Perfect for 2 Couples, Steps to Beach with Ocean Views
This beautiful Indonesian hardwood home was built with the tropics and local lifestyle in mind. With 3 bedrooms, an office and 3 bathrooms, this home has 2000 square feet of space for a wonderful experience. There is a big living room/lanai area that opens to the ocean and a rear balcony with views of the mountains. You will want to spend a lot of time there. (We loved our morning coffee watching the water.)
We furnished this house with 2 King beds and 2 Twin beds because we have found that when we go on vacations with other couples, we have a discussion as to who gets stuck in the small beds. Both adult couples will be equally comfortable and everyone will have their own bathrooms (including the kids.) Most rooms have breathtaking ocean or mountain views, and sleeping in the master bedroom you can wake up seeing the ocean. All bathrooms have extra-large showers, unique Asian mosaics and tropical features. The outdoor shower (with hot water!) is especially useful when coming back from the beach sandy feet and hair.
As this house is a true tropical structure with imported Bankirai wood from Asia, it provides plenty of character. The vibrant wood makes for an experience by itself. The woven bamboo ceilings are unique and the openness of the house provides a true indoor/outdoor tropical living experience. The house ventilation is air driven as the house is literally open in some weather protected parts and has solar fans in others.
This house is in a family oriented neighborhood, only a few steps from the water. Everything is nearby and in walking distance. We love the 5-minute walk to Pokai Bay for a quick dip in a calm water. On the other side of the bay is a perfect break for surfing. This is also a fabulous location to try stand up paddle boarding and kayaking. We always send out a scout to Pokai Bay at 7am in the morning to check to see if dolphins are in the bay. If they are there, everyone grabs goggles and swim out for a free dolphin encounter! These are the most beautiful and safe beaches for families. There is shopping, the bank, post office, a small local mall only a couple of blocks away. And yes, even Starbucks and Jamba Juice. From a practical point of view, this home is unbeatable.
Other amazing secrets in Waianae: There is a boat harbor where 2 companies run dolphin excursion tours. We live so close you will only need to get up 10 minutes before your meeting time. Only 2 miles away is a fabulous golf course in the mountains with incredible ocean views. It is never crowded and it is really fun to play. Our favorite hike is a coastal hike up to the farthest point of the west side, Keanu Point. You will see dolphins and seals, and unspoiled nature.
We also love our local restaurants. Hannara has a fried rice omelet and fresh banana mac nut pancakes. We walk there in the morning. Best views and amazing food can be found at Ka'Ha'aina Café at the health center. You need to go up there and eat in a pole house with views along the entire coast. There is a wonderful little nature walking tour as well.
When we play tourist, we head over to the Ko Olina where the Marriott and Disney resorts are only 15 minutes away. We love the Monkey Pod Restaurant, but there are over 20 restaurants to choose from among the 4 hotels. Also, if you want an AMAZING spa experience, the Aulani has the BEST spa I have ever seen with an outdoor area for relaxing that is second to none. My husband and I would hang out there all afternoon.
If you want a true local and tropical vacation, this house is the place to rent and enjoy for its qualities and uniqueness. We are excited to have you as our guest and look forward for you to share this amazing experience.

About Laura Keaton
We fell in love with the west side of Oahu in 2007 and spent 6 years living in paradise. We now are a family living on the 9th island, but our hearts are in Waianae.
Laura Keaton purchased this House in 2007
Why Laura Keaton chose Waianae
We designed and imported our house from a tropical structure manufacturer from Indonesia. It took 5 containers to get the entire house over to Hawaii! The land was the perfect location, a great ocean view with only steps to a beautiful, sandy beach. Our house is made with a hardwood called Bankirai which is as hard as ironwood. This is our dream home.
What makes this House unique
This is truly an tropical structure with open air venting. It is such a special place to stay with the woven bamboo ceilings to the hand carved doors.

This Vacation Rental is Amazing
The following comments are coming from 4 friends vacationing in Hawaii. We are in our early 20s and 30s professionals from the US mainland and Canada. We stayed here for 4 days.
1. I must admit, this house is amazing. The best feature of the house maybe the set up with the Lanai, just steps away from an upgraded kitchen with an expansive granite slab island, where you can have coffee in the morning and view the beach. We also had dinners out there every night.
2. The master bedroom is big with a very nice free standing tub in the master bath. There is also an upright piano in there, which I thought is odd, but maybe to play a lullaby?
3. There are beach bags, towels and a boogie board for use.
4. The property is awesome. Best one on the block.
5. Felt safe because of the gate.
6. The beach looks better than the pics on the website
7. Love the grill!!
8. Kitchen is well stocked with utensils/pots/pans.
1. Noise - We don't mind the roosters crowing at all times of day, and even at night, or the cats meowing their lungs out in an epic battle for their territory, but the highway behind the house generated a lot of traffic noise even at night. The owners even suggested to play some soothing white noise background to drown out the screeching breaks and roaring mufflers.
2. It IS the best house in the block. Read between the lines.
3. Kinda dark at night, needed to have the busted light bulbs replaced over the island counter and the lights in the Lanai
4. Icemaker doesn't work.
OVERALL: We had a great time staying at this property.
Lovely home, close to the beach
The home was beautiful and custom built, but for us, that presented a few issues. We are a family of short stature, tallest 5’4” down to 5’.
All counters were much higher than standard wirh sink bowls above that. Not ideal, but we found a ladder.
This is a rural area, with cats and chickens running wild. There is a local rooster announcing the morning from about midnight. ;-( Usually we were tired enough from our days activities that we were able to fall asleep but his 7am wake up call was not welcome.
The home is a short walk to the beach, with many other beautiful beaches up and down this coast. Many great restaurants in the area.
If you are looking for a place away from the crowds in Honolulu, with a more sedate get away atmosphere, this is the place.
I totally understand your height problem. When we build this beautiful home, we imported all the wood and cabinets from Indonesia. As people there are pretty small, we were surprised on how tall the counters were. We lived there with toddlers and had to use ladders as well. My wife and I are pretty tall, 6.5 and 5.10 so it never really bugged us.
But we are glad you were resourceful and still enjoyed the house as it is beautiful. Mahalo for the feedback, we very much appreciate it.
This House is Everything You Need When Vacationing on O'ahu
My family of 4 stayed in this beautiful rental for 9 nights (12-23, 1-2) and the house is everything you're looking for while vacationing on the beautiful island of O'ahu. The rental has enough space to accommodate 8 people easily, while having enough essentials for enjoying your vacation.
(Pros) The rental is no more than a 3 minute walk (Yes, I'd timed) to the beach, which is facing the front of the house. The landscaping is very beautiful, tropical and so Hawaiian. The rental has only 1 TV in the living room, which is somewhat of a bummer, if you've got kids who are used to their own TV. The kitchen has a full-size fridge, an electric stove top, a microwave and a convection oven. The rental has 4, spacious bedrooms, two of which are Master's style (the main one has a piano in it), another bedroom has two, twin beds in it for kids, 3 full bathrooms, a fully functional washer-dryer, beach-sized towels for taking to the beach and boards for the beach, 3 decks with one somewhat private but you'll be looking into someone's backyard. There is no A/C but the rental doesn't need it due to the many ceiling fans which circulate the breeze coming from the ocean. The rental also has an outside shower for when you've been at the beach, you can wash the sand off of you, a new propane grill for a nice BBQ (which we fired up several times).
(Cons) As said earlier, the house is beautiful, but needs a little TLC. Nothing very problematic. Parts of the house is a little dusty with cobwebs in some corners. The gate has bike locks on them since the mechanical part doesn't work. No biggie. The full-sized fridge ice maker and water dispenser didn't work. No biggie. Doors leading to two of the decks (the living room and main Master's) didn't open completely up. We also experience that the neighbor to the left of the house has roosters that crow early in the morning, cats and dogs that love to bark and fight all times of day. He also likes to play his music loud in the morning. The street the rental is located, as well as the street that parallels the beach, can be quite active in the morning as well. Nevertheless, the pros of this rental definitely outweighs the cons.
Overall, if you're interested in vacationing on O'ahu, this rental is very worthy for your family. The owner is quick to respond to any questions you might have. My family's first trip to Hawaii and O'ahu was very enjoyable and very comfortable in this rental and would recommend it to anyone.
Mahalo for the positive response, we very much appreciate it. I am sorry there were a few items that weren't perfect (We always follow up on those), but you seem to have a great view on weighing those things against the beauty of the environment and the property. That's what we do too. We are renting on VRBO a lot too and nothing is ever perfect, but then you go for the location and not all for the property. We lived in this property for a few years with our kids and I feel exactly what you are saying, but enjoyed every day of it, because that's how life on Hawaii really is. Again Mahalo for the review and the feedback.
A great hawaiian appeal.
This home was perfect for our family of 6. We enjoyed each morning sitting on the lanai drinking our coffee and watching the ocean. The neighborhood was fairly quiet other then barking dogs. The yard was beautifully done and made you feel a little secluded. If you plan on spending a lot of time in Waikiki or the north shore there is some drive time with traffic getting back to the house. The home it's self is exactly what we wanted for island appeal. It's charm will embrace you the moment you enter it door.
Thanks for the great feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the house and the environment. I totally remember the dogs when we lived there, it seems that the Hawaiians are more afraid of a dog then an alarm system. That's why everybody has one. We got used to it after a while living there :-).
Again, we are glad you enjoyed our beautiful house and your trip
Breathtaking and exotic
When we planned our first trip to Oahu,, we wanted to avoid the big city,/tourist areas so we focused on the West Coast as it is known to be the locals side of the island. We came across this house and not only was it away from the big city, it's architecture and landscaping made us truly feel like we were in an exotic, tropical location.
Upon arrival, my family of 6 was greeted by April (the property manager) and was given the run down of the property. We were stoked to see the inside in person. The house is absolutely stunning. From the wood floors, trim, and vaulted ceilings to the windows and openings to allow natural ventilation really makes you feel like you are in another world. The house is huge and all remodeled 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 3 balconies. The master bedroom has a wall of accordion windows that lead to a deck. I miss waking up to this view each morning! The kitchen/living room has the same windows that lead to the lanai with ocean views. We enjoyed relaxing out here each night before bed. We never had issues with bugs but we had a resident gecko in addition to the occasional cats and chickens!
The location is on the West Coast so keep in mind you will have to drive to the touristy spots. It's not that bad (about 30 mins to Waikiki) but keep in mind, there is rush hour traffic when you plan your day. As another reviewer mentioned, this is the nicest home on the block but remember this is a local residential area and not everyone wants to live in a vacation home.
Just a few downfalls: as much as I love the openness of the house, a lot of sounds come through. You can hear the pleasant sounds of the wind, rain, birds, and ocean but you can also hear the cars and sirens especially if you stay in the upstairs master bedroom. However, we slept very comfortably even with the unpleasant sounds.
The house does not have air conditioning so you need to keep those windows open to get the breeze at night. Although it's very soothing, I'm a city girl and only feel comfortable when every window and door is locked with three locks! This took some getting used to but it was so refreshing.
One other issue is that there are no locks on the bathrooms and bedrooms. Not a terrible issue, but if you travel with young kids, you won't be able to hide from them!
We miss this house already and can't wait to go Back!
We are glad you enjoyed your stay. When we get to Hawaii, the moment you leave the plane and you get outside, the air hits you in a very homey and beautiful manner. For some reason it just feels right to be there and feel it. It is hard to describe, every time when we land we look at each other and we say "Home". It just feels like it ... just amazing.
Having that in mind and seeing lots of other property designs that have corners and have no wind flow but also no A/C, we decided to use that beautiful Hard wood and create a house designed for that beautiful air flow in Hawaii. It was build with the idea to use those windows open and get that air into the house. We loved that breeze and all the local sounds when we lived there. Every room has cross flows of air and keeps the room ventilated. It does a little to get used to it, but once you got used to it, it is unbeatable. We are glad you learned how to tolerate it and enjoy the air and sounds of Hawaii :-).
We miss those views and the house too. It is breathtaking. We will take those items you mentioned and look into them. Again Mahalo for the review and we cannot wait to have you back.
My family and I stayed for 6 days at this wonderful home. The pictures were exactly what was advertised and the customer service provided was excellent. The home is very spacious and clean and I would recommend this place to my family and friends.
Thanks for the great review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay.
