Loved this historic home!!
This vintage beauty was so much fun for our large family to stay in - plenty of space for everyone with 5 wonderful large rooms to gather in downstairs (not to mention the wrap-around front porch) and 6 bedrooms upstairs! I enjoyed looking through some books that showed the history of Indian River, including the original owners of this home. It was also fun to watch the boats drift down the river across the street. Really the only complaints we had were due to the fact that this IS an historic home. We didn't realize there was no a/c, and despite the fact that this home has huge windows everywhere, most of them do not open. So, despite the fact that fans were provided throughout the house, it did get pretty hot up in the bedrooms at night. Also, despite the fact that there are doors aplenty, some were difficult to open due to age/swelling of wood/whatever. I feel like this is something that could be remedied fairly easily, and for safety reasons should be.
We were concerned about our 18-month-old grandchild with the very long staircase, but she actually did really well (plus we discovered, after she had gone home, that there are several baby gates in one of the bedroom closets).
This location is very central to all of northern Michigan. Obviously it's only minutes away from the beautiful Cross in the Woods Shrine, and about 1/2 hour from Gaylord, Petoskey, or Mackinaw City. We also took day trips into the U.P, including Tahquamenon Falls and GarLyn Zoo (love both places).
Although my husband would insist on going during a cooler month, we'd stay here again in a heartbeat!
Very unique and beautiful house! Love the colors and the history...and the huge space!
Great place - loads of rooms and places to explore. Especially good for families with lots of kids.
Great Historic House in a good location
The House is a beautiful Historic home in downtown Indian River.
Burt Lake Marina is 3 mins away and we rented a Pontoon boat 4 days
to enjoy this beautiful Lake. It is 17,000 square feet of Fresh Lake, sand bars
ad a lot of fun!!! Our kids loved it...
Good Ice cream shop, pizza place and Italian restaurant - (Vivio's) downtown.
If you are looking for a small town feel with a big beautiful Lake and a
great house to enjoy - this is the place.
If you are not a boater but just want a beautiful home to hang out in and enjoy the local flare-
this is a great place to stay.
Our annual family vacation was held at this house ! It was beautiful. We felt like we stepped back in time. The house was beautifully restored. We had more than enough bedrooms and space to enjoy our stay. Nice quiet neighborhood. Burt Lake was the perfect spot for a day at the beach. We will be back ! Thank you - The Hulla Family - Centerville, Ohio.
