Located halfway along the coast between the resort towns of Poipu and Koloa Town on the South shore and Hanalei and Princeville on the North shore, making it a great starting point to explore the entire island. The property sits on 12 beachfront acres and offers plenty of amenities and entertainment options such as lighted tennis courts, basketball goals, a croquet lawn, shuffleboard courts, putting green, workout room, and refreshing pool with hot tub. The resort provides equipment that can be checked out as well.

This complex is literally within a 3 minute walk of downtown Kapaa, which provides numerous shops, restaurants, and bars for easy access and convenience

Why Bill & Georgia Hammond chose Kapaa

Our 2nd floor unit is located in the Pono Kai Resort, located within easy walking distance to Kapaa Town with all sorts of restaurants and shops. The resort itself has many amenities and conveniences to help you enjoy your stay.

One of the nice things about this unit is that it is located on the 2nd floor with the lanai in the front. This configuration accomplishes several things: (1) it provides you an elevated and unobstructed view of the ocean, (2) enhanced breeze from the ocean, (3) extra level of security in being able to leave the front sliding glass door open, and (4) the building has an elevator so you do not have to deal with the steps!

What makes this condo unique

Additionally, Kapaa is centrally located on the East Shore equal distance between North and South Shores which makes it perfect as a base of operations to explore the island.

This unit is NOT air conditioned. However, because of its location (50 yards from the ocean), and facing East it always catches the trade winds with a very comfortable cross breeze through the unit. Additionally, the living room and bedroom have ceiling fans and free standing tower fans that keep everything nice and comfy. Give us a call if you have questions.

"Our recent 18 day stay in Bill and Georgia Hammond’s unit was outstanding. We have stayed in this unit in years past and have always enjoyed our stay. Bill and Georgia are new owners of this condo but certainly not new to being rental owners. They have another unit on the island as well. Upon our initial arrival to the unit there was a letter from the Hammonds asking for an opportunity to meet us. The Hammonds live on Kauai. We did meet and so enjoyed our visit. We found the Hammonds to be “givers”. They exude the Aloha spirit. Having the owners live on the island is so beneficial to all who stay here. When you have a need, you call them directly, and you can be sure that whatever the need is, it will be responded to immediately. .

The unit we stayed in is ocean front. Not ocean from a distance but the ocean is just a few steps from our unit. Sunrises greeted us every morning along with soft kisses from the gentle trade winds whispering “welcome to paradise”. A walking path in front of our unit runs along the ocean and is several miles in length. It affords locals and visitors alike the opportunity to get exercise and breathe in a lot of the fresh ocean air of Kauai.

Our unit has everything you could possibly want for a short or lengthy stay. The amenities of the resort are many. Exercise room, volleyball, tennis courts, swim pool, etc. The grounds are impeccably kept and with all the foliage that you would expect to find in paradise.

A suggestion: when you are looking for places to eat, be sure to check out Lava Lava where you get to eat next to the ocean on the sand. Dukes is another great place with Happy Hour and Fish Tacos every Tuesday. In Kappa you will want to check out the Olympic cafe and the Kountry Kitchen. Hint: Look for the places where the locals eat. You will never be without places to see and events to attend. A visit to the Kilauea Light House is a must along with a visit to Old Koloa Town, Hanalei, Waimea Canyon, etc. You can see young hulu dancers at the Coconut Market Place a couple of times a week. It is free

The Hammond’s unit is perfectly located as a starting place for visiting all parts of the island. Kappa is rich with a history of the island and provides you with glimpses and tastes of yesteryear on the island. Thank you Bill and Georgia for the great memories, service and friendship. Mahalo!

We were here for two weeks and found this unit to be one of the best places we have stayed in Kauai. Nicely decorated, well equipped, well located for evening strolls along the beach and access to a number of restaurants. We highly recommend it for your Kauai stay.

Beautiful view

Great location, very friendly and helpful staff. Really nice welcome basket from Bill and Georgia, and information we received was very helpful. It was nice to have the pull out bed open for late arrivals, however the ductape holding it together was a real headache. We had to peel the bedding off the tape to pull the bed out every night. Just a reminder to others, DO remember to take the trash out daily as the information you will receive says. We missed one day, and had ants.. not a lot of ants, just one or two here and there... not a big deal for us.

Nice find!

This VRBO is just steps from the water and bike/walking trail in the town of Kapaa. This condo is in a modest resort that has well kept grounds. Kapaa is a busy area. The condo is within walking distance of many stores and restaurants. The resort staff was accommodating and friendly. The owner Bill Hammond was very attentive and quickly responded to questions we had which we very much appreciated. Good instructions were well communicated as to how to get to and into the condo. A lovely gift basket and note were on the counter upon arrival. There was no air conditioner so with the humidity there was a musty smell (I believe from the carpet which was a bit dirty). If the carpet was replaced by a hard surface floor I would have given this VRBO a 5 rating. If you want to be right on the ocean in the town of Kapaa this is a good choice.

Couldn't have had a better experience

Great location and exactly as described. Property was further enhanced by the gracious host, Bill. Pre-arrival information was very thorough and helpful, everything from what to expect as far as kitchen supplies to favorite hikes and eateries in the area. Bill even texted us about 15 minutes after arrival to make sure everything was OK. The personalized welcome basket of goodies was a real nice touch.

We have stayed in a half dozen or so owner-rentals in the past and cannot recall an experience as seemless as this one. In the past we have had great properties, but poor owner communication. Or we have had barely adequate accomodations but great owner communication. This is the first time that both sides of the equation excelled. I am a rather picky renter but I cannot think of a single thing that I would have changed about our stay in unit C-204. It was quiet, well equipped, location was spot-on, and felt like home.

We recommend this unit, and especially the owner, with our highest regard. We will be back. Mahalo.

Wonderful place, wonderful time

I can not say enough how great BIll and Gorgia were. They were in contact with us and added some very personalized touches. The fitness center there is kinda small but had weights and plenty of equipment and every time I was there I had it all to myself. And the smell of the condo was amazing! No airfresheners noted, just a nice clean and natural smell. Some piles of dirt outside which is clearly outside of the property owners control. Great location! A positive experience and comfy bed!

Quite frankly, one of the strongest points of this condo is its location within 50 yards of the ocean and a 1/4 mile walk to bars and restaurants in the town of Kapaa. Even though you are this close to town, you still do not have road noise because of all the units in the complex you are right next to the ocean. It is truly the best of all worlds.
