About Marion Bauer

We have lived live in Middlebury, VT since 1969. We chose this area because of its beauty, quality of life and proximity to Middlebury College. We raised a family here and they all look forward to returning to the Lake each summer for their vacation, introducing the next generation to all the Lake has to offer.

Marion Bauer purchased this cottage in 1975

Why Marion Bauer chose Salisbury

We chose this cottage on the eastern shore of Lake Dunmore because of its location. Views of the Lake are lovely. The sunsets are gorgeous. The water is clear and pure. Swimming and boating are excellent. The location is not isolated but not crowded either. The perfect balance to enjoy and refresh.

What makes this cottage unique

Our deck with its pergola offers relaxation with a nice blend of sun and shade. The open living area offers magnificent views even from inside the cottage. The water in the cottage comes from the lake. We drink bottled water but bathe and cook with tap water.

Beautiful sunsets on the lake

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a fun filled week with family and friends at "Waters Edge". After having stayed at the cottage several years ago, we were a bit apprehensive about the renovation. Would it change the character of the old camp feel? It did not! Well done. It's so bright and welcoming now. Entertaining was a delight. The deck is much more accessible . It was late in the season so we enjoyed the fireplace a couple of our mornings.

One suggestion I would make, as ,for us ,the deck was the most popular "room" of the cottage, perhaps you should prune back the cedar tree limbs a little or move the furniture out from under it as we all got pitch on our clothes and shoes.

A lovely vacation week. Hope we can visit again next summer!

Some Disappointment

  • 2 of 5

Amenities should have been updated for this time of year by the owner, and price reduced to reflect the lack thereof: The dock had been partially removed so we could not dock our boat or fish from the end of firewood available, no cable/satellite (TV removed) as listed and outside gas grill is rusted out and inoperable. Just be sure to verify with the owners any of the "amenities" that are of the most interest to you prior to renting! Other than that, we had a nice time with our Texas grandchildren.

Owner's Response: We are happy to accommodate guests with boats BUT they need to let us know they are bringing their boat. For the Spring and Fall guests, we provide electric baseboard heat which is an expense for which we make no additional charge. There is a lovely fireplace some guests choose to use and wood is easily purchased nearby. Our listing does not include TV but does include wireless internet(the password is clearly displayed) as well as a landline. It is a shame that a guest becomes ill and leaves early. Demanding a refund is most unusual and alas, has made them hypercritical even though, contrary to policy, a refund was made.

Perfection at the Lake!

  • 5 of 5

We were overwhelmed with the beautiful property! It was clean, comfortable and has the most amazing deck/pergola and view. Everything you could ever need is in the property - Marion was very responsive and left the place in pristine condition for our stay. She answered all my questions and gave us info for the area. Lake Dunmore is clean and just breathtaking. The best sunsets ever from the deck, great swimming and plenty of kayaks. The open concept of the downstairs gave the best views and was perfect for our family - tons and seating indoor and out. We will be back! Thanks, Marion!
