Shoddy apartment pretending to be a vacation rental
To be fair to the owner, the photos on VRBO are accurate as far as they go. The problem is all the things you don’t see in the photos, including:
*The rotting, paint-splattered stairs leading up to the unit;
*The numerous housekeeping issues we encountered when we arrived, including an empty San Pellegrino can full of cigarette ashes outside the front door, a used Q-Tip on the bathroom counter, missing light bulbs in the lamps, and a broken cigarette inside one of the dresser drawers;
*The bed sheet used as a window covering in the master bedroom;
*The fact that there were only two bath towels in the entire apartment, neither of which seemed to have been washed recently (we used our own);
*The streaked, filthy, cracked windows;
*The lack of central heat in the main living area (we were told to “just use a space heater”);
*The random junk piled up in several of the closets and kitchen cabinets;
*The owner’s son, who barged in on us without knocking or announcing himself even though it was an hour after check-in time and our two cars with out of state plates were parked very conspicuously in front of the unit;
*The multiple pornographic movies saved on the DVR;
*The elderly gentleman living downstairs who shouted random obscenities at the top of his lungs from time to time;
*The loud conversations taking place downstairs at 2:00 - 3:00 am, presumably among people congregating after the bars closed, which were clearly audible through the thin walls and uninsulated windows.
Our stay here was thoroughly unpleasant from beginning to end. We spent most of our time hanging out at Starbucks in Napa, going to see movies we weren’t really interested in, and even taking road trips and paying double for overnight accommodations, pretty much anything we could think of that would let us get away from this place for a few hours. Napa Valley needs affordable housing, and that’s what this unit should be used for. Passing it off as a “designer getaway” at these inflated rates is a bad joke.
As the guests mentioned my photos are accurate. This has been totally gutted and remodeled with beautiful hardwood floors throughout and granite kitchen and bathroom and vanity counters. Every room was freshly painted and all new kitchen appliances. We were about to have the outside stairs sanded and painted when the Napa Valley fire happened. We have replaced some planks and are planning to paint the stairs and deck. These guests never called or mentioned anything to me about any problems about the unit. They called my Son about the TV which he was happy to help them. Speaking of TV , I texted the woman because she added her name to my Netflicks. Now EVERY time I go to view something on Netflicks I have to see her name. Can you imagine if every renter did this. I have three rentals. I would see their two dusty cars out front most of the time. When they left I was tempted to keep part of the deposit because they broke the ice maker and it's a new refrigerator.. it was taped together. The bathroom was gross and filthy not only in the toilet but on the toilet seat. They didn't clean anything for the whole month I guess. I have cleaning things in the unit. I have eight towels not just two.?. This a new rental and it's terrible that they write this one star review. My other rentals are both five star. It is ver reasonable just $100. A night. The hotel rooms across the street are $1200. A night. This is a great place in charming Yountville and is a gem please give it a try. Thanks, Sally
