About John Donahoe
I am a licensed architect and professional musician. You can find me playing saxophone and electric violin at various venues in the southern Maine lakes region during the summer season. Durning the remainder of the year I am performing in and around Nashville, TN. Stop by and say hello.
John Donahoe purchased this House in 2005
Why John Donahoe chose Naples
As a licensed architect, when I saw this property I immediately recognized that this would be an excellent lake house for extended families to share. It is large enough that up to 13 people can sleep here (11 on main floor and 2 more in basement) and quite often we find that it is shared by relatives of two or more families. The lower level allows for additional privacy and separate sleeping area and extra bathroom as well as a game room with a ping pong table.
What makes this House unique
The ability to go by boat to three different lakes (Brandy Pond, Sebago Lake and Long Lake)makes this a unique location. One of the top 2 lakes in Maine!

Great lake home!
As we wrapped up our stay at the cabin, we all agreed that it exceeded our expectations. This was our first three-generations vacation together, so we weren't sure what to expect. The cabin more than met all of our needs. The layout of kitchen, living area and dining area was very open, giving plenty of room for all of us to be together. The kitchen was very well equipped. We initially had an issue with mustiness in the basement, but running the dehumidifier took care of that nicely. We happened to stay during a week of abnormally hot weather, but the easy access to the lake just meant everyone played in the water more.
We would definitely recommend staying here!
So glad this worked out for your three family stay. And yes, your stay was during one of the hottest weeks on record in Maine. Please come back and visit again.
Great vacation home!
As we wrapped up our week long stay at the cabin, everyone agreed that it exceeded our expectations. This was our first 3 generation family vacation together and we weren't sure what to expect. The cabin more than met all of our needs. The openness of the kitchen/ living area was perfect for all of us gathering together for meals, games, conversation. The kitchen is very well equipped. The easy access to the lake was ideal - everyone was able to enjoy time in the water, even our 3 year old. The basement area was somewhat musty, but we ran the dehumidifier as recommended and it was great after the first day or so. The ping pong table was a real bonus as far as the kids were concerned! The weather was much warmer than normal but we were able to stay comfortable with fans and the place would cool off nicely at night.
We would definitely recommend this place! We had a great time and will be talking about this vacation for a long time!
Thank you for your great review. We try very hard to make everyone comfortable and happy. We will be building a new deck on the lake side of the house this fall (2018) with great waterfront views,so please come back and enjoy our rental home once again.
Provides the basics
The Ponderosa provides a number of positives. It has ample sleeping space, a convenient location and a nice waterfront for swimming and sitting to enjoy the lake breezes. Also, the owner was great. He was very accommodating when issues came up (we had problems with the wireless connection and with the dryer)
The biggest drawback was that there is no comfortable outdoor space near the house - no deck, porch or patio. The only comfortable outdoor seating is by the lake - which is a long walk (up and down a big hill) from the house. The double picture window provides a nice view of the lake but closes off the airflow. As a result the house was stuffy even when the outdoor temps were comfortable. Another negative was the amenities were sparse for a house in this price range. There were just basic kitchen supplies and furniture (one TV, a couple of uncomfortable couches). The downstairs area was practically bare (a couple of couches and a table sitting in an otherwise empty room). The downstairs bath has a toilet, sink and shower but is not really finished (open ceiling with exposed pipes, water heater in the bathroom). Finally, the yard is long, narrow and steep, so there is not really a location for outdoor activities. The photos at the site do not really capture this.
We had a nice stay at the Ponderosa, as we always do in Maine. If you just need lots of space and good swimming, this is a good option - adequate but not spectacular.
Great stay on Long Lake!
This house was perfect for what we were looking for on Long Lake. You cannot beat the location. Private lakefront, close to the Naples causeway - watching the Songa River Queen float by and watching the Seaplanes land and take off.
John, the owner was great to deal with. He made it very easy and gave us plenty of information to help us prepare for our stay.
The house itself is in good shape. The 3 bedrooms upstairs are spread out and give enough privacy. The kitchen and living area upstairs has everything you need. Love having he ping pong table downstairs for the kids. The basement is wide open, and we let the kids sleep down there.
Overall - we had a great time and would definitely stay at this house again.
Thanks so much for your kind review. I’m always pleased to hear our guests had a great time.
Overall the house was perfect. The location was ideal. With minutes you're down town Naples with the right stores for food shopping and country little stores, and the causeway with bars, if you're looking to get out of the house. The house layout was awesome with a great eat in kitchen for serving all the guests. There was plenty of sleeping for everyone. Being right on the water is key, especially if you like fishing off the dock or have your own boat, just be prepared for the work out walking back up the hill. All in all I would definitely rent this property again in the future before it sells.
We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Come on back when you can.
My family has been very familiar with this area for many years and have stayed multiple times on various lakes and ponds nearby. When we needed to find a place to stay, on fairly short notice to join family for a celebration of life for my brother, who passed away in April, this home definitely met our needs. Dogs, kids and adults were accommodated nicely. The owner was attentive, but not intrusive, and we had a great stay. The weather even cooperated with no rain except the day we arrived! There is a nice lakeside area with a dock, picnic table and fire area. Well equipped kitchen, a brand new TV, and plenty of seating for all completed the living area with an awesome lake view. Would definitely stay again.
We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay. We recently updated many items including some furniture, new carpet in the basement, new paint and some new kitchen items, new gas grill, plus we added a large wooden section to our dock. We have also added landscaping. So glad you enjoyed the updates.
Located in the heart of the Maine Lakes Region.
