About Megan Lawson
We are Megan and Tom Lawson, and we are glad you are considering Mountain Time for your vacation get-away. We love to travel the world and enjoy staying in charming venues that have a homey touch. We think you will agree that our mountain retreat offers just that! Mountain Time, although very roomy with 2400 square feet, offers a cozy feel and a very comfortable atmosphere. We know you'll love admiring our antique clock collection, which is part of the much larger collection amassed by Megan's father during his lifetime. The collection inspired the name of our home, Mountain Time.

Why Megan Lawson chose Blowing Rock
Tom and I met in Boone at Appalachian State University when he was in graduate school and Megan was visiting the campus. We were married in 1987 and made our first home in Boone, where Tom worked at ASU and Megan taught at Blowing Rock School. Both of our boys, now grown, were born in Boone, and this area is very special to us. We know the area well and visit as often as we can, especially for ASU sporting events. We have longed to return to the High Country even if only on a part-time basis. We now live "down the mountain" in Winston-Salem where Tom works in banking and Megan is a retired teacher who volunteers in the local schools. You will find exciting attractions in Boone and the High Country and understand why we love it so much. The region is the home to several “firsts”: NC’s original theme park – Tweetsie Railroad; the state’s very first golf course – Linville Golf Club; the state’s oldest travel attraction – The Blowing Rock; the state’s only public caverns – Linville Caverns; the nation’s oldest Revolutionary War drama – Horn in the West; and the world’s first privately owned biosphere reserve – Grandfather Mountain. The High Country boasts some of the best in music, dance, theater, and the arts. From world-renown guitarist and five-time Grammy winner, Doc Watson, to the Moscow Festival Ballet to Broadway quality productions, premier entertainment is available, especially during the summer arts festival An Appalachian Summer. Appalachian State University has a nice Website and lists many activities throughout the year. Blowing Rock has “Art in the Park” on select Saturdays during the summer. On Thanksgiving weekend, the city of Blowing Rock hosts a great holiday celebration and parade, and the Blowing Rock Winterfest is a delightful celebration of the winter season.
What makes this House unique
A lot of extra touches make this a very special home. It is newly updated and boasts many "extras" that we think you will enjoy. The kitchen has all new appliances and the master bathroom has heated floors. You'll find a large entertaining space on each floor, and a charming spiral staircase connects the two floors. The main floor has a stone fireplace with gas logs and access to a deck with a gas grill and outdoor dining furniture. A pass-through from kitchen to den facilitates ease in entertaining. Just minutes from Appalachian Ski mountain, and very near shopping, hiking, and dining, our home is ideally located for all of the High Country activities. We have fun family activities on site, including a corn hole set and a ping pong table. We also have a garage, which is especially nice during winter months or the occasional summer rain shower. We also have a fire pit, which you can enjoy in our fenced in yard. In the winter we have a "soft" mountain view when the leaves are off the trees, and at night you will be lulled to sleep by the twinkling lights of Appalachian Ski Mountain. A short stroll to the end of our dead-end street allows you to see breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. AMAZING, best time ever, would recommend this home to everyone looking for a great home away from home!
Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed our home, and I hope you will come visit Mountain Time again!
A great house in an amazing location. Perfectly in between Boone and Blowing Rock. We had 5 small children in our party and it was perfect for them.
Beautiful and comfortable house it is centrally located so it is easy to gettoBlowimg Rock and Boone. The ping pong table was a big hit. We had a great time.
Thank you for your review! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will visit Mountain Time again.
Excellent 4-bedroom house
The house was high up the mountain yet close to both Boone and Blowing Rock. It was great having 4 bedrooms, each with a variety of bed sizes. Some houses "sleep 10" in 4 bedrooms by having 1 bed per bedroom plus a sofabed. This house has 7 beds total in the bedrooms! The kitchen was well stocked, including a variety of condiments and such in the fridge. Just make sure you know that the bedrooms with multiple beds are downstairs via only a spiral stair, or via going down around outside. Internet was great. Everything as advertised. Great value.
Thank you for this nice review. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and hope you will rent from us again!
Excellent girls’ getaway!
The home was a perfect girls’ getaway. The kitchen was stocked, and with two refrigerators, we had plenty of room. We were also within ten minutes of Blowing Rock.
Hoping to always be on MOUNTAIN TIME!
We had a wonderful weekend! The house was beautiful, location was perfect, and it was truly a mountain retreat!

On Thanksgiving weekend, the city of Blowing Rock hosts a great holiday celebration and parade, and the Blowing Rock Winterfest is a delightful celebration of the winter season. Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, and Boone all have very nice Websites that give a wealth of information about the area. Some of our favorite places are: Dining: Try Woodlands BBQ in Blowing Rock for the best wings in the state. This is a family-friendly restaurant that often has live music on the weekends. For those who like an “adventure” in dining try The Gamekeeper off Shulls Mill Rd. The menu changes, but you can enjoy items like elk, emu, and bison (http://gamekeeper-nc.com/main-menu/). Bistro Roca in Blowing Rock is a great place for dinner or lunch. They have excellent food and a fun atmosphere (http://www.bistroroca.com). The Six Pence Pub and Storie Street Grille on Main St. in Blowing Rock are also excellent choices for lunch. Hiking: Boone Fork trail, Grandfather Profile trail, Price Park around the lake, Cone Carriage trail, Hebron Falls, and Linville Falls are just a few of the great hiking trails in the area. There is a book of hiking trails on the coffee table in the den. Beverages: There are two new breweries in Boone that are fun and have good beer and one has a food truck. Grandfather Winery is not far away on Hwy 105. It is a beautiful setting, and they have wine tastings or wine by the glass/bottle. They are located along the river and have lots of chairs to enjoy the river. Feel free to take a snack or lunch and have a peaceful afternoon by the river. Valle Crucis – always fun to go to the Mast General Store– they have a candy shop and ice cream shop as well. Behind the Mast Store is a wonderful park with walking trails by the river, which is fun for wading or tubing, and there are also play sets, soccer and volleyball fields. We hope you have a wonderful visit at Mountain Times. Please let us know if we can be of any assistance during your stay. Thank you for staying at our mountain retreat.
