Please Read The Entire Description And See All Photos Prior To Booking: This listing is for the whole house. This is NOT a shared space. You get the whole house to yourself. By booking, you are agreeing that you have read the entire listing prior to booking. This cabin is ready to rent, but it is not perfect yet. There are all sorts of things we'd like to update including some of the furniture, the decorations, the kitchen and the bathrooms.
This is a genuine older cabin built in 1929 that sits near the national forest and is walking distance to the rivers, streams and hiking trails. The outside of the cabin has been updated, but on the inside is still looks like an old cabin (with the exception of the kitchen and bathrooms). There are 5 total bedrooms. There are two downstairs bedrooms and three bedrooms upstairs. We added a new water line in the front yard the beginning of January and since it is winter there will not be grass until sometime in spring (when it rains it is rather muddy). So some of the front yard does not look pretty at all right now. Water is not currently working.
The stairs/steps to go upstairs are extremely steep and very narrow and are not ideal at all for older guests or those who are not extremely sure on their feet. We've lived at this cabin for several months and didn't have any issues, but we wanted our guests to be aware of this prior to booking. Again, the stairs are very narrow and the steps themselves are very narrow. Please do not book this cabin if this will be an issue for you or your group. There are two full bathrooms on the first floor and one-half bathroom upstairs so if someone has mobility issues they would not need to use the stairs and could sleep in one of the downstairs bedrooms. There is a king-size bed in the master bedroom upstairs. There is a full-size bed and a queen-size futon as well (the queen futon is set up as a couch by default, but if guests need it they can use it as a queen-size bed since it folds down. Again it is a futon, not a couch bed or a regular bed), in another upstairs bedroom and then the other bedroom upstairs has two full-size beds in it. The downstairs bedrooms each have one queen-size bed in them. The one downstairs bedroom has curtains instead of doors for the time being (there are two doors that will need to be added at some point). This bedroom is right off the kitchen and the living room so the most sound sleeping guest should sleep in this bedroom if all of the other bedrooms are used. :) We are in the process of building two real wood doors for this bedroom, but until then there will just be curtains instead of doors. The house has central heat downstairs only. The heat does rise of course (stating the obvious here), so if you leave the doors open to the upstairs bedrooms during the day they'll be very warm at bedtime. And if you leave them open at night it will plenty warm too. The wood stove will really heat the upstairs nicely too when the bedroom doors are left open (firewood must be purchased on-site and may not be brought to the property by guests). There is an air conditioning unit downstairs only which cools the downstairs nicely (only during the summer months). We will most likely add at least one A/C unit upstairs in the summer months though. The cabin is on city water (not a well) and there is a pressure tank and which boosts the water pressure. The pressure tank does make noise when it comes on, but it usually only comes on when water is being used and it does not stay on long once you stop using water.
The kitchen was last remodeled in the 1970's and has not been updated since then (we do plan to remodel the kitchen). The appliances are very old, but do all work. The refrigerator is actually the exact same fridge that was in my house as a kid (which I think is great... not sure that anyone else will care though, but I really like it). And it still works! :) There are old vinyl floors in the kitchen and laundry room as well as one of the bathrooms downstairs. The kitchen cabinets are 1970's as are the countertops. The other downstairs bathroom has 1990's era tile on the floor. We plan to completely remodel the kitchen as well as all of the bathrooms at some point when funds permit. The real hardwood floors were covered up by carpet for the past 40+ years and we just had the floors sanded and refinished and we're really happy with how they turned out. There is a large stone fireplace in the living room (with a wood stove that has a glass door so that you can see the fire). Firewood must be purchased on-site (for a fee at the current rates) and may not brought to the property by guests. This is to cover our insurance costs, make sure that only the correct wood is burned and to avoid spreading the Emerald Ash Borer which is an invasive species that kills trees in the national forests. There is no hanging, playing or climbing on the wood and metal railing on the second floor over the living room. Parents agree that they will be responsible for their children not playing or climbing on or around these railings.
The cabin is just a short walk to the creek. Fishing is permitted (only on our land or in the national forest) and a license is required per state law. There is a large front yard which is perfect for the kids to play. Pets are welcome, but there is a pet fee(s) of $55 per pet. This is not a per night charge, but rather just a one time charge for each pet. This house is not perfect and please make sure you don't rent this if an updated kitchen or updated bathrooms are something you are needing/wanting... If you are looking for perfection then this cabin is not for you. If you are looking for lots of character and would like to partner with us to restore this cabin to what it would have looked when it was built then we'd love to have you stay.
There is a tv there is no cable. The water pressure is also a little weak at times. If for any reason the cabin loses power (which has only happened a few times in the past half of a dozen years) there will be no refunds since the cabin can be heated with the wood stove and water can be drawn from the creek to make the toilets work. All pet fee(s), early check-in or late check-out, firewood or extra person fees are not refundable once paid. It always the guests' responsibility to understand where this property is located and the listing clearly states where the property. We are not responsible for guests' booking a property in an area that they didn't mean to book in or in a location that they didn't intend to book. We are also not responsible for determining how far the property is from any other location or area (including not responsible for drive time or distances to and from where the guests will be traveling). We charge per person not just per adult. Infants and children need to be paid for. We are not responsible for power outages, utility outages, WiFi outages, weather or other such things out of our control and there will be no refund for any of these reasons. If you or someone in your group is allergic to pets or anything else (detergent, air fresheners, etc), please let us know in advance so we can discuss this prior to your booking and then also prior to your arrival. We try not use any scented products but we cannot be responsible for what other guests right before your stay may have used. Different cabins and different houses have different scents. Those with fireplaces will have the scent of a wood burning fire. Those with wood will have the scent of wood. We cannot be responsible for determining what you will or will not be sensitive to though. This is truly impossible to determine ahead of time. And yes, this is in here because people complained about the smell of a fireplace in a cabin with a fireplace and the smell of cedar in a cabin with cedar walls. Each cabin and house will have its own unique scent. We did just add a water line to the cabin next door so the front yard will not look great until spring when the grass starts to grow back (you can really see where we dug up the yard). Guests will not have access to the garage or the shed at this property and guests may not try to access them. We do have several cats that live OUTDOORS both at this cabin and the cabin next door sometimes but it very often. They are not always here, but they may be here at times. Guests must not allow their dogs or kids to chase them or harass them. We take care of them and guests are not required to feed or do anything with them. They are very friendly and may come say hello too. They love people and are accustom to kids, dogs and they love people. But please do not let them into the cabin though. :) There are some odds and ends left by the family we bought this cabin from that are still in the wooded parts of this property that we'll be cleaning out over the next few months.
Also, we ask that guests NOT back out of the driveway. There is plenty of parking and guests are asked to turn around and not back out so as to not hit any trees or anything else when leaving the cabin. Also, guests are not permitted to park or drive on the grass.
Owners are not responsible to mail or hold on to left items.
No check-ins or checkouts on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. Owners only have the right to cancel a reservation without refund for reservations made to check in or out on these days. If owners allow the booking, a charge of $100 will be charged to check-in.
