This lovely and unique bungalow, built in 1904, is located in the historic Old North End district of central Colorado Springs. Just a few miles north of downtown, this safe and quiet neighborhood is only minutes from both Colorado College and UCCS, Penrose Hospital, Patty Jewett golf course, plus multiple parks and trails. With a gorgeous view of Pikes Peak, enjoy the comforts of home at the foot of the glorious Rocky Mountains.
Enjoy the privacy and convenience of a complete home, with easy access to major attractions, and boasting 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a lovely dining room, full kitchen, spacious living room, reading nook, and fenced yard suitable for dogs not prone to escape and/or barking.
In warm weather enjoy the two front porch swings, and walk just a few blocks to the nearest stores, restaurants, and local park. The fenced natural (no pesticides on this lawn!) back yard includes a small patio with a table and chairs for outdoor dining, most comfortable for four, but get cozy and you can squeeze in two more. The patio can be accessed through the mudroom, just off of the kitchen.
The dining room features French doors, a gas fireplace, and is just off of the fully appointed kitchen. The antique dining table expands from seating to six to seating eight so you can enjoy meals at home when you don't feel like going out. This is a great place for family dinners or a nice breakfast while you plan your day of sight-seeing. It would also be a great place to work on a puzzle during your stay if you are puzzle-people.
The kitchen includes a full size refrigerator which holds all the groceries you might need. A second full size refrigerator in the mudroom is great for extras and beverages. The kitchen is appointed with with all of the things you might need to bake and prepare delicious meals including a crock-pot, a griddle, etc. Coffee is provided so that even if you choose not to cook, you can wake up with a cup of joe before heading out for your day.
For book lovers, curl up on one of the two window seats, or in the rear sunroom, and enjoy the extensive collection of books located throughout the house. Those with children will enjoy games, puzzles, and a fenced back yard. Water is previous here so although kept mowed, the yard is fairly natural.
Comfortable seating for 5 means all can enjoy a movie or cable TV in the spacious living room. The sofa includes reclining seats on each end with comfortable leather wing chairs across from the sofa, encouraging conversations and together time.
The utility room includes washer and dryer, and ironing board/iron (if you absolutely MUST do laundry on vacation. ;-) The walk-in shower is located here, just off the kitchen and includes a toilet and extra sink for getting ready. The upstairs bathroom is painted a lovely blue with a luxurious Victorian claw-foot tub, perfect for a relaxing bubble bath or bath time for children.
All three bedrooms are located upstairs with plenty of closet and luggage space. The master bedroom includes a wall-mounted flat-screen TV. Both large bedrooms boast comfy queen beds with a side chair and dressers for those who prefer to unpack rather than live out of a suitcase. The single room includes a brand new single bed suitable for children or a single adult (not great for taller individuals.) A sixth person could sleep on the couch in the living room for a small additional fee. All linens provided, plus soap and shampoo.
Property includes wi-fi and cable plus a DVD player and a selection of movies for you to enjoy.
Dogs considered with pet fee (requires pre-approval.) Although the back yard is fenced, the fence is only 3 feet high, easily jumped by larger or motivated dogs. Dogs must be crated indoors when you are away and out of consideration for the neighbors must not bark. You must scoop the poo.
The house is on a corner lot and includes plenty of safe on-street parking with big old trees lining the boulevards. Those trees DON'T block the view of Pikes Peak and the front porch is a great place to enjoy a sunset.
Long term renters welcome (ideal for those working at downtown medical facilities or nearby universities.)
Absolutely no smoking, candles, or drugs including marijuana and no large or rowdy parties. Dogs must not be allowed to disturb neighbors or damage the property.
The property does include a basement where you can find a cooler to borrow for outings, or if you need to find a broom, but otherwise, the area is best left alone. The stairs are narrow and steep and children must be kept out of the basement. You should find plenty of room in the walk-in closets attached to each bedroom for storing luggage. There are two coat-racks in the dining room for hats, scarves, and jackets you'll want in colder weather.
This historic home features lovely details, but they are historic and the house is not baby-proofed. While we welcome children kids will need supervision on the stairs, near the gas fireplace in the dining room, and kept out of the basement (which is closed off with a door at the top of the stairs.)
Pro-tip: regardless of the season, bring layers and prepare for any weather. Even in the hottest part of a summer, a visit to the top of Pikes Peak requires a coat. In winter, you might enjoy a sunny day in the 60's, with snow the next day. It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get (although with an average of 243 days of sun per year, there's a great chance that even if it's cold, the sun will be shining!) Bring your sunscreen and your lip balm. We are a high desert with low humidity - not great for the skin, but great for keeping the bugs to a minimum. If you're coming from lower elevations, but sure to drink a lot of water in order to reduce the chances of experiencing altitude sickness. This is a real thing, and water makes a huge difference. :-)
We hope you'll choose us for your visit to the Colorado Springs area. We are happy to provide any information we can and you're host looks forward to having you.
