Amazing vacation in ideal home
We had a fantastic time in Puerto Penasco. The house was ideal for our 2 families (7 ppl including 3 kiddos). The only negative was the sliding doors from the 2nd bedroom out to the patio/beach were broken. Other than that, the walk-out to the patio/beach from the living area and master bedroom was so perfect. The house was clean and well kept (and now has new piping from the water tank/pump into the house after it broke on our first day...it was repaired quickly the next day). We didn’t need to run the A/C, but it was there. We cooked and ate several meals there and the kitchen was well stocked with cookware, dishware, utensils and tools...and a nice big table and enough chairs for us all. The front courtyard has a propane BBQ that we used a couple times too. The SmartTV streamed Netflix perfectly fine, the DishTV worked and the internet worked well too. There was even a selection of DVDs.
The beach was beautiful—sandy (no rocks), clean, tons of shells and very little seaweed. The neighborhood felt completely safe—we slept with beachside doors and windows open. We’d not been to Playa Encanto before, so the drive into town was a bit further than expected (20+ min), but wasn’t bad once we got familiar with it.
The only other negative besides the sliding door (and the water break) was that we didn’t receive formal detailed information for the place until about 3:00 on the day we were to check-in at 4:00. By then we were already across the border and without (free) cell service. I had to turn on my international roaming and exchange some texts with the local management company to get directions. Once on wifi, the emails popped up with address and details. Not sure if that was a VRBO issue or an owner/manager issue, but would have been nice to have all that at least the day before. (Also, some of the last minute info revealed that you must bring your own towels—not just for beach, but bathroom too.)
Overall though, fantastic! Definitely recommend the place (already have to one set of friends) and will likely try to book again in the future.
Beautiful home, wonderful vacation
We had a fantastic time during our Spring Break. The home fit our needs for our group of 7 perfectly. Beds were comfortable, linens were higher end. Someone met us here upon our arrival to greet us and see if we had any questions. There was also fresh salsa and tortillas waiting for us. The house was very clean, zero sand inside even though renters had checked out the morning we arrived. Also, the master shower is the best shower we've ever had on the beach in our 15+ years of vacationing to Rocky Point.
Don't let my rating of 4/5 deter you from renting. I couldn't go 5/5 because the pictures from the listing are somewhat misleading. The description of a full and queen bed on the second bedroom was wrong. Queen, yes, full, no. It was a twin bed in with the queen. It didn't effect us, but the next renters might be put in a jam. Also, the board steps across the soft sand that lead to the beach are no longer there. There are no lounge chairs to lay horizontally in the sun (there are chairs, and beach chairs available, but had I known no lounge chairs were here, I would brought my own) like the photos from the listing depicted. There is also zero parking. We pulled a small cargo trailer and had our large SUV and parallel parked in front of the wall and locked gate of the house but was worried the whole time that we stuck out too far. Also, the propane grill works great, and was full of propane; however, there are zero grilling tools in the house to be found, so you might want to throw in a long spatula if you want to grill burgers. Also, might want to throw in a couple of extra rolls of toilet paper. When we arrived, both bathrooms had half rolls on them and by the end of the second day were running lowish as we could fund no extra in the house anywhere. I emailed Astrid about our concerns (as I was encouraged to) with zero response. I understand that it was the weekend leading up to semana santa, but we had to make a special trip to town just for tp. And if you're familiar at all with Playa Encanto, disregard the map provided on the listing. It's off by about 25 houses. That led us to some roaming around until we actually found the house.
We had a few minor grievances (the largest being the lack of toilet paper!) but overall, we had a ball and I would recommend this rental (with the above explanations) to anyone lookong for a nice comfotable rental in Play Encanto.
Great home, easy to deal with property managment. Wonderful experience. Thanks
I made sure I got good directions because it's out there...which we all loved. Quiet and pristine beach. Shelling excellent!! Saw whales swimming the first morning! The house was perfect size for our group of 7 which included a 3yo. Kitchen had everything we needed. Beds were comfy, big LR couch which was perfect for playing games at night. Wifi worked perfect. Big open courtyard in the front. Bring towels. Only 4 are supplied I was told when I requested more.
Only downfall was windows in 2 bedrooms don't open...while we were there one slider door quit opening too. Hopefully they will be repaired before the next group comes as the weather is beautiful.
I would def stay there again. Matthew was very receptive to my suggestions.
Property was beautiful and exceeded expectations - panoramic views from living room and back porch were breathtaking. Rental property staff was very helpful. Steps down to the sand and water. Would definitely rent again. They did have drinking water and towels available (unlike what was written in the VRBO property guide). Even had chips, salsa, and fresh tortillas waiting for our arrival.
Not related to the property owner, but advice for other travelers: don’t necessarily trust directions from Google Maps if you aren’t familiar with the area - we drove all the way to the Mayan Palace’s exit trying to find our turn for Playa Encanto. Definitely worth figuring out, though! Quiet, beautiful, relaxing beach vacation for our family of 4. Can’t wait to return.
Rocky Point / Puerto Penasco is on the famous and most diverse ocean in the world, the Sea of Cortez. This sea offers dolphins, wales, over 100 species of fish, sand dollars on the beach, and at our home is a protected estuary. Our home is 20 minutes from town where there is fresh seafood markets on the water, oyster co-ops, the famous Cedo outdoor animal museum, the most popular and famous resort - The Mayan Palace. There are hundreds of some of the best seafood and steak restaurants in town. Renting jet skis, fishing charters and 4-wheel drive quads are all available in town. There is 8 miles of undisturbed beach all along the Sea of Cortez where our house is located. There is also night life in town, as well as great shopping and savings on Mexican merchandise of all sorts.
