About Shawn Robinette
We moved to Maine in 1997 from Seattle. We own a coffee shop/bakery in Southwest Harbor by the name of Milagro Coffee & Espresso.
Shawn Robinette purchased this Cottage in 1998
Why Shawn Robinette chose Surry
The Acadia area of Maine is one of the prettiest areas in the country. Once you get here you will know immediately why we decided to settle here.
What makes this Cottage unique
Staying at our unique beach cottage is like living on a houseboat but without the rocking motion. The cottage is built right on the beach. In fact at high tide the water comes all the way up to the seawall. Looking out across the bay is so peaceful and calming. The majority of our bookings at this cottage are from repeat customers.

Beautiful Cottage Built Right on Beach
The cottage is very comfortable, well furnished and in a great location away from the cruise ships and bus tours of Bar Harbor. Great location for exploring Acadia and the Blue Hill Peninsula. Perry's Lobster Shack just down the road is a bonus! This beautiful cottage is well worth the stay!
Adorable Cottage on the Coast
My husband and I loved, loved, loved this house! Shawn (one of the owners) was an amazing host and easy to work with. We had to cancel two days of our stay and though there was a four day minimum, Shawn was able to find people to rent the two days we could not be there. Incredible! Now...on to the cottage. The house is right on the water. The tides come up so close to the house at certain times, it almost feels like you are staying on a super nice house boat. When the tide is out though, you can walk forever along the beach searching for treasure. The house has a very unique layout. Master bedroom on top. You walk into the kitchen and dining room on the main level (bathroom here too). The bottom level is the living room and another bedroom that opens into the living area. There is a spiral staircase that leads you up and down. I loved the stairs and it added to the charm, but if you have trouble getting around or small children under 5, probably not a good place to stay. The decorations and furniture are high end and very "Maineish!" The kitchen has everything you need for cooking and cleaning. Tv's in kitchen, living room and master bedroom. Wifi works good too. We loved that you could walk about two minutes down the street to a restaurant that also sells live lobsters to take home and cook. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood and the closest town is a 20 minute drive. I would say no more than 4 people should stay at this house. The owners have a bakery on Desert Island and left us some coffee, a sweat treat and a personalized note from the store. Very kind and very welcoming! Thanks for letting us stay in your beautiful home and we hope to be back next year!
BRING YOUR BINOCULARS!!!!!!
This "home" was the most fantastic place I have ever stayed. The decor & charm...which starts in the driveway.....actually brought me to tears! We had all kinds of daytrips planned, but we ended up never leaving.....excepts for walks on the beach! While sitting on the deck, I watched the wild life for HOURS!!!!! I saw; porpoise, seals, kingfishers, eagles, many ducks, seagulls, & loons! Walked to the nearby pier where we ate boiled lobsters....that JUST came off the boat....and homemade blueberry pie! The next nite we cooked steaks on the grill, sipped champagne, and watched the sun set!
The cottage had EVERYTHING we needed & more! Three Tv's, a full kitchen wanting for nothing AND, the place was IMMACULATE! We even had fresh pastry & coffee beans waiting for us from the owner's coffee/bakery shop! So thoughtful! The kingsize bed was like sleeping on a cloud! Was teary when we left but felt like I had been to a spa retreat , ready to face the world again!
Worth the drive! Would recommend this place HIGHLY! It's truly a special spot!
Thanks Shawn & Brian
The home was perfect for our small family. The location was amazing & the owners were extremely accomdating. We're already making plans for next year!
Great Home Base
We loved our stay in Surry, ME at Watermark. The home was very peaceful and quiet, well maintained and perfectly appointed with nice furnishings and super comfy bed and linens. We didn't need anything while here. It was relaxing to watch the boats come and go, as well as the tide come in and out, and the seals swimming out front. Even the birds and the chipmunks were entertaining! Our concern about walking down a spiral staircase in the middle of the night (to use the restroom) turned out fine, we just kept a low light on downstairs and took our time. Watermark is well situated in the area, an easy drive to all points like MDI, Acadia Natl Park, small towns and eateries. Of course we took advantage of Perry's Lobster Shack within walking distance. Ate there as well as cooked our own on several occasions. Thank you for a wonderful week!
A Peaceful Refuge...
The Watermark Cottage we cannot say enough about. From the moment you step out of your car and walk on the beautifully landscaped path of perennials to the door
while viewing the seascape running along the property you feel immediately a sense of...Ahhhh I am finally on vacation. Then you open the door of the home and you are greeted by a note and a bakery box of the most delicious homemade muffins ever from Milagro the owners bakery and coffee shop located in Southwest Harbor. You look around and you are standing in an open concept living space impeccably clean and decorated to perfection with direct views of the inlet and Acadia Nat Park. A spiral staircase takes you up to the master bedroom/loft or down to another living space with a bedroom and living room with views of the water and access through patio doors to the concrete seawall deck furnished with a picnic table and chairs...perfect to view the busy natural world of harbor seals, eagles, and many of other birds and fish. The cottage is the perfect launch off place to discover the wonders of Acadia Nat. Park. A short walk to Perry's Lobster Dock enables you to gorge on the freshest lobster right off the local fishing boats. We enjoyed the restaurants in Ellsworth. We also enjoyed a trip to Bar Harbor and saw the whales. We highly recommend Watermark Cottage for a relaxing vacation retreat and hope to return again in the near future.
