About Barry Cox
My name is Barry Cox. For 25 years Steve Butts was my best friend. We met in Aspen where he lived and I had a vacation home. In the early 90’s Steve left Aspen for Telluride speculating on its future and started Telluride Properties now the largest real estate company in Telluride. Steve loved the outdoors and took advantage of it everyday. He was an excellent and avid skier, sailor, scuba diver and spanned the globe golfing including the notorious St. Andrews course in Scotland. We spent many adventures and vacations together. Tragically and ironically in January 2005, he lost his life at the age of 48 to an avalanche while 2 groups from Aspen and Telluride were helicopter skiing in Canada. I was in the other group. For 16 years, Steve had skied the same outfit and run and had said that if he died he wanted it to be in Canada powder skiing with his friends on a run called Subaru Trees. And that’s what happened. Steve is one of the greatest person’s I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing.
Barry Cox purchased this House in 2005
Why Barry Cox chose Mountain Village
In 1997, Steve built a beautiful home early on in the development of Mt. Village. It’s situated on the 8th fairway with breath taking views of mountains and wilderness from every room (sprinkled with a few homes and ski runs now) in all directions. In August of 2005, a group of Steve’s friends started a memorial golf tournament in his name with proceeds going to the local youth’s ski team. Steve’s house was currently on the market furnished including the Porsche Cayenne. During the weekend someone mentioned that I should buy the house and keep it “in the family.” I was already staying there and the next morning I got up and started looking at every room and saying “this is a great house” tasteful furnishings, stereo system throughout, game room with pool table, outdoor spa, master steam shower & Jacuzzi, and a SUV!
What makes this House unique
The rest is history so to speak, as guests will notice there is a refrigerator outdoors with a plaque on it that says “This one’s for Hilby!” Apparently, Steve settled a commission to local realtor Steve Hilbert by keeping the refrigerator stocked with Coors beer forever! I maintain the tradition in Steve’s honor--along with an assortment of beer always in the outdoor fridge on the patio. So when you see the golf carts drive up and people get out and help themselves to a cold on,e you can bet they knew Steve Butt’s and still call him friend.

Perfect setting. Great house and even better views.
This was the 2nd time we've stayed at this house, and will be sure to do so again. The layout was perfect for our 3 families (10 people), where each family had plenty of privacy at night. The views are awesome, with the golf course creating an openness and unobstructed views. We've stayed in "ski-in/ski-out" Telluride homes before, but prefer the open spaces, views and privacy (and more reasonable cost). Owner is friendly and easy to work with. Can't wait to book again for next year.
Great place, Awesome View
My family and I stayed here while my wife and I were getting married in Telluride. Finding a place able to house 9 adults and 7 youngsters was a task this place handled easily with more than enough room to spare. Nobody was cramped, eating space was more than enough, and there was plenty of private space when someone wanted it. Barry is a great guy and made my family's trip to Telluride awesome.
Thanks Barry. Lauren and I are very grateful you helped make our dream wedding possible. You'll hear from us again.
Telluride in the Fall
Great house and good owner. Needed a few things fixed when we stayed, but overall a great location.
Sorry, but the hot tub was out of service for a few days
Law Firm Retreat
This is an amazing property and was perfect for our needs for a small law firm retreat. It is furnished and equipped with everything you need from the kitchen to the entertainment to the sporting equipment/games to the Porsche that is available to use. A little far from the Village Center, but well worth the commute. Thank you Barry!!!
