About the property

Newly constructed 2 BDR, 2 Bath near Alto Pass on Shawnee Wine Trail

Cave Creek is a peaceful little stream running through our two acre wooded property. We invite you to sit at the drink rail on the upper deck and listen to the relaxing sounds of the creek.

Newly constructed on the western edge of the Shawnee Wine Trail, our cabin is close to the many activities, wineries or restaurants the region has to offer. Enjoy the orchard blooms in the spring and in summer and fall, the bountiful harvest is available at the orchard stores. Our cabin offers the perfect accommodations for a family reunion, pre-wedding event, wedding weekend or a quite, relaxing getaway with friends.

Beautiful custom wood features and furniture made from reclaimed wood throughout make the cabin unique. The cabin is multi level with two large covered decks overlooking Cave Creek. A spacious 1500 sq ft, the cabin can sleep up to 8 guests, with a full kitchen and two full baths. The kitchen, dining area for 8, and living area with gas fireplace are located on the entry level. A bedroom, with queen bed, bath and sleeper sofa are located on each level. A family area, board games and game table, DVD/CD player are located on the lower level.

A dusk to dawn security light illuminates the parking area and cabin entry. A fire pit and grilling area are located on the creek side of the cabin. Due to the recent construction, grass and landscaping are limited. However, Mother Nature provided a rocky brook and plenty of room to wander.

Just north of Alto Pass, off Highway 127 on a quiet country lane, our property is located in the midst of orchard property making it a tranquil setting. There's tons of great hiking trails or good fishing nearby. About Roger

Raised in rural Southern Illinois in a family that loved to camp and fish, I enjoyed the beauty of this region long before attending SIU. In adult life, I've been both a home builder and a woodworker. I also love good wine, good food and meeting people. And that's how the vision for Cave Creek Cabin emerged. The home builder wanted the cabins functional and comfortable. The woodworker wanted the beautiful wood features. But mostly, I wanted a great place for people to gather and relax.

Way more than a "cabin"

  • 5 of 5

New construction, very well thought out and built - and CLEAN. Great for one family, a few couples to share one cabin, or multiple families to rent both. Roger not only built the cabins, but the furniture inside as well! Very comfortable, in a quiet, very private setting. The owners are clearly attentive to the property.

Owner's Response: We thought a lot about the things we would like to find at a rental property and tried to include them in ours. There is nothing better than a property where you can just kick back and relax. Glad to hear your stay was comfortable and thanks for the great review.

Great cabin for the wine trail

  • 5 of 5

We were impressed with the cabin this weekend. Right on the wine trail with easy access to the highway. Short drive to Murphysboro too. Plenty of space for two couples and we could've easily put two more in as well. Very clean, nice looking. If I can suggest anything needed it would maybe be having a hair dryer available, but that's all we could really think to add. We'll likely be back in the future!

Beautiful woodland cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful stay - very clean and comfortable cabin, nice appliances and stocked kitchen. Only downside was no wifi or dishwasher. Such a beautiful location as well!

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay. It's peaceful on our wooded property and the leaves should be in full color soon. We plan to offer wifi to our guests as a future amenity. In our rural setting, the only offerings available at a usable speed are surprisingly expensive, so they were outside of our startup budget. We've had some guests who commented their family experience was better without it, so there can be upsides to being offline, too.

Owner's Response: Thank you for reviewing our property. We're glad you appreciated our custom, artisan crafted furniture. Our craftsman spent a lot of time creating wood features and furniture that reflected the beauty of the wood. On your next visit look for the book matched trim on the doors and windows.

Great location, nice new cabin

  • 5 of 5

The location of the cabins is in a perfect area to enjoy the wine trail, the Bald knob Cross and have access to good restaurants and food within a short drive. The cabins are beautiful and truly have everything you need! There is a large selection of utensils and cookware if you want to cook. The layout of the cabin is perfect for couples or two families and is very secluded. The sounds of the creek and the beezes through the trees make sitting on the large deck such a relaxing experience. No better place to have your morning coffee! This is glamping at it's best!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review. We are so glad you had a good time. And yes, sitting out on the deck listening to the wind blow through the trees and the sound of the creek is also our favorite spot too.

Map

Car: necessary

On the western side of the Shawnee Wine Trail, we are just outside Alto Pass and close to Bald Knob Cross of Peace. Cave Creek Cabins are located between Pomona Natural Bridge and Trail of Tears State Parks. Close to great hiking at the Little Grand Canyon or good fishing at Cedar Lake. Cedar Lake also has a great hiking trail around the lake with beautiful views, bluffs and a waterfall after the rain. If you are a thrill seeker, there is a great Zip Line Adventure close by in the Shawnee or learn to repel in Giant City State Park. You could go horseback riding or take a pottery class at nearby Alto Pass Clay Works. Enjoy the harvest bounty from our neighbors at the Rendleman Orchard Farm Store, where you can get fresh picked produce (or maybe just some famous apple cider donuts) in season. Did you know there was a Darn Hot Pepper farm and a lavender farm close by? There are also several good golf courses in our region. And in the summer you could take in a Southern Illinois Miners baseball game. On August 21, 2017, join us in Southern Illinois for prime viewing of the total Eclipse. So in addition to the great wineries and growing number of breweries, there are a lot of activities to enjoy in Southernmost Illinois. Come and visit us soon.
