base to hike, explore the area and visit Boone and Blowing Rock.
Most importantly, the owners were great to work with throughout the rental process including "after the stay." Last year they searched for a lost item ("gold" from a gem mining trip) and this year they promptly notified us about a forgotten item and mailed it to our family member once it was identified!
Overall, a great place to stay!
Thank you! We will look forward to your next visit!
Very relaxing and well stocked home.
We had a great weekend in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The house has plenty of room and close to great hiking and site seeing. The owners were very easy to communicate with. We would love to stay next time we are in the area.
We would love for you to stay again! Also, thank you so much for taking such good care of our home.
Great place for a family vacay
There were 4 adults and 4 kids. There was plenty of room for all of us. We only ate out once and even had company for dinner one night. There were 10 of us around the dining room table. We had a campfire one afternoon after a great hike to Hawk’s Bill and cooked hotdogs and s’mores. The only complaint we had was the jute rug in the living room shedding all over the kids clothes as they crawled around playing trucks! Lol
This vacation property is within approximately 30 minutes of Grandfather Mountain and Beech Mountain skiing. Wineries, breweries, crafts, and shopping adorn this beautiful mountain area. Hiking, fishing, and biking activities are plentiful throughout the area.
