Our RARE CORNER WRAP-AROUND LANAI Remodeled Oeacnfront Papakea Condo has a Million dollar Panoramic view like no other on the resort.

There are only a few of these 2 bedroom / 2 bath units with 2 Large windows in the living area on the corner. The Wrap-around Lanai is only available on an Oceanfront building AND we face South-Southwest and the sunsets are unreal to see. We have remodeled our condo and recently tiled throughout the lower level and new carpeting upstairs. This is a ONE OF A KIND unit at Papakea Resort.

We have ON-ISLAND Management Maui Dreams Come True ONLY Specialists to Papakea Resort with over 35yrs at Papakea Resort to take care of all your needs. They are also Owners at Papakea and take the utmost personal care to all guests.

VERY Bad experience

We stayed in this unit from February 1 to February 11, 2017.

The following are our comments about our stay:

1. We arrived at the unit late on the evening of February 1. The next morning at 8:00 AM we were awakened to the sounds of drilling and heavy machinery running next to our unit. We discovered that work was being done on the sea wall adjacent to the unit. This continued every workday from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM. We were unable to use the patio area of the condo during these times due to the loud noise from the construction area. We were never told about this when we booked the condo, made our payments or prior to our arrival on the island. This work made seven out of the ten days we were there very unenjoyable and miserable.

2. We repeatedly tried to call and talk with the management company but all we ever got was an answering machine. Of the numerous calls made and messages left only one call was returned where I was able to talk to someone. I reported the above as well as items that were broken or needed fixed that included lights out and the phone not working. I was told that someone would be over to correct the problems. This NEVER happened despite numerous calls and messages to get this work done.

3. We discovered that there were not any coat hangers in any of the closets; therefore we were unable to hang up any of our clothes.

4. The one clock on the kitchen wall did not work. It needed a new battery. There were no clocks in the bedrooms.

5. The sound bar for the TV was broken

6. The TV in the loft area only has four channels on it as the one in the living area has full cable access.

7. The light bulb in the upstairs shower was broken.

8. The place was dirty and musty upon our arrival. There was a layer of dust on everything that we needed to clean ourselves.

9. The furniture is run down and very uncomfortable

10. The lighting in the loft area is terrible. You cannot sit up there in the chair or in bed and read. There is not enough light to do that.

11. We were charges a $17.oo per day report fee which is listed on the VRBO website as $15 per day as well as being listed as $15 per day in the paperwork we received from the management company. We had to pay $17 per day when we checked in. Again no communication from the management company.

12. We killed six cockroaches inside the unit while we were there.

Owner's Response: Aloha - 1. Unfortunately, a Seawall foundation repair with generators for a small drill were extended for a longer period Mon-Fri 8:30am to 4:30pm. Workers were on the Resort south of this building finishing a 100ft section of our 1200ft shoreline seawall 2. We repeatedly called back each message to the condo ext and the cell phone provided on 2 messages, which went straight to voicemail and messages were left by our office. However, no details of need or concern were left on messages to our office. We did connect and were advised of concern of different Resort Fee. We discussed and re-emailed the confirmation notice that was to guest with their Final Confirmation assuring they had prior notice. We also discussed the seawall work that was to the south of the condo location 3. There were a dozen hangers in each closet prior to checkin and upon checkout as we stock in all 25 of our other condos at Papakea Resort 4. Each bedroom has an alarm clock and the Kitchen clock was inspected after getting this review and determined it needed replaced 5. The TVs and Sound bar have been inspected since review and all are working fine, no prior issues and none since. 7. We did inspect upstairs shower exhaust fan/light since review and both working but went ahead and replaced bulb anyways 8. The condo met our Cleaning inspection prior to arrival and was cleaned equally top to bottom as normal for the next guest and reinspected passing our requirements 9. The furniture throughout the condo is less than 5yrs old and we recently replaced the dining set and bedspreads on the 3 beds since this post. We are always making necessary updates and replacements for our rentals 10. The upstairs has 2 night stands lamps, overhead ceiling fan/light, closet light, Loft light on the beam above the room PLUS vanity lights in bathroom next to bedroom so PLENTY of Light options upstairs. 11. The Facility Fee went from $15 to $17 a day July 2016 all internet profiles and all documents to guests were updated. This was emailed to the client with their Final Confirmation instructions 3 months prior to arrival 12. The Homeowners Assoc handles all Pest Control on the resort with quarterly sprays and upon the sight of anything. We had this condo re-sprayed and baited since this review. Again, no prior issues and none since. We DID Discount this guest greatly for the inconvenience of the Seawall foundation repairs that affected 6 of the 10 night stay.

Perfect for a family on a budget

I took my family of five (2 boys 18 and 16, and a 12 year old girl) to this unit and we were all happy with it The architecture/look is a bit dated, but it was clean. We did not have daily maid service and did the day-to-day cleaning ourselves. The key factor was the price, which was low enough that we were able to stay for several more days on our budget. We wound up staying for two weeks.

The grounds were well-kept and the pools had several BBQ's around them for public use. There is a supermarket nearby and, yes, groceries are more expensive than on the mainland. But it is still the most economical way to go. And the kids really appreciated the home-cooked meals every now then.

10 - 15 minute drive to great snorkel spots on the north end. Short drives to Kanapali and Lahaina for shopping and dining. And a pool and hot tub if you don't want to drive. We jumped in the pool before bed nearly every night. Beautiful sunsets from your lanai or the seawall on the property. The resort does really not have a beach, but you can walk south a few minutes and find a nice sandy beach to lie on and waves to play in.

Only one bathroom for five people, made it kind of tight, but the bathroom has a pocket door between the sink and the shower so two people can use at the same time and still have privacy. The shower fixtures looked pretty new and worked well.

Wouldn't recommend this unit for elderly or frail because: 1) the toilet rocked a little and you could lose your balance, 2) the stairway to the loft is steep and narrow. It is a 4th floor unit, but there is an elevator, so you can avoid the stairs if you wish.

All in all a great value and that allowed us to stay and enjoy Maui longer.
