lovely historic beach house

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Shore Acres was really great. The house is really big and really clean. The kitchen has anything you could need to cook for a large family and the dining room can accommodate a large family as well. There is also a sun room with tables for lunches. The living room is cozy and the bedrooms upstairs feel warm and cozy too. The beds in all 4 of the bedrooms are really comfortable. We all slept really well. The yard is great to hang out in. My kids 3 and 5 were out there playing all the time having a great time. My husband loved the fire pit and loved to sit out in the yard. It's a one minute walk down the road to a beautiful state Park beach. In the evenings I walked there with my little ones and hunted for interesting rocks and shells on the beach, and searched for crabs in the seaweed mounds. It's a gorgeous place. This house is not in the tourist hustle and bustle. It's mellow and serene which I loved about it. We could go to Bar Harbor and Acadia whenever and it wasn't a lot of traveling at all. It's just close enough. CW and Marcia own the house. I feel like we got to know them quite well while we were there. I can tell you they are gracious hosts who go out of their way to make you feel welcome, to make sure you have what you need and make sure you are comfortable. We shared quite a lot of laughs. They are warm genuine people, full of personality and I'm glad I got to know them. Our stay at Shore acres was really great. I highly recommend it. Thank you CW and Marcia! ☺

Great location.

Short drives to many scenic locations. Nice old home. Plenty of history and lovely groinds. On beautiful Frenchman's Bay. WIFI was weak and very small TV. Enjoyed our first trip to Maine

Owner's Response: We apologize to our valued guests again for not being on site during their visit,to correct any areas that may have required attention. The initial reservation was made for arrival the 12th. At the request of this guest we rearranged the booking to commence the 15th due to hurricane warnings and airline cancellations. Had these folks arrived as originally scheduled, the areas of concern may have been corrected while we were still available. We have two rentals both with the same size TV screen. In 22 years, we have never prior to this time, had a complaint regarding the size of the TV. We will certainly consider a larger screen TV to be added to the budget in the 2018 season. For future guests, I may add, this is rural Maine, unlike suburbia USA. To have even a weak WiFi signal is good. Not to have a signal, requires us to look for the beauty in Acadia National Park, and the tranquility of Lamoine Beach on Frenchman Bay. This is not down town honky-tonk noisy Bar Harbor. Yes, at 222 years old, the house which is on The National Register of Historic Places, is dated. Some folks refer to it as a living history or residing in a museum. Like a smart man once said. Ya can't please all of the people all of the time, or even some of the people some of the time. But if you can please some of the folks some of the time, you have found a winner. We ask potential future guests to make a reservation and see for yourself. We value you confidence in us.

Back in time

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much CW and Marcia for a memorable first time visit to the beautiful state of Maine! Your kind of hospitality made us truly feel "at home". We took to heart every suggestion you both made for what to see and where to eat and were never disappointed. The grounds of Shore Acres are lovely and so peaceful! The only thing we did not get to enjoy due to weather (and the exhaustion we old folks deal with) was the fire pit. We would have loved to burn some of that great wood stacked in the shed!

As for the house, it was a real treat to "live history". Although her age is showing, Shore Acres housed us well.

Beautiful historic home full of character

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful home with our family and another family we were traveling with and had a very good time. The home has a lot of history and it was fun to have been able to stay here. CW and Marcia were wonderful hosts. It was great chatting with CW and learning about the home and getting recommendations for things to do in the area. This is a beautiful area to visit and is nearby Acadia National Park. If you are planning to be in the Lamoine/Bar Harbor area, I would definitely recommend staying at the charming Shore Acres Lodge.

Owner's Response: These were two great families with three children each all either 8 or under. All the children were well behaved and interacted with their piers and respectful to their parents. We were very pleased. Welcome back anytime.

Delightful, clean, comfortable and restful!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of seven, 2 adults and 5 kids (9-18 yrs), all had a marvelous and memorable time at Shore Acres. We made good use of the fire pit, played croquet and boccie outside, and enjoyed many games around the dining room table.

The location is peaceful. Our family went beachcombing every day at Lamoine Beach and made several excursions to Acadia and Bar Harbor. We've been renting homes for our family vacations the last couple summers and always had great experiences, but this was our best rental yet. A few of my children said it was their favorite vacation ever and—like Johnny Cash—we've been everywhere man!

Speaking of everywhere, CW's Model T ride was a great adventure. CW and Marcia are a fantastic, welcoming and hospitable couple. They are kind, generous and communicative. Shore Acres comes with my highest recommendation.
