Property type condo
Minimum Stay 5 - 15 nights

About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom +Sofa bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Kona Isle is a small ocean front complex located one and a half miles from the little town of Kona-Kailua. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, fastidiously maintained and very quiet and tranquil. A perfect location from which to explore the Big Island.

Located on the second floor corner of an ocean front building, the condo offers sweeping ocean views, as well as quiet and security. Enjoy meals on the lanai using the completely furnished kitchen or watch the sunset as you BBQ at the waters edge. Watch whales and dolphins jump just off shore, swim in our heated pool or enjoy the adjacent salt-water sea pool.

The bedroom has an extremely comfortable king size bed and there is a queen-size sofa sleeper in the living room. There are cooling ocean breezes and ceiling fans for comfort as well as AC available

The remodeled bathroom provides a walk in shower as well as an exterior window for ventilation.

There is secure high speed internet in the unit as well as free local and long distant calls to the mainland and Canada.

The town of Kailua-Kona about 1 and 1/2 miles away offers restaurants, groceries and shopping opportunities. There are many golf courses on the island and Royal Kona Resort has tennis courts available. One of the best snorkeling areas in the islands is a short 2 mile drive south.

I hope you enjoy my little slice of paradise as much as I do.

About Ann Oliver

I am a Walnut Creek, CA resident who enjoys escaping the Bay Area for respite in Kona-Kailua.

Ann Oliver purchased this condo in 2004

Why Ann Oliver chose Kailua-Kona

We had enjoyed vacationing at Kona Isle many times and when this ocean front second floor unit became available, we jumped on it. The condo had been recently remodeled, but we have continued make upgrades. We recently installed a granite countertop in the kitchen. The washer/dryer are relatively new as is the refrigerator.

What makes this condo unique

I frequently play tennis at the nearby Royal Kona Tennis Club. We also like walking to local restaurants for breakfast or lunch, but find we most enjoy BBQing oceanside at our complex for sunset dinners.

We take much pride in our condo and endeavour to maintain it so that every guest finds it more than satisfactory.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"A very excellent condo & a most interesting island= a very wonderful vacation.

Thank you so much for sharing your Hawaiian home with other people. We have enjoyed every minute of our stay...."

Amazing Hawaiian Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My mother and I spent several days in this beautiful condo looking out over the Hawaiian ocean. The condo was perfectly clean and offered all the amenities we needed to cook our own meals and enjoy relaxing on the patio. The other people staying in the neighboring condos were friendly, and we enjoyed chatting with many people by the communal BBQs, which are right next to the water. This is a simple wonderful place to stay.

Almost loved it.

  • 4 of 5

I have stayed at several units at Kona Isle over the years including this one. All in all very satisfied with a couple of exceptions. We could not find a toaster or toaster oven if there was one in the unit. A larger issue was what we found in the washing machine. There was moldy smelly gunk under the main gasket. Quite disgusting. We cleaned it out as best we could, something we should not have to do with our precious vacation time especially with the rather hefty cleaning fee we paid. Lastly we could not get the A.C. to blow cold air and could not turn off the ceiling fan in the living room. Maybe more detailed instructions would have helped or maybe it's my aging brain.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your observations. I'm sorry that you did not call me or Sunquest and request that they remedy these situation. We could have provided a toaster, had the cleaning company clean the washer, and help with the AC and fan. I take complaints seriously and will work to remedy the situation.

Quiet and Replaxing Place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this unit for 11 days in August. We enjoyed everything about the unit. The location is great and the views are great from the lanai in the morning. Our only issue is regarding the AC. It was 90 degrees each day we were there and the unit has AC as marketed, but the owner has put a 60 minute timer on it. I emailed Ann about this and received a response I wouldn't consider helpful. They noted that they put a timer to prevent people from leaving the AC on when they are not in the unit and our bodies will accumulate in a couple days. My thoughts on this is....this is why we install thermostats in homes to monitor the temperature when we are not there and the unit will shut off once a temperature is achieved. The first night we showed up it was over 90 degrees in the unit and we struggled to get it cool. The living area cools quickly, but the bedroom in the back is what struggles to keep cool even when the fans are running. Overall, everything was great about the unit and we really enjoyed our stay, but the lack of AC was frustrating.

5 star location 3 star unit

  • 3 of 5

This is a 5 star location with a 5 star view unfortunately it was a 3 star unit. It is in dire need of updates and some love. The bedding, especially the pillows need to be replaced. The microwave is in bad shape and needs replaced. We cooked almost every meal using all aspects of the kitchen. Everything worked and we found enough tool, pans, pots and dishes to make meals happen. There seemed to be a lot of mismatched kitchenware most of it needing to be updated. We search many properties before choosing this one. One of our criteria was AC. While there was AC in the unit it was only enough to cool the front room and not the bedroom. Air flow and ceiling fans were not sufficient to cool the bedroom. It was hot while we were there and we ended up having to sleep on the not so nice pullout sleeper couch. Not comfortable and needs updated. While I understand the need to have some sort of control over the AC an hour timer with no hold selection was quit annoying when trying to sleep at night. It would click off and get hot every hour. My intention is not complain about someone's home but feel it necessary to provide feedback about our experience. We weighed heavily on other's comments and may have chosen differently if I read this review.
